Joey just has really bad taste. Bocchi music is way better than K-On.
Why doesn’t Connor just watch Welcome to the NHK? That’s like exactly what he wants Mushoku tensei to be. No Isekai, just a terrible shut-in trying to become a real person.
NHK is so good
Yeah. A huge part of why Mushoku ended up being an isekai is because the author wanted to meet where a lot of the flawed were. The boom in isekai escapism was based on the central premise that they would be based chads if only they had the chance to be reincarnated into another world, and Mushoku tensei just straight up shows how, no, you'd still be the way you are but you have a chance to better by doing the same things that you can do in our own world here and now.
This point flies over the heads of people like it's a stealth bomber.
To me it feels like such a non-argument to ask why it has to be in isekai form if the story is about a person bettering himself. It's just the packaging of the narrative. It doesn't reduce or subtract from the core narrative in any way and usually it's the people who just have a problem with MT for its more controversial moments who seem to have an issue with it being isekai.
@@OnchiBon Funny enough Conner has the same issue with Oshi No ko
Can someone try to explain to me why Welcome to the NHK is so good? It's SO bad, like incredibly frustrating bad. A K-On clone…….what in the fuck Joey?! This man didn’t even watch the whole show if that’s really how he felt about it. Bocchi runs circles around K-On. Even disregarding all the character, story, and music differences. The animation in Bocchi was fucking off the chain. Some of THE MOST creative work I’ve ever seen in the field. It was clearly a labor of love from the staff. Joey once again proves he’s a pleb. Now I know JJK is probably going to win because of Connor, so I’m not going to be upset at Bocchi losing here, but I’m glad it made it onto this bracket.
Also, people with seriously bad anxiety exist, and it’s a comedy anime so of course they’re going to exagerate Bocchi’s issues for comedic effect.
Joey Hold K-On to high of regard. So anything not outright praising it is slander in his eyes.
@@nintendofreak768 I love K-On too, it was one of the first 20 anime I’ve ever watched, but I don’t wear rose-tinted glasses. That show was a product of it’s time, and while it’s aged fine enough for the people who like those kinds of shows (slice of life,) it really is pretty standard.

Bro is an extrovert trying to tell introverts how they should behave
Who?
@@deathlydashi I think they're talking about Joey
If referring to the whole Bocchi the Rock thing, while I've not seen the anime, it seems she might be an introvert but more accurately, she has severe social anxiety and they're not the same. I am an introvert, I am happy with my own company and don't really yearn for the company of others, though maybe in the future I might like to try having friends. I'm not against socializing, but I'm very content to be by myself. Social anxiety is someone who wants to make friends or socialize but it brings on extreme panic. The two can have some over-lap and share a Vinn Diagram, but they're not the same thing.
I say this because I'm admittedly quite tired of people mixing them up. Introversion is being seen the same as social anxiety and it's not. I kind of feel like I'm always on clean up duty when speaking to extroverts and having to course-correct because when I say I'm an introvert, the reaction is imemdiately negative. Forgive me, those with social anxiety, that will have to be your battle to speak on and explain since I've not walked in those shoes, but I'm going to at least try to set the record straight for us introverts 😅
I saw an animated short here on UA-cam not too long ago that I seriously wish I could find again because it explains it so perfectly, of a character living on their own in the woods, not because they hate people or people make them nervous or anxious, but because it's what brings them joy. The character is single and maybe one day they'll have a partner but likely no kids, and that's also not due to hating kids, it's just not what they want for their life. I felt like the animator got the "assignment" and did a beautiful job of representing "us".😂 There's plenty of content about social anxiety but not enough on just being an introvert. We're not as represented because we're always inaccurately depicted/labeled.
Thanks for coming to my TED Talk 😂
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley"you "might like to try having friends" don't worry you will it will be tough you might get hurt in all honesty you probably will get hurt but you'll like it and it'll be worth it to have true friends

