just as a quick answer to the title before watching the video; why wiuld it be the new meta exactly? becuz ppl lost theyr precious nanoweave? the resist shield was this good before, and the thing is nanoweave and adrenaline shield is still good...in the good situation like damn always. here is the thing if u put resist shield in the situation of the old adrenoweave it would be out perform simply becuz resist shield is meant for slower paced warfare. Also stop beeing lemings and folow the new trend just becuz u seen it on a stream or "this guy" told you it was stonk and all. play as u prefer to play, think on ur build and on what u doin, and i promise u everything would be ok. remember the goal of this game isnt to have a high KD but to capture objective. sometime those objective isnt a point to capture but a road or a armor collum, or just a flank route. (yes that is a short answer, u really want me to go full on on this subject? =-= )
I dont want to jinx it, but it sounds way healthier than what we had prior to it. If I sneek or fly up to a heavy and get the drop, the resist will kick in so late, that it might not save him. On the other hand, heavys are now better at what they are designed to do: clear or hold rooms, as they can prepare for these situations.
Yeah the design of the resist shield, and its requirement to be activated a lot sooner does allow for flanking to be rewarded by the classes that are meant to be embracing flanking a little more. Cheers for sharing some thoughts man.
Bionics is definitely great, but EMP nades will be your bane as usual. Atleast you can take bolters to the face without having to use medkits after each time.
I would argue that you should use Assimilate with Resist shield nearly 100% of the time if you aren't running Carapace. The instant 200 shield recovery and 10% ability recharge is practically made for the Resist shield moreso than the Adrenaline shield because your shields are being damaged 100% of the time. Resist Shield also frees up your armor slot for other things like ammo pouch or shield recharge. Mobility isn't too much of a problem if you're in a serious engagement or are indoors, the extra 35% resistance to headshots make up for slower strafe speeds.
Certainly a fair point for uptime, and would 100% agree in situations where you are taking up a more defensive situation. I still preferred the extra mobility for getting to and from positions, but it's certainly worth looking at trades as you need.
I didnt do the math yet, but I believe using Adrenaline shield instead of Resist shield will grant you more EHP after a kill. Best case scenario ofc would be getting a kill right after you start getting health damage.
why you say this? ". Resist Shield also frees up your armor slot for other things like ammo pouch or shield recharge" nanowave armor wouldn't stack with any other shield anyway
Resist shield is more catered to point holds, and methodical plays. Adrenaline shield is for the more agressive heavies that need to push into a flank or move the line up. And the Stock shield is for your more average engagements and can fit into many different types of engagements. Personally i think the Resist shield can be useful if you know what your doing and is great at holding objectives, but in cases where your just fighting small engagements throughout the facility, it may be better to equip the others. The resist shield's only weakness is not having the first shot advantage in fights you aren't expecting, so being taken by surprise by a light assault or being sniped from a place you didn't expect can hold it back.
Yeah in the environments that are slightly more chaotic, with more damage sources and less opportunity to isolate kills to keep the charge up on say Adren; then Resist is a good pick. In the situations of this video where I was holding a room or corridor was when I felt most effective with the shield. Cheers for sharing mate!
It might just be confirmation bias, but I do feel like I win a lot more of my 1v1s with resist shield. Maybe if I was a 50% hsr pro gamer I'd drop it for the adrenaline shield.
It certainly works better for certain playstyles; there are arguments for more efficient ways of playing and chaining kills but if it works better for you then that's what matters mate!
Nano weave, resist, it doesn't matter. Nothing can stand the might of CROSSBOW! Megadeth Symphony of destruction starts playing - You take a mortal man And put him in control Watch him become a God!!!
Resist Shield is better suited for more defensive HA's who prefer mid-range skirmishing and fire support. The kind of players that prefer to be on the second line with long range or high capacity crowd control LMGs. The Resist Shield's lack of downtime (especially when paired with ASC) is much better suited to defending against the sporadic chip damage taken when fighting at these ranges, and the resistance against headshots helps when bolters get tired of your shit. Adrenaline Shield will always be the better choice for aggressive CQC play, but the Resist Shield always had a place for less aggressive players.
