    I look at the the monitor in the video and go all like:"Damn, that's black.... wish my monitor was like that". Then I come to the sudden realisation that the video plays on my monitor. Biggest derp of the year so far

      omg i hate those cheap displays. Most are tn panel aswell. Ive used 2 laptops with those screens. Why the weird res. Always 1366x768. It is basically 720p. Except 720p content will look blurry on it. I'm so glad i ditched those years ago.

      ElitePotato8 That's why I spent the extra money to buy a MacBook Pro and installed Win7 on it because I'm tired of the low quality laptops the PC manufacturers are putting out there! When will they learn there is a market for high quality, brilliant looking displays on a full-size laptop?!?!

      it depends, if you are a designer or programmer probably flat. I prefer straight damn lines, instead of screen distortions. But if you are a gamer, probably curved. It gives you fewer reflections and overall a better field of view.

    I've owned both the LG #34UC97 and #34UM95 - Side by side I did indeed prefer the flat for work (photo editing) and the curved for play and movies. Both are great but the curved affect gave me the illusion that landscape photos and stuff I was working on were curved when in fact they were straight - I did not like that aspect.
    On top of that, the 34UM95 has a build in LUT so calibrations are stored inside the monitor as opposed to all other 34" ultrawides out now that store it on the PC or Mac via an icc colour profile that applies the LUT on the GFX card.
    Why is an onboard LUT useful for such a versatile monitor? It means you can connect up multiple sources like other computers and games consoles and bluray players and you will benefit from having accurate colours so your movies and games will be enjoyed how the creators intended.
    Just my two pence!

    or get a LG 29" flat ultrawide (with only dual HDMI inputs). I picked one up for CAD 289 in december. So you can basically buy 2 or 3 of them for the price of 1 34"... lack of other inputs really made it much cheaper, if I wanted more inputs it would've cost me almost double. But HDMI works just fine as long as your graphics adapter supports the correct standard (I'm guessing 1.4a or greater, which is what my laptop has)

    21-9 gaming is broken at best currently.. u shouldnt tell gamers this is good for gaming.. u should be warning them... all the older games dont support it.. and about 1/3 modern games dont support it either.. you are then forced to rely on 3rd party apps to fix the aspect ratio + hud + fov..and the guys doing them apps are just regular guys not being paid..so its very very slow.. on the rare game it does work flawlessly its brilliant.. but if your a real gamer you play all kinds of games..and usually want to play new games immediately.. avoid 21-9 for a little while.. its getting better..atm its more trouble then its worth

      yes the flawless widescreen is one of the 3rd party mentioned in original post.. and when it says 16-9 only or stretched..that means it doesnt work btw..so when u remove all the games from this list that dont offer real 21-9 support/hud support/fov support..your left with a very tiny list.. do uno how many games are on the PC ?? endless amounts..and u just listed a handful..some with "u need to do this" or "it stretches" or "cutscenes are wrecked" you just proved my point.. u cant argue a fact and its a fact shared by any rational 21-9 support owner (me) and the UWS community..this is why we band together and try help make games work because there not officially able to work

      I have a GTX 970, which is still a fine card. Getting a 980 at this point in time is a bit silly, considering that the 1070 is the same price, performs like a Titan X and has 8 GB of ram. My main concern is productivity (mainly programming), gaming is secondary. I have 3x1080p monitors now, but they take sooo much space.

    • @Ubben1999

    • @Ubben1999

      CLASH & BOOM WITH ME Honestly, the 970 is a bit too weak for proper 3440x1440 gsming (unless 30 fps is your thing :p), but I will be so busy next semester (120 % studies and working extra) that I probably won't have time for vide games until Vega comes out. I'll hold out for a deal on an ultrawide for a while, but will probably snatch one up before summer's at an end :)

  • @NightOfTheLiving8bit
    @NightOfTheLiving8bit 9 років тому +3

    The curved Samsung sure is DAMN nice, but really...for only a 1440p at 60hz, the $1,200-$1,300+ price tag isn't worth it.
    If it was a 1440p 120hz monitor, it's slightly more feasible, but even a 4K 60hz set up, would finally justify the price.
    Given that there are monitors out there at 1080p, 144hz WITH GYSNC for half of this price, though aren't curved, its hard for this to be worth it.
    Even more so seeing that they make 1ms response time monitors much more readily available and this one is still at the more common 5ms response time.
    Which my 40inch Vizo is even at a 5ms response time, which is what I typically use for PC gaming, leaving my smaller BenQ IPS monitor for everything else.
    Though I will add that the curved aspect of TV's is surprisingly interesting.
    It manages to give a natural depth to content in a weird way, coupled with 4k resolution content, and things start to become a "window" into entertainment.

    • @Skooteh
      @Skooteh 9 років тому +1

      "Given that there are monitors out there at 1080p, 144hz WITH GYSNC for half of this price..." those aren't comparable to this monitor really at all, they're meant for entirely different purposes and different peoples. The Toyota Prius is a good car but I wouldn't recommend it to someone looking for a pickup. Besides, you can get the same refresh rates, better response time for even lower resolution and less money by going CRT (mostly sarcasm about the CRT).

    • @Mismatch-

      You do realize that, even though the vertical pixels are 1440, the horizontal aren't 2560, but 3440, right?