Garnt: "You've seen musicians who are stage frightened at first but then shred it up on stage!"
Joey immediately forgets Garnt's battle of the bands story
Joey: "Nah"
That's my only problem with Joey's criticisms of Bocchi. Half his criticisms are that this thing that happens in Bocchi would never happen in real life when it happens all the time in real life. He's allowed to dislike or hate the show but I would rather he didn't discredit that people are different from him and have different experiences than him. My social anxiety has always affected me and I relate to pretty much everything in the show to a lesser extent, having said that I recognise my social anxiety has never been that bad compared to some others. so if my 'not that bad anxiety' can mostly relate to Bocchi, then someone whose anxiety is that bad would be as bad as Bocchi.
It’s also funny that he brings up Carlos Santana. One of his most famous and breakout performances was at Woodstock when he wasn’t even suppose to play. He took acid since he was told he wasn’t going to play but then the person who was playing backed out. He then had to get on stage tripping and incredibly nervous. He went up on stage and killed it, the rest is history
@@elmatador2139 tbf, joey in general is dismissive of experiences outside his own.
Joey has yet to hit 30 and is already becoming senile 💀
The takes "You expect me to believe that shit would actually happen though? and "K-ON is the development of all the characters coming together after their differences and trying to create a band. Is exactly the same. Except K-ON the characters aren't insufferable like Bocchi are" I really don't understand Joey at all. I'm in the same boat as Garnt here where to me K-ON didn't do it and Bocchi is the K-ON done right.
Joey can dislike Bocchi but I can't understand how he likes K-ON and argues theses things on Bocchi. Characters in K-ON don't have differences they have to overcome in order to create a band, they are just brought to the club and just eat sweets and drink tea. They do that so much to the point where I wonder when they practice to even be able to perform. Specially when Yui is kinda just forced into it when she didn't even played an instrument. And characters not being insufferable I don't get it since K-ON has Yui, which calling her an air head is a complement since her head has vacuum of space on it. And worse she infects other characters with her lack of brain cells. "that would never happen" yeah Joey because people using the money from sold guitars to use for their music club would CLEARLY mean to use the money to buy a turtle as a kouhai and a new member of the club. Yes that happens... Like do you even remember K-ON??? The turtle thing made me completely drop the second season of K-ON since that reached my limited specially since the teacher ended being okay with it, not only that all the other members needed to approve such an a idea that Yui proposed. Sure Bocchi is the embodiment of all social anxiety and problems but we at least see improvement on it and the animation used to express such a thing is done in a unique and funny way.
Really speaks volumes about jjk’s story that Connor, the guy that skips cutscenes and only likes fighting, is the only one that thinks the story is good while Joey and garnt say otherwise lol.
I agree with garnt that the gojo past arc is the best arc in jjk cause we actually see well written characters doing something interesting and getting actual good development.
I am always surprised that the Vs. Mahito Arc is overlooked from a story standpoint. The killing the transformed kids and Junpei getting morphed...the hit like a truck for me.
S2 jjk is such Garbo. Shibuya arc was joke fiesta after they seal Gojo (Mechamaru was also BS on another level). Most fight after that was just for sake of "dumb".
Shibuya Arc is also well written.
@@rockstar1103 shibuya arc would be good if there was more set up for it. As is it feels like if Naruto did the pain arc at the end of of Naruto instead of half way through shippudden.

also, the fact that Joey "doesn't believe anyone has as much anxiety as Bocchi" or that he doesn't believe someone can go from pissing and crying with stage fright to breaking it down like a god once they're in their element, shows that Joey clearly has never talked to someone with anxiety. It took my gf like 3 years to get on a bus without having a hysteria attack. I mean sure it's exaggerated in Bocchi but it's almost like it's anime or something....