Resist Shield + Nanomesh Specialist + Mobility Mesh is AWESOME! It does make you glow like a christmas tree but having an almost 100% uptime on resist, and being able to sprint around at near full speed is fantastic. Slap a laser sight on a minichaingun and you get some frankly astonishing mobility as you BRRRRRRRRRT. Edit: It's also a filthy loadout for countersniping if you use a heavy-hitting scout rifle like the Dragoon or HSR-1. Those infiltrators on the hillside forever away can't 1shot you with headshots, so long as you're at at least above 250 HP.
Absolute wonderful combo. I switched my 2 Adrenaweave classes to utilize RS/NS/MM instead. I also like switching out Mobility for Ocular on a more defensive loadout, while giving up NanoSpec for Ocular on more offensive ones. All 3 combos run great imo
Client side peekers advantage, linked with damage output linked to your ingame fps = I use RE to lower the benefit enemies with faster computers get on headshot streams against me. I have a decent gaming computer, but I like playing on long range and good looks so in zergs I get like 40fps in 60hz. Which totally looks nice and is more than playable, but in context of what mentioned. I do less damage over time so dampening the head shoot multiplier on people shooting at me is a must.
Just got back into PS2 with the new update and was screwing around in vr to see what new gear and implants had been added. Saw this exact setup and knew what needed to be done. Gonna take me a hot minute to get all the implants crafted and leveled, but I can feel the nastiness
TR chaingun set is with resist shield, asc, sidewinder and nanomesh specialist. Works well with jackhammer too. I've ran this setup long time ago, I can't stand adrenaline shield prior to forgetting to activate it again after getting a kill since it won't automatically kick back on. Also, imo, resist shield looks coolest.
I love resist shield and uses it for years. I recomend to use survivalist with it. The heal works while the shield is active. This saved me a few times already. And you dont neet Nanomesh Specialist, the default 15 sec is long enough most of the time.
Adrenaline not so much I would say, considering the kills directly reward you with more uptime and keep you going as you need. NMG is... yeah, I haven't run that thing in years for obvious reason.
If you have to go to Rube Goldberg levels to making resist shield even remotely competitive, then you don't really have a competitive option. Resist didn't become viable over night and the last 2 5% nerfs to it's mitigation because of the developer's inability to address problems with specific implants and instead choosing to degrade core game mechanics, really make it not very good. There's a lot of 2KD (and below) heavies jumping through mental hoops right now trying desperately to cope with a pretty laughably insignificant movement speed debuff and I'm really enjoying watching it.
Knew I would see you pop up in this video my man. It's definitely a fair point to raise; building a class entirely around an element of that class is probably going to be less effective than your more standard builds in some respects. I'll stand by my point that resist has become more beneficial to some builds with Nanoweave Armour no longer stacking with the NMG and Adrenaline Shield; it's less of a clear cut choice in turn. You know my stance on Nanoweave, I still think it should be removed. My role as a content creator for this game is to always test the waters and see what does/doesn't work. And the validity of this build post NPE update has, become a little more viable by comparison. As I say, it isn't the new go-to, it never will be for those who can chain kills together like a mad man. Cheers for sharing some thoughts man.
Yeah but you have to stay completely still in order to gain it. And as everyone know: every time a player in Planetside 2 stand still for more than 0.1 seconds, an enemy infiltrator got summoned behind him in order to take his life
@@deslow7411 kinda. but i thought more something like, an infiltrator standing on top of a mountain, 1 km away, that suddently sense your lack of movement and land a perfect headshot
I don't like dedicating two implants for one thing. Mobility Mesh and Survivalist works better with 150HP return as soon as you take green damage. ASC helps with 4 seconds, while Survivalist returns 1 second faster, returns 150 HP and helps you run with the shield on if its a big hit like a bulldog blast. Mobility Mesh is the other half where you get to abuse .5 ADAD-ADS guns. NS-15's, MG's etc. With this loadout I make it my excuse to run wild loadouts like C4 and ammo belt with thumper. My VS has Obelisk and Aux Shield, ASC, Bionics and Assimilate for one wild loadout.
