    I looked at the Sony AX700 recently when I needed to upgrade to a 4K camcorder. It's got great specs but sadly its maximum framerate at 4K is just 30FPS. I shoot a lot of video which has rapid movement, regular pans and such. 30FPS either looks like mud (if you use 180 degree shutter) or becomes very staccato (strobey) if you run the higher shutter speed needed to do effective stabilization in post. I settled on the Panasonic HC-X1500 (which will do 60FPS at 4K) and I'm more than happy with it.
    If I was making movies I'd opt for the AX700 but I'm not so the Panasonic is better suited to *my* needs. Note that I didn't even consider a mirrorless camera for the upgrade to 4K for all the reasons you mentioned as to why camcorders are superior in some cases :-)

    • @TapCat

      @@flickdavidsadventures366 Movies are usually shot at 24 frames per second and his one major complaint with the AX700 was that it couldn't do more than 30. So, for movies it's a non-issue and he would have been happy to have it.

      That moment when you rely on equipment so much you need better camera to automate even more shit to make acceptable results, LOL

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 2 роки тому

      @@BoothTheGrey
      Actually if its professionals we talk about you have deceivable image of them, if we talk TV and journalists, they just use whatever they have at hand, its too expensive to keep buying new equipment every 10 years, so they often use stuff thats several years old, I have worked in TV news station that broadcasts in 4k, and we had to use cameras from 15 years ago shooting in 1080i with miniDV cassettes.
      Also scientists will never use cameras with automatic settings LOL, they will need to be able to reproduce whatever they are documenting, so the settings has to be manual with a camera that produces the LEAST amount of variables, consumer tech wont do that for you, thats why scientific equipment is made.
      Cameras that you usually plug into computers.
      You are essentially just defending blind folded consumerism, you do not need 4k or 180 fps in a camera if you gonna film a few kids running around kicking a ball in the field.
      You do not need 4k to become successful on UA-cam, specifications, wont make you win any awards here, you honestly think Hollywood cares about specs? LOL
      Its always whats behind the camera, that matters.
      A lot of those award winning nature documentaries from BBC, were shoot on telelenses, macro lenses and a 1000 dollar camera which did not film in 4k.
      Shooting in flat profiles or RAW video, yeah its good if you do work that needs it, but your UA-cam video or family video, does not give a flying shit about that, people today, have no patience, no time, its all gotta happen NOW, thats why, YOU want to buy expensive camera, so you wont have to learn how to expose correctly.
      This is why we have so many car accidents, because people are too stupid and lazy to learn how to drive properly, they are impatient, and impatience leads to early death.

    • @SMGJohn
      @SMGJohn 2 роки тому +1

      @Tony McGurk
      Exactly, its as you say, people cannot really tell what camera is used, they care only that the image is clear enough and lighting is good and that the audio is top notch, otherwise it might as well be shot on a 50 bucks 1080i DV camcorder from 2007.
      It is ironic to me that some of the most successful UA-camrs use subpar equipment that cost less than 1000 dollars.
      Its always the content that matters the most, and Hollywood actually do not use as expensive cameras as people think they do, there is a lot of cheap 500 dollar cameras used as B-camera (secondary cameras) to film stuff in which their large cinema cameras cannot fit, and I am pretty sure very few notices when they use clips filmed by such cheap cameras, they literally used GoPro cameras during production of latest Marvel movies LOL.
      It is a shame, we live in a world were no one has patience anymore, its all gotta happen now or never.

The ability for me to go through and make a good choice within my budget , seeing the actual video shots and focusing speeds was great. Really valuable. Not many people have the ability to do what you did with the variety, let alone be so generous with the information. Thank you again. Definitely a smaller Sony seems to be the best choice for me. Great video. Usually I reach for my "bridge camera", the Panasonic Lumix FZ300 for the same reasons that the camcorders work so well. It has a fast Leica lens with a lot of zoom paired with a small sensor. It works great as a travel camera too... with one exception, which is probably why you don't have it... it's pretty large. It's a great camera though. Even though I have a lot of "better" cameras, the FZ300 is the most fun (and easy) to use.

