I brought all my donations to my local library which has a maker space that includes a sewing studio. I can tell many items I gave will be valued there. I only wish I had more good fabric to donate. Most of what they had looked like old curtains and store fabric samples. Visiting this maker space made me realize that I’d like to lead some sewing sessions to help others fall in love with quilting.

I turned 74 this month as well! I go a little slower than in the past but remain healthy and active. I am trying very hard to get down to essentials and things I really want to keep in my home as I do not want to leave a mess for my children when I pass. Quilting is joyful to me, my faith gives me purpose and peace, and my family and friends keep me active. As a widow, I could be bereft but I am trying to count my blessings.

Thank you, Karen, for walking us through this decluttering challenge. I am slowly going through fabrics still, having hurt my back in the middle and not being able to work at my usual pace. However, I find I now have the courage to donate (or even just trash) some fabrics that were given to me or that I purely dislike and don't use. I feel so much better about the state of my sewing room and look forward to a year with less mental and physical clutter. Bless you ❤

I have LOVED this challenge!! I’m still working my way through all the challenges, but I can see progress. I have been putting this off for YEARS. This is the year to really dig in. Thank you so much for making me “think” about all the quilting things I own. And some I don’t NEED to own any longer. It is the best feeling to be able to just let go of things that no longer interest me or that I know I will never, EVER complete. My timer is my new BFF🙌🙌. And I HATE when I forget to set it. I will go through all of the steps again in another few months, and will see even MORE progress then. Thank you so much for hosting these Declutter Challenges. Looking forward to doing it again in a few months, and NEXT YEAR. WooHoo for a less cluttered creative space!!

Thank you Karen for another great challenge. I especially appreciate the advice that I can work on a project that I WANT to finish. I was able to set aside a baby quilt (baby is due in 4 months) and return to a lap quilt for ME that I had to set aside in Dec 2022 when my mother died. 2023 saw 3 more family members pass away and I have been involved with legal issues for 2 estates. I can now get back into my decluttered sewing room and work on something that brings me joy and peace. Thanks again Karen for all you share with us. Take care!

At least 20 yards of fabric is being donated, most of it given to me by others. Since I retired in July, I don’t need fabric to sew work appropriate clothing which then that also cleared out patterns for work clothing! An avalanche left the building! Now I am looking for a charity for two sewing machines that I’d like to donate to help refugees in the Detroit area.
Thanks for your hard work and moral support through this process. Stay warm!

Thank you Karen for year four of another great declutter challenge. I think this year is my best as far as my fabric storage goes. I took it all out of the containers and now I can see every piece I own. This is the absolute best group I have joined. Thanks to you and your great team for making it a pleasant experience. All the members of this group are so supportive of each other, no snide comments or put downs, no QUILT POLICE! I will miss your daily chats, but will continue using all your advice for a pleasant year of sewing. Again, thanks to you and your wonderful team.

I had to do my challenge a little differently and in my time frame, but I did it. I actually did put my donations in the back of my vehicle, but only shortly before I made a plan of a day of running errands, and first stop that day was the thrift store. I had to make 2 trips. Not so much because of the amount but because I had to break up certain tasks and I don't have a good place in our apartment to keep bags/boxes sitting without getting in the way.
Anyhow, thanks for the reminders, the encouragement and ideas. I forgot about this challenge and started on my own right before the new year, but then your videos came out and I followed along. I'm excited to reclaim my sewing room and need to be stricter about what comes in more than anything

Your Declutter Challenge has really helped me focus as I sort out my sewing room and the multitudes of fabric and other things I have accumulated over the last 30+ years. I usually find it very difficult to get rid of things as I always see a possible use in them but I have been determined in my endeavours and have let go of quite a bit. I think I am what is termed an ‘aspirational hoarder’. I save things because I think of what I can turn it into, or it involves a new craft I want to try. However, I only have one lifetime so I have limited myself to only keep what I enjoy doing the most, patchwork quilts, bag, and clothes making. I let go of everything else which has freed up my space so my supplies are more easily accessible. I am still making my way through my scraps but I can now see what I have along with how much I have. Thank you for helping me to finally face this task and succeed at it. I am going to use the same principals to tackle other rooms in my house. ❤❤