But I actually agree with him here, I am musician my whole life and that’s my full time career (not that it makes a difference everyone is entitled to their opinion). But I say this more in that I am a music anime connoisseur. Tbh bocci was just ok for me, the music certainly wasn’t bad but I can’t remember a single song or melody nothing sticks. Garnts explanation at 58:00 about Rudy reminds me of a MHA discusion that was had on Reddit. It was about how alot of people just can not forgive Endeavor despite him trying his best to fix his broken family that he caused. BUT people can easily forgive a character like Vegeta who was a straight up villian who's done awful stuff like destroy civilizations, blow up planets, kill innocent people, make stupid choices that led to bigger problems and had a hand in the death of the z fighters.
Kinda like what Garnt said. Endeavors situation is just too real and hits a little too close to people so people find it so much harder to forgive him.
It’s such a fascinating concept in stories for example itachi is a WIDELY beloved character in Naruto even though he committed genocide and heavily worsened his brothers life. You would think he would be hated but because it’s not a commonly relatable situation no one bats an eye.
I can't say anything about MHA
But the reason I dislike the character of Rudi is that he is a 30 year old who get reborn and decides to become a pedophile.
Thorfinn is a kid that grows up in war and hate, you can understand why he acts like that.
@@c4ptaintuttle276 Rudeus doesn't decide to become a pedophile after he's reborn, he is a pedophile way before that in his previous life. After being bullied at school he shuts himself up into his room and becomes a hikikomori (a real issue in Japan where people can't socialise and end up as a human parasite). He spends decades coping with life using the internet, just like many people that watch anime today he copes using fantasy.
As a result of this, his mental state is completely fucked and he is a complete bum of a human being. That is the setup for the character Rudeus. Does somebody like this deserve to live a happy life and redeem themself? Does he deserve a real place In the world? Just because he's a bad human does he deserve to die alone with no friends? Mushoku tensei is a redemption of the lowest of low human being into a man that protects, loves and provides for his family and makes a meaningful difference to the world.
People that hate this anime are just projecting their own shortcomings onto rudeus, pointing out his flaws. But they are hypocrites since they also likely spend their real life coping with media and games. They are projecting their own issues with imperfection onto those around them. You are not perfect, nobody is perfect so don't judge others based on your ideals. These are the core ideas of Mushoku Tensei.
@@edward-34salamanca I can't remember that it was ever showed in the past that he was a pedophile.
It was just suddenly after he was reincarnated , also he had a lot of time to reflect in a pretty decent environment.
But after 13 years of time to think and 32 years of life experience before and he still didn't change and was a pedophile.
Also the way minor girls are just sexually displayed for cheap Fan service is awful.
I really liked the first season of mushuko tensei. Even with the problems I mentioned before.

Bocchi is for musicians not just introverts wtf come on guys. We don’t call Naruto a show for extroverts, that’s just a trait of the main character.
It's about an introvert learning how to communicate through music you could remove the music and change it to something else and it still would hit similarly
@@michaeldavis8918it’s about an aspiring guitarist who is introverted. Literally everything about the show from the gear to the playing is way too detailed to claim that you could just throw it away.
@leastselfawarepotassium make her an artist or a V-tuber or some other role you can get famous online without needing to show your face then have her meet friends who help he become less introverted boom bocci the artist or bocchi the tuber or whatever the show doesn't need the music to tell its message it does use music really well but the purpose of the show isn't the music

To this day I have never any pain equal to the agony I felt then. And with all this and yet still to feel so irrepressibly lonely. I will never wish that hell on anyone.

@@onijaanjonu3367 yep i completely agree with this. i’d like to add that joey *might* be confused(i’m not sure if he actually is) because of the way anxiety is portrayed through animation for comedic effect and *may* think that, that is how it feels like - as in EXACTLY feel like THAT. i do believe i have social anxiety, it got better, went completely downhill, might be getting better but if you condensed and animated it, it would probably feel like that. bocchi glitching out on the ground is just another way to say she’s shaking - a metaphor. or even the scenes where she’s hiding in a box, it can be interpreted as another way to say she’s super nervous to go up on stage, and when she is on stage she may be trying to hide (like when she performs whilst hiding in the box) or not be seen, she feels uncomfortable seeing all the people looking at her and may not want to be perceived. and honestly i’d rather perform hiding in the box.