    First time I comment on Markus Pix's videos :
    I love how honest he is in every analyze of every cameras and camcorders he shows. He doesn't tell you "Oh this one is the most expensive and the latest, so it's the best". He even underlines the pro's of very affordable products instead of focusing on the con's. This is genuinely what every beginner and intermediate users want to see.

    hey @MarkusPix: "Freitag ist Freu-Tag, Freitag ist Fix-und-Foxi Tag": I can see you got a few issues of that cartoon there ;) @10:39 and @11:42. I just remember the old German TV commercials from the 70s, never bought the actual cartoons though. Just brings back some memories regardless ;)
    Also, you sure haven't got "Omas Haus" but your very own there -- gute Arbeit, mein Herr...!!

    I love love love my SONY AX700. For my videos it spends most of its time on a tripod so I don't mind the weight. When I do shoot hand held its got impressive stabilization. The auto focus is next level good and that big 28 to 398 Zeiss lens gives me all the range I need. Its fantastic in AUTO but has all the manual control I need for the times I need it. Super easy and fast to dial in the white balance. Just enough DOF to give a good look for the style of videos I make without making them look too "VLOGY". I like that it shoots a little flat because like you said it helps get better dynamic range and its very easy to get that range in post. This was a really good round up and very well explained and put together. Plus you have great energy, SUBBED for sure.

    Thank you for you evaluation. Last summer in Nevada with 100+degree days every day, I became frustrated with the heat generated auto shutoff on my G7X and the SONY action cam. Could not even make it half way through Red Rock Canyon before both cameras shut off. I will be looking at a 4K SONY Handycam as a backup. Great video.

    I have a DSLR, i never used it on a whim for video. My instant reflex for video is my phone, my instant reflex for pictures is my camera. I never shot with a camcorder though.. I blame smart phones for that. Great vid as always!

    Your a really bright guy. Keeping any of the specs of one camera in my head is hard enough, bouncing around all these cameras would leave me a fetal position mumbling to myself. Great job. I was about to buy an M50 but now I am looking at the better camcorders. The heating up would be a concern for me.

    I got the Panasonic HC-X2000 (the unit above X1500) and as someone else said it's because it does 50p and 60p.. I would of loved the Sony AX700 too but its best is only 30p and that just isn't the best for motion. as for the hard to find auto switch (dude its clear on the left side back of the unit to make it super easy to find) but yer great video as always. You are a man with all the gear :)

    Something I think that would be interesting to see a review of is wind cut, as a rule I use a plug in mic but there are times when I won’t to do a bit of unplanned video and all I have is the basic camera or camcorder with me, also some have no mic Jack, so all you have is the inbuilt mic. I would say the test needs some minimum video level, say 1080p at 25/24 frames. I would also suggest a check on suitable improvised muffler, I some use a cutdown patch from a muffler with a couple of elastic bands. Anyway keep up the good work.

    Thank you very much for your videos, including this one, the best one for me the "idiot proof" user type, that doesn't care about settings, just takes the camera and starts to film.
    Your video helped me a lot, I mean a lot.

    great vid Markus.... kinda wished you had a bright to darkened area in the shots so we could see how each deals with over exposure then into low light and how much gain the cam uses in auto... that's where the camcorder can have a big advantage.... if you're doing set shots or dolly work the the dslr may be a better option.

    Such a great video Markus. I have a Sony AX53 camcorder and I love it. The stabilization is awesome and so is the massive zoom. I can get all kinds of shots with it and I can get great bokeh if I just zoom in on the subject.

    GoPro only records for like an hour or less with that battery it has. It also can fail and corrupt files as well, and I am sure it will overheat if you happen to keep it going for over an hour.