TY, Karen. This was my third year, and I am feeling ready w an ambitious 2024 sewing plan. I had saved boxes for this project and had also stored fabric in others. Karen, thank you for a great challenge. This is my first challenge and I have a lot to declutter and organize. You are an inspiration. After a 2 week trip to visit with my mother, I am going to continue this challenge. You don't go through 20 years of collecting easily. I am hoping that when I am done, I will be able to find the things that I am always looking for. Have a place for everything and everything in it's place. For too long I have piled and stashed fabrics and projects in every nook and crany that I can. No more. I am the type of person who needs to see what I have. Clear containers only for me from now on. I have also made a list (inventory) of the projects that I have started or planned. I will be working through these this year in (hopefully) a clean and organized sewing room. Without this challenge I would have been too overwhelmed to even start. I love the way that you broke down each category. It made it doable. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have done this for about three years now, and I am interested to see how things I felt I needed to keep three years ago now seem less important and it's easier to make a decision to get rid of them. Seeing how some things never move from their place gives the perspective to act. My sister-in-law learned I was decluttering and remarked, "You do that every year." I realize that at least an annual trip through my studio is rewarding, redeeming and relaxing. Thanks for helping me to just get it done and for your comments that often help me see things through a new lens.

Thank you Karen, this was a tremendous boot in the tushie. All the moving boxes are empty! And it only took 6 1/2 years. My desk top is still a disaster, I have some plastic boxes that I’m too short to put away. I found 6 UFOs to finish. I don’t know where I’m going to put the ones I’m not working on. They’re all in baggies in the middle of the floor with the before said boxes. Alright I’m really far from finished. But my husband is happy to walk down the hallway without shimmying past the large moving boxes that I put there when I started this.

Thank you for the time you've put into organizing the sewing room declutter challenge. I am not a quilter, but this is my second year doing the challenge. This year was easier because I decluttered so much last year. I have found that most of the daily challenges are easily transferred to garment making as well as quilting.
When we got to kits, I thought it would be a "free" day for me, because I don't put together fabric, pattern and notions until I'm ready to start a project. I forgot that I have one kit, all the fabrics for a flannel rag quilt that I got from my mother quite awhile ago. I remember how I loved the red and green winter scenes with cardinals, and I was all ready to commit to a time this year when I'll finally make it. Well, today I brought the box Mom had given me upstairs. I was excited to pull out the beautiful fabric and ... it was not what I remembered. at. all. No red birds, no pine boughs. More like Edwardian scenes of people shopping and skating. I didn't love it, and I was disappointed. I have no idea what happened, or why she had given me different fabric than what I fell in love with. But my decision was easy. I do not want to make this quilt. I took photos of the fabric and posted on the Quilter's Corner at PatternReview.com asking for advice: how do I figure out what size quilt this kit will make? How do I arrive at a fair price for the ~16 yards of coordinating fabric?
I didn't get much sewing done during this challenge, but I'm fired up and ready to go with my winter sewing plans. My sewing room is even easier to work in and I feel confident that I will be doing the sewing that I want to do this year. Thanks again.

Thank you for guiding us all on this journey. Even though I only did a few of the challenges for various reasons, my sewing space is much cleaner and more usable. Fabric is organized, old thread has been trashed, tools are in their rightful places, and the spare parts to the machine we got rid of a decade ago are finally gone (they don't fit my current machine so I don't know why they hung around for so long). It's such a joy to go in there now that it's really inspired my sewing: in three weeks I've finished a month-old WIP, made seven (seven!!) projects start to finish, am about a third of the way done on the first Christmas gift for 2024, and have several items in my queue (as opposed to my usual vague "Well, I wanna make something but I don't know what" fog). Not only is it a relief having some of that clutter tamed, I feel good knowing that I can always go through the playlist for inspiration if it starts to build up again. Thank you again, and I know you're going to hit 400K subscribers in next to no time 🙂

Hello from Niagara Falls, NY! 🪡This challenge was wonderful! Although I've been sewing for years I've just started to be interested in quilting. My sisters have encouraged me and shared their "scrappy bins" with me which enabled me to make my first lap quilt. Your challenge encouraged me to go through patterns, fabrics, etc and seriously declutter and organize everything. I am so glad I found your channel and will continue to visit.🪡

Karen - wonderful challenge as always. FYI, the plastic boxes you are using are 12x12 Iris Scrapbook storage boxes. They're also referred to as Simply Tidy by Michaels now. Joann's sells them online as Top Notch. They're also sold by Hobby Lobby, Office Depot, and Amazon. Iris USA also makes what they call a "6 drawer storage cart" which is a rolling cart with six of those boxes on it. You might like that for storing the bins under that counter.

