Scott - I was THERE in 1975 at the US Grand Prix and saw your car run! We marvelled at the amazing Matra sound as the car would SCREAM up the back straight, that unique V-12 sound echoing off the trees in the most surreal fashion. We tallked about it for years afterwards - and we were still pissed at Regazzoni for flagrantly blocking Fitti for 6 laps, essentially ruining what could have been a great race with Lauda for the victory. Get that puppy up to speed and record the sounds - the doppler effect is unbelievable! Have fun!
Some of you have no idea of what you are talking about and what is done with a car that is on track for the first time after assembly. New unadjusted clutch, new diff, new ring and pinion, gear throw not adjusted and engine never having been run in chassis. You just run the car like this to break in parts and find any unknown issues that come with assembly after 7 years work of rebuild and restoration.
In this case, don(t make a movie, just do your test day and when this car is ready to race, show us what is a marvelous car whith maybe the most beautiful V12 sound and power... I am very sad to see what this car can be now... An ambulance, no more !
Whilst I think he was driving the DN8 with a Cosworth engine up to the day of his death, I would like to think upon hearing the Matra cranked up, the spirit of Tom Price is smiling !
1975. Argentina. I was 11.... I went to see J P Jarier, qualify for pole with the Shadow ( with a Cosworth enigne). Number 17 !! The livery, I fell in love with it, right away..... Race day, sunday. I got up at 4 30 in the morning, anticipating the big crowd. My mom made me some sandwiches, for me and my best friend. So much excitement. So ready to see the Shadow win, and then the announcement, that it was not going to make the grid...... I cried so much..... It's only been 41 years
+Grant Beath I happen to live in Los Angeles, and UOP ( the oil company), happen to have an office in Fullerton ( a city close by) I was passing by their office, a while ago, and out of curiosity I went in, and saw a poster of the Shadow 17..... It was emotional.
Yes, shakedown (installation) is a whole different ball-game to driving a 'fully-sorted' car. Also, if you are new to the circuit AND the car, there is an enormous amount to take in...this is why teams employ development /test drivers before handing over to the regular race drivers. Remember, these cars are very valuable and often unique !
What a glorious sound back when racing cars actually sounded great. I woke to the V12 Matra at the Glenn at 0800 in 1973 when they began practice that morning only 40 feet from the track. Wow, what a screamer, I love the sound of these wonderful cars. Thanks.
Grant and Scott, Very cool video! Thanks for sharing. What a beautiful car! Fantastic restoration. Glad everything went so well. I hated to miss that day. Glad Dennis could be there to share the experience with you. Grant, I hope to see you soon and meet Scott someday. Roger Lemmel Classic Team Shadow
I really liked the paint jobs of the black UOP Shadow cars. I remember seeing George Follmer driving the earlier Shadow Dn1 at practice for the 1973 Dutch Grand Prix. I didn't go to the actual race and I'm glad I missed it.
When I was a kid was one of the cars that really caught my intention, including the name "shadow" when it referred to something mysterious in this world as the exciting formula one.
Fantastic Car; a real wonderful "one-of", as The Shadow team was considering this engine instead of the Cossie at the time. But the Cossie was the better option. More torque, lighter engine, less fuel required...... so, they did the sums and naturally there was no question. But this V12 sounds heavenly and I always thought it was a wonderful motor.
I think French politics came into play here. Guy Ligier had strong connections in Paris and was aiming to create an all French F1 team - car, engine, sponsorship and driver so Shadow were denied the engine.
Many of you have been asking for another video...well I finally got around to finishing an edit from the 2015 Goodwood Road and Racing Club's 73rd Members Meeting. This will be the first of 2 videos from that weekend. Stay tuned for more videos in the future from the 2015 Goodwood Festival of Speed as well! Reading the comments, I just realise how many F1 drivers are out there ready to drive this car and show that driver how to drive properly an F1 car. How the hell they didn't give them a chance to do theire job ?
Simply wonderful.I'd be nervous as hell driving that fantastic race car, those thing's are not easy to drive I would imagine. And with other cars on the track as well,I think he did a great job. What I wouldn't give to have a go in that!.
I have seen J.P. Jarier driving Shadow #17 in Interlagos, when I was 15. He led the field until mid race but retired with engine problems. At the end Pace and Emerson Fittipaldi made the first brazilian 1st&2nd in F1 history. The good old times of F1, when it really took a driver to drive an F1 car ! The sound of the Matra 12 engine is quite something else ! But the driver in this clip...
Does anyone remember an exhibition race at Laguna Seca between 2 Shadow F1's vs 2 Shadow Can-Ams?It took the F1's till the 3rd lap to catch up and they won.
Glad to see not everyone is happy keeping these beautiful machines dusting away in a museum and are actually using them for what they were made for in the first place :) Anybody know how much it would cost to get to drive one of these?
No one here has commented about their hate towards the new V6 hybrids. I assume that it is better to just enjoy the beauty of this car instead. It is amazing how much happiness such racing machines can give :')
SHADOW Is one of the most beautiful livery car in F1 1970s beacuse a lot of f1 cars in 1970s are full all colors but this car is full black white and gray color its like you time travel in 1930s or 1920s with black, gray and, white color with a f1 car woow 😍❤🏎⬛⬜

It made a beautiful noise but it was not a great engine. Big, heavy and not the most powerful. The Cosworth V8 was much better. Jackie Stewart and Tyrell refused to use it in their Matra chassis and bought a second-rate March for a season then built their own car rather than be forced by Matra to use their engine.

The Matra V-12 Engine is known to be a piece of art. Familiar of the winning 1972 Le Mans Matra V-12 Engine

Mas não com esse motor e sim com o Cosworth V8...
