- On August 23, 2022, Samantha Rust, Kekai Reeves, Dejonee, and Jake Shirakata came out from East Oahu to get some of the town action before the swell died. The wind turned on shore but the conditions improved as it got later in the evening.

Lots of memories there. In the Summer of 1978 I was a lifeguard at Ft. DeRussey next to the Hilton Rainbow Towers. I surfed Kaisers Left almost daily, sometimes until after dark when you could hear the wave but barely see it coming, hunkered down in the water to stay warm from the cooler night air.
It looks pretty mushy the day they videoed this. I don’t see Kaisers Bowl firing off. I used to watch Buttons and Mark Liddel shred the Bowl. Buttons was a real character out there. I used to see him from my lifeguard tower with binoculars. First time I ever saw someone spin a 360° was Buttons.
Yep, it was firing the two days prior and it turned onshore before this was filmed unfortunately. We got to talk story with Buttons at his surf school on the North Shore before he passed, he was really cool. R.I.P. The 70's in Hawaii must have been amazing

Not much of a swell at all. I've surfed Kaisers 3 times bigger, and with tubes. This was a average, no swell summer day......