Thank you Karen for this fourth year of helping us take back control of our sewing rooms! I find each year a bit easier to do and much less stressful! I allow myself to go easier on some tasks vs others. I now try to keep on top of your suggestions during the year and always discover a challenge that somehow got away from me somehow that needs more attention. Todays suggestion about our boxes will come in handy since I also love this plastic boxes from Michaels to store my projects in. However, once the project if completed, I tend to forget to dismantle the fabrics back into my stash. That’s my project today. Thanks again Karen and I can see you hitting the big 400000 soon.❤❤❤

Thanks so much for this challenge Karen.
This was my 2nd year and I discovered so much more about myself and my sewing style and love.
I am a few days behind, but aiming to finish up this week.
    Thanks again.

TY! This was really helpful. My room and my closet are clean, decluttered and organized. Each day it is much easier to leave it that way and come back to my space the next day which is ready for me to just quilt. Makes everything so much more enjoyable. TY , again.

Karen, thanks for another Declutter Challenge. This was my third year and I surprised myself by some of the things I am letting go. It is less than years before, but it is another layer peeled back. I still need to finish with my yardage but I am in much better shape to enjoy my sewing room in the months ahead. Thanks for all of the generous help and support that you provide.

Since moving three years ago, I didn’t think I had that much to declutter. Haha! I was able to eliminate some emotional projects I had been hanging onto and half my patterns! Although I chased a squirrel, my 2 1/2 “ strip drawer is empty and that feels so good! Donations are going to the guild. Thanks for the hand up to work on this.

This is my third year joining your declutter challenge and it has been a great experience once again. This year I decided my work space in my sewing room needed an update, so as I decluttered, I also made some minor adjustments and am enjoying my space much more. Thank you Karen for doing this once again!

I too would like to echo the many thank you’s here! This is my 3rd year of this challenge and by far the easiest. It was most gratifying to look at my list of UFO’s from last year and realize that I had completed them all (9) but one small panel which is only a practice panel for free motion quilting…back on this years list! Thank you Karen for all you give to the quilting community! Your generosity is inspirational!

Karen, I have seen these videos for several years. This year I participated, and it was such a great experience! Your guidance thru the process has made it possible to start a daunting challenge and actually make noticeable progress. I have sold over $500 worth of things online that have been taking up space for years! It isn't done yet, but I feel like I can continue and finish eventually. You are a genius!! THANK YOU!!

Thank you so much, Karen, for this challenge. Not only have I got rid of a fair bit of stuff that was mentally weighing on me, I've also gained some much-needed space, my storage and sewing areas are both tidier (still need work!!), I'm rethinking how I store stuff - but the biggest gain is getting my sewjo and inspiration back. During the challenge I've made quite a few things that I had no firm plan on doing, things that have used up scraps and notions, and will be useful items for storage and just being able to put my hands on stuff more readily. Lastly - I feel so much more confident about my sewing skills, and where and how to improve. The videos and the group have been an absolute joy. Thank you for enhancing January and giving us support and inspiration. Onwards! xxx

Thank you once again Karen for helping me get my creative space organized and freeing that creative spirit. Processing my scraps has led me down a rabbit hole and I discovered kawandi. A whole different type of quilting experience. Really hard to adapt to this almost spiritual creative project.

Thank you, Karen, for making this declutter challenge available for us all. This is my third year and I still find things to do or improve in my sewing room. This year the best advice (for me) was deconstructing kits and returning them to stash. What a relief!! It felt so good to have that out of my closet and onto my shelves where I could see that fabric.

Hi Karen. I have enjoyed this years declutter challenge even more than last years. I'm going to take out all of my UFO's, make a list of them, and complete one per month. I don't have that many really. I am also going to start one new project per month and get it finished before I start the next one. Thank You for all of your hard work! So whatcha gonna make post declutter? Many Hugs! ~~ Lynne

Thank you so much Karen for making this process fun & challenging! I recently moved & if I hadn't done the challenge last year I never would've survived the move. I got a little behind this year because my granddaughter that I have 5 days aweek while my daughter works had covid & RSV at the same time. She was very sick, thankfully she made a full recovery! So I'll work on the days that I missed & finish strong. Thank you again 💓 Happy Sewing ♥️ 🧵 🪡