People say Joey is pretentious because he thinks Lain and Monster and other "deep" anime are the best, but honestly the most pretentious opinion is to hype up K-on while reducing Bocchi, Bandori, GBC and other girl band anime to "cheap K-on clones". As an introvert full time musician, I had panic attacks nearly everyday for most of my life lol. I would throw up right before going on stage, and I couldn’t eat at all the day of a show. I really wish the boys would all rewatch Steins;Gate because it's genuinely such a good show with so many amazing scenes but every time it gets brought up in a video they never talk specifics they just say "I remember it being really good but I can't specify what I liked about it because I can't remember the specifics. all I remember is the beginning and the destination and it being amazing". Since they rely purely on their memories about the show they just think about it's legacy as being a geniusly written show with a calculated story but they forget all of the great character writing and emotional moments in-between all of these huge revelations in the story that make them so great. ex. Mr. Braun committing suicide, Suzuha discovering that Daru is her dad, Okabe stealing the phone from Moeka and sending the dmail but realizing it didn't work because past Moeka didn't believe the message, Suzuha time leaping back in time and becoming someone Mr. Braun looks up to. All of these are such great moments not only in terms of genius calculated writing plot wise but also character wise
true true, Steins gate is much more well written than aot and especially factoring aot ending into the comparision I dont know how you can pick Aot over steins gate which has a goated ending.
@samuraijosh1595 AoT ending is great in the anime and the only reason people don't like it is because they don't get understand it. Also, the hosts never put down or trashed Steins Gate, which is a great show. They just like AoT better which is a valid opinion. Stop crying
@@Omar_E11 I never said they put it down I just said that it's a shame they don't get into more detailed discussions about it since they don't remember it much. Joey saying Bocchi's sound track is ass made me feel that the name of the podcast fit really well for the first time in a while.
How I view Bocchi is that her behavior is not really realistic, but it signifies how a person with social anxiety sees themselves. It's overexaggarated for a comedic relief too, and her behavior shouldn't really be compared to reality, so I kinda die a little bit inside when Joey tries to make the point that people like that don't exist. She's a fictional character in an anime and that's why it works.
"What do you mean someone with social anxiety doesn't morph through a bunch of art styles, to then become a terrible 3D model, and then be sent flying through the air to hit bowling balls? That's not realistic guys... So bad"

As much as I appreciate Garnt for defending Bocchi, his defense is terrible. At least for me, I did not watch or enjoy Bocchi because it was "relatable." Connor can't absorb ideas too easily the way Garnt does, who appreciates the message that any piece of literature is expressing regardless of how it's done. He literally needs Garnt to explain it to him lol
Yeah. This is why I wish the anime didn't cut the convo in S2E23 the way they did. It cut out all of Rudeus's convo with Roxy about what a man who has lost his entire family, who has betrayed them, who now cannot go back to them to apologize or make amends can even do to remedy the situation. I feel like this part of the novel was this explicit because the author knew it had to be to get through some thick skulls and lo and behold when it's cut a lot of people don't get it.
Regardless, the anime made a mistake on that particular aspect so I think that particular criticism is more valid than others.

When I was a kid I actively disliked those types of kids because I always felt like they were faking it for attention because if I could pretend to be comfortable/normal despite having a panic attack then so could they (I don't think that anymore since I know it comes in all different forms and depends on different factors, I also thought it was embarrassing when other kids cried at that age, just saying I can understand where Joey is coming from)

As someone who used to play in a band, during my first time playing on stage, I can relate to bocchi feeling all anxious backstage but then everything changes once you're actually on stage with all those blinding spotlights pointed at you, the anxiety is still there but you'll also think to yourself "I'm finally here, I'm not gonna waste it" then the moment you see people enjoying listening to you while playing on stage, it feels magical, like you want more of it, the emotions you get knowing you're giving people a good time through your music is unmatched, so yeah I would say bocchi is realistic in terms of that moment where she was socially anxious backstage then felt like a rockstar when she was finally playing on stage, cause I experienced the same moment and emotions before

To me the issue is not even that, its like he conviniently forgets that its anime only for Bocchi. Gurren Lagann is allowed to be hyperexaggerated because it is fun, similarly Bocchi was hyperexaggerated for comedic effect (as reflected by all the unique animation). Joey and Connor took Bocchi way too seriously, like "It was a writing mistake to make her that socially inept" whereas GL is simply "anime fun".

Honestly, I prefer Mushoku Tensei's light novel over Vinland Saga's manga. Despite the different mediums, I think it has a better story, better character arcs, and a more lovable cast. But as an anime... no, Vinland Saga sweeps Mushoku Tensei. S1 Mushoku and S1 Vinland Saga are great. S2 Mushoku does not compare to S2 Vinland, sadly. Characters like Cliff, Zanoba, Julie, Elinalise, Roxy, Pursena and Linia, and even Sylphy to an extent... all were *HEAVILY* butchered in the anime compared to the LN. It's sad. I still love all of them in my heart, knowing what they *could* have been in the anime, but it's not the same
