It's kinda funny that most people seem to be this way. I usually prefere 100% no glitch runs, since at least in my mind its more skillfull to know how the game works instead of just learning like 20 tricks to complete a game in under 10 minutes.
@@MegaMacX that's a respectable outlook, but do keep in mind that a couple of the top hello neighbor runners have played quite a lot of the game and therefore know some stuff (not saying that your knowledge is anything less).
If TerminalMontage or someone animated this speedrun I bet they would show the protagonist using the TV and other objects to smash thro doors. The jumping on a basketball skip would also be fun to see
I actually did something similar to the act 2 glitch on complete accident when I was playing a while back. I was running from the neighbor outside with a bear trap in my hand, and I knew I wouldn't be able to turn around to place the item without getting caught, so in a bid of desperation I decided to look directly down at the ground and try placing it as I was running, hoping I would go over it and it would catch the neighbor. Instead, I was launched sky high with enough hangtime to go from in front of the door to the escape trampoline with time to spare. IIRC, I was also running _in the opposite direction_ at that moment, so I had enough time to realize what happened and course correct.
yeah, i remember in the switch version where your fenced in, i could manage to sit on the white overhang in the right spot and ride the hitbox of the tomatoes he threw
One time I was playing Act 2, I was standing outside on his house and I had put my controller down to keep reading the tutorial on how to beat the act on my phone. Suddenly I was launched into the air and triggered the end of Act 2 cutscene 😅 skipped the act without even trying
as someone who play games on 30 fps i find it interesting how when you set hello neighbor 1 to 200 fps the train from act 3 goes faster but when it's 30 fps it's slow really interesting that this also effects bugs like 0:56
I personally feel like learning atleast a few speed running tricks in your favorite games is really good and actually useful. Especially in games like borderlands 3 where you "hurry up and wait" all the time due to the dialog stopping you from progressing very fast. While in other games like portal 1 & 2 you can use glitches and exploits to not only get the rooms done faster but experience a new way of completing the objectives. It also helps the fatigue of games that *have* replay potential but have parts you really didn't enjoy- allowing you to get through them faster or in some cases outright *SKIP* entire sections to get back to having your fun. Glitches can also just be fun in their own right, like the backwards accelerated b-hopping in source games like half life and portal ❤❤❤
All this talk of lag abuse makes me want to design a game intentionally around it. I’ve seen games where the player loading save files is integrated into the lore, and games where you can walk onto the UI elements and move the numbers around to warp around the levels or get infinite lives. But I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a title where you have to learn enemy attack patterns to avoid damage by forcing the game to skip the frames where the hitboxes are active.
That sounds like if Doki Doki Literature Club's mechanics were kinda mashed up with Undertale's mechanics, with an under current of an intentional used of bad elements in, like, Hello Neighbor and Garten of Banban. It sounds really fun to interact with, and I would certainly look forward to the eventual Game Theory video on such a game.
4:44 if you have an item when you get to the door, jump then throw it under you as it will kill you and send you to the next act without having to get caught by the neighbor
Quick update on HN - The two top speedrunners, Menzo and Tomy, were both caught and admitted to cheating nearly every record run they had. This puts the lag abuse record in an awkward spot as on the leaderboard it shows a 5:33 by SpoonyGD as the world record, but technically it is a deleted 5:20 by the German runner who’s name you can’t say.
I dont think they should have separated "lag abuse" and "no lag abuse", this is the most laggy and unpolished game I know, just opening the game is already lag abuse
5:20 if you look through the peep hole while the door is being unlocked you can see a cardboard cutout of (what we can assume is) the neigbors son showing that he is unlocking the door for you
@@TetraBitGaming Got it, the run was insane and used an extremly hard strat in finale saving around 15s, (run is a 5:07) Excited to see the next vid on hn speedrunning (if you ever do another one)

I don't even understand why they would do such a thing like that for a game that released in 2017. Unless there's a genuine reason to such as developer information left over. It seems like they just want to take it down to ruin the fun

The way speedrunners break the game just to finish a game quicker amazes me lmao (Goated video as always)

THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT SPEEDRUNNERS DO??
@madbanana22 the 20 tricks thing? yeah i agree, but that wasn't the true focus of what we were talking about

A game being broken by lag & easily clipping through objects? What game would ever *breach* that kind of broken?
Every game, according to Backseat.
But yeah, still Security Breach
Why are you guys talking a security breach?
@Jelly_shy_guy_man idk they’re the one who mentioned it
Yeah, that game would have to not have a lot of *security* to be able to do stuff like that.
you didn't yet see the fazballs strat
Wait that’s nuts they are completing the game faster than some PCs can load the game.
That's true 😂

That's gotta be some real spaghetti code if you can manipulate and abuse the lag for speedrunning purposes, jesus christ