For me it became impossible to play with nanowave. Im just too slow and easy to hit with it. And when it stacks with adrenoshield slowing... And also with nanowave now impossible to "climb" and as mobility reliant player im struggling to go oveer that. Changed it for ammo belt/shield capacitors.
I personally find Nanoweave pretty annoying to run now, but I will still run it on some builds; my Adrenaline Shield heavy still has it for as much EHP as possible. But on my LA and other classes I find myself running different stuff now. Still think Nanoweave should just be removed entirely.
Hasn't Resist always been meta? I was apparently wrong about it stacking with Nanoweave (making it even stronger) but it always felt like more Effective HP than the other shields (even though I really wanted Adrenaline to be good since it's a design that's more fun). Not only that, Resist inherently has better uptime (it's hard to run out of it, and if you have ~1 sec worth of it you basically have enough for an entire fight).
I usualy only play HA during point holds, so mobility isnt realy an issue. I actualy been using the resist shield way before the nerf to nanowave. Even before, it was better then the stock shield and easier to use and not so skill dependent as the adrenaline, so i always enjoyed it.
Resist has always been meta. Sure, NWA with adrenaline and assimilate was cool, but Resist was better against damage other than gunfire and has amazing synergy if you have a medic keeping heals active on you, not to mention greater uptime
Who pushed resist shield out of the meta ? Some veterans who decided what others to use. That ability should have been the default for a heavy and adrenaline should have been nerfed into the ground a long time ago. But high paying customers really wanted to make a 10 killstreak before reloading, so yeah. If you go against vehicles or in a point hold, you want resist shield. If you play CS, you use adrenaline + NWA. Nothing changed.
Wow, you're making the point why the old meta was not THAT meta. Again, nothing changed. Veterans forced other players to play an unsuitable build, while they could have been better as medics (almost always).
Look if it means I don't get 4 shot by a light assault hiding in a tree with his 70 round mag of stupid explosive crossbow bullshit when I'm playing on Hossin, sign me right the fuck up
ASP Battle Engineer. ASC, Survivalist, Infravision or Bionics. If you dont have any of those, Athlete, Assimilate work fine too. ASP Points in AR Access and Shotgun Secondary. This makes a very capable Engineer. I like to use NS-11P and a PA Shotgun. Anything in the utility slot works; Aux Shield, Baby Gates, C4, whatever you want. I also run a non ASP Battle Engie on my TR account since I havent ASP'd it yet. Same ASC, Survivalist and Infravision. Instead of an AR I use the Tomoe or the Tanto. I know people hate the Tanto but its a good accurate gun. Emissary with laser sight instead of shotgun so I can panic jump and hipfire. The fast shield recharge is great. Especially when people rush you thinking it is still down. Plus infinite ammo!
Cheers mate, playstyle depending this is true. Resist has just become... more of a choice in the first place that has merit by comparison to where it used to be.
Heavy assault was, is, and always will be the best class FOR DIRECT COMBAT. Its literally the only purpose of the class. What do you expect? To be able to play medic and own everyone in pure infantry combat? That's just dumb
What kind of math are you doing man? Are there some hidden modifiers I don't know about? Because 35% resistance just means you can take 35% more damage. 35% of 1000 is 350. So wouldn't the effective HP then be 1350? How on earth do you get 1538 HP?
The formula used to calculate EHP is 1000/(1 - Resist%). So it's 1000/(1 - .35), or 1000/.65 = 1538. Another good example of this formula is for Nanoweave, which provides 20% resistance vs small arms. So Nano's EHP is 1000/(1 - .2) = 1000/.8 = 1250.
@@Erendil1453 huh that's an odd way the devs chose to run the calculations. But good to know, then the resist shield is a lot better than I thought. Thanks for the info.