    • @HeadBassVTEC
      @HeadBassVTEC 9 років тому

      3440x1440 can't possibly be more then 60hz as of now since there is no cable to run that bandwith so stop complaining about unrealistic things
      I'll grab one of these 34" (this sammy is the best of them, just needs freesync) if amd improves the power efficiency (so less heat/noise and more oc) or nvidia improves SLI (SLI scaling really sucks compared to xdmaCF), hopfeully it will be amd since there already is first freesync monitor announced and guess what - it's 21:9 34"
      I love my msi 970 (running 1.5ghz on stock voltage and silent) for 1920x1200 but tried two of them and it sucked so it won't do it for me on 3440x1440

    • @NightOfTheLiving8bit

      Display Ports can't run more than 60hz at 4K resolutions?
      IF there are Display Ports that can run 7680 × 4320 × 24 bpp @ 60 Hz, then there HAS to be an easy tweak to achieve 120hz @ 4K.
      Stuff like firewire and Ethernet CAT 6 should be utilize for the "cables standards of the future" honestly.
      Even more so seeing that the newest monitors are becoming nothing but boxes that transcode data and throw it onto the screen and with implementations like GSYNC doing a lot of the work, there shouldn't be an excuse to why we can't have those standards in the near future.
      I think my comment was a bit misunderstood as well.
      The problem is, the complete oddity of the cable within itself and making it a standard, wouldn't be worth it currently until HDMI is able to keep up, as let's face it...Display Port isn't a "name" companies can really make money off of right now.

  • @francisfrancis4219
    @francisfrancis4219 8 років тому

    Curved screens make sense because the distance from the eye to the centre of the screen is the same as to the edges as the screen.
    Also, this allows you to see the pixels both at the centre and edges of the screen more face on, that is viewed directly ahead of you, rather than at an angle; as which occurs when viewing the pixels on the edges of a flat screen.
    However to achieve both of the above effects fully, you have to be situated at a distance which corresponds to the focal point of the screen, which (presumably) then needs to be equivalent to the radius of the curve of the circular arc -which the curve of curved screens may not even be based upon.
    But other problems arise, for example, does sitting at centre circle of a circular arc also optimise other variables?
    Perhaps not, because screens of various resolutions require various viewing distances to appreciate the various maximum resolutions which our various visual acuity levels require.
    Lets say they do get all of the above right with curved screens, they still need to overcome a peculiar problem associated with them: that is, of double reflections.
    I've only ever viewed curved screens in stores, and that was a while ago, so I can't remember their effects when viewing from a position that feels like the centre of the arc but certainly when you look at curved screens from far away a new type of reflection emerges.
    Not only do you get ordinary surface reflections like on a flat screen but you also get an additional "real image" reflection that floats around in the air front of the screen. I'm pretty sure these real reflections are also magnifications of the reflected objects which makes them an even bigger annoyments! Would have to recheck my school science books to figure it all out.
    Anyhow, this makes curved screens even less suited to being used in brightly lit environments.
    Furthermore, they're only really suited to the sad lonely person who lives in the dark. Because only one person can fit in the optimal viewing location.

    I would prefer to stick with 16:9 just because it fits with the content I consume, if I need more space I would just get another monitor or use a different system as backup. 1 thing I really hate though is the 4 joystick nob, why do I need to do more than 1 press just to power off??

    I think the ultimate setup is 2 (that's right, two) 34" ultra wide curved monitors. Gives you even more screen space than most triple monitor setups, and allows you to enjoy a fantastic gaming experience on one while still having other programs visible on the other. (Also great for MMO multiboxing). I just need to find a desk to fit them on, lol.

    My best setup for all-encompassment, is to have 2 screens, at the moment, 1 is 2.5K res and the other is 1080p, this is great because I can have the pixel perfect viewing of a 1080p monitor for my films, and my 2.5k for developing and gaming, also the multi-monitor system works well when I want my music player to always be visible, and shy of a keyboard with a built-in screen, or a 7 inch screen below my primary monitor, I can at least, see more.

    VA panels rock.
    Its funny how people dismissed them somehow
    If you ever used the BenQ 27" VA's you will be convinced.
    no ghosting its 4ms gtg but overall its great for lag i see no ghosting at all on em.
    The Colors are great vs TN aka more comparable to IPS but maybe not quite at great but close imho.
    No they dont do 120hz
    neither does IPS
    and they usually are 1080p pannels
    but if you want a 1080p with good colors compairable to ips with good response times @ a cheap as dirt price VA is the way to roll .
    I bought one awhile ago i liked it so much i bought 2 for work and use them in duals

Since i got this beauty i cant go back to anything that i had before. Also my head started to hurt from my eyes a while back , its sayd that you calculate a lot of distance from your eyes to the middle of the screen and that makes your eyes/head hurt. with the curved screen i dont have this problem anymore as it fits into my sight perfectly.

    This monitor is tempting. I just sent back one of those Acer predators w/Gsync. It had the worst backlight bleed I've ever seen (looked like Pac-Man was eating my screen from one side). Even without that, the picture was fuzzy because of the AG coating and Gsync didn't feel that much better then what I can do with Adaptive Vsync, fps limiting, settings, and a high-end GPU.
    For $800 on that monitor I felt like I was using a budget option. I'm thinking I want three things, Glossy, VA, and Ultrawide. I have a BenQ 144Hz that I can pull out if I really need high refresh rate, but, in most games I can live without it... I want picture quality. It seems like gaming monitors and PQ don't go hand and hand.
    If only they had some good, Glossy, VA gaming monitors I'd jump on it. Sadly it seems like everyone wants IPS (backlight bleed/Low contrast) and AG coating (Looks terrible once you've used a Glossy screen).