Kai I don't say this to be mean, but did you happen to hear my conclusions at the end of the video? I state that Adrenaline shield is still the slot I run more often because as a player who can chain kills, and perform well, I'll still run that as it's still more effective for that style of play. The point of this video is to explore options, it's my role as a content creator for this game. And post changes to Nanoweave, and more importantly, the fact that Nanoweave's resistances no longer stack with NMG/Adren, the resist shield's EHP is now on par with the other shields, and even protects you against more threats by comparison. It's not to say it's my go to, all I am saying is that it is an option.
I have never gotten into Heavy Assault since I find it's design to be retarded (Give the launchers and biggest guns to the class with shields, good idea!! XDXXXXXDFDDXDXD) and refuse to use it due to that. I thought all shields worked like Resistance Shield, and have used them as such... The explanations for so many of the abilities in PS2 lack so many nuances and important bits that it's easy to misunderstand them...

UA-cam members get early access to the videos before they go public
Yea, heavy chads... I've been light assault main, and after crossbow update I've ascebded
if oyur worst player you can pick anything, if your good, you have no alternative for adrenaline and assimilate.
props on keeping the teabag
2:38 ok boyz find me that tea bagger and destroy his pride, teabag him in mass. he must pay =-=
Lol, i should try this since i'm just an okay/sub par HA and struggle with consistent headshots
Now we need a non heavy meta , yeeee
Been ruining a version of this with Adv Shield Cap and Aux Shield convinced with bionics for a few months now. It changed the way I see HA
Nice video. Adrenaline shield in 99% of fights is way too much better than Resist.
Cheers mate, playstyle depending this is true. Resist has just become... more of a choice in the first place that has merit by comparison to where it used to be.
Engineer best class
Wait, you have a SAW + a jack hammer ?! 😍
its been 7 years....
Bold claims my friend ;)
@@CAMIKAZE78 unless i missed a meta change, that was when resist was last seen as meta
Now how about equipping no shield? :P
Doesn't this assume Heavy Assualt is still the best class now that their meta build was nerfed?
Heavy assault was, is, and always will be the best class FOR DIRECT COMBAT. Its literally the only purpose of the class. What do you expect? To be able to play medic and own everyone in pure infantry combat? That's just dumb
@@szap1337 Works for other games. Makes vehicle play more fun and easier to balance too, when you don't have to face an army of rocket launchers.
@@mattevans4377 lol rocket launchers aren't a danger. A annoyance at the best of times.
If you are trying to 1v12 in a HESH MBT, you need a new plan.
Haha, gotta save up for new parts looking at this gameplay and comparing it to mine performance wise just made me sad 😂
All I learned is that AlexTheAligattor is a PoS.
So basically, the Resist Shield is like a 2nd chance from a critical hit/explosive. Nice but you have to be THAT GUY being aggro as hell huh?
u run faster with shield than me without shield, what speedperks or hacks are u using?
SHUT UP, KEEP IT A SECRET. STOP TELLING EVERYONE. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
it still gives less ehp to body compared to nanoweave + adrenaline
a comment for the almighty algorithm !!
So now the real question: WTF is YaHch-P?
Cloak is Meta
Damm, awsome content, thx!
Just here to say that I read the thumbnail as "racist is meta" and was heavily confused
ngl i misread this as "racist shield meta"
Resistnance.
Kills 100 people dies top one guy then gets tea bagged seems about right.
Dude at 2:35, really? Really?
2:35 stream sniper? lmao
Am I the only one who jus ran symbiote?
it is
Nice
What is this bad logic? Nanoweave receives a 10% speed nerf so you switch to a shield that is constantly up and making you 25% slower?
Also because nanoweave no longer stacks with the heavy shields.
Haven’t watched the video entirely yet but i can see him using the implant which reduces the speed penalty of overshields.
@@nonleleh Which only reduces it by 10%, you're still spending more time moving slower than if you just stuck with adrenoweave.
@@anuvratvr That's a minor nerf to adrenaline but resist is still terrible so why would you switch to it?
Using the term "meta" is known to cause adverse reactions. Please stop ruining gaming with meta. 😂
No, resist shield is useless.
