"Over the years the Morning Glory is undoubtedly our most known and praised overdrive pedal. It has won more awards and received more accolades than any other JHS pedal. It was created in 2009 out of a need for an overdrive pedal that simply took a guitar and amplifier’s tone to the next level without adding strong mid frequencies or any other characteristic that came along with the Tubescreamer style circuits on the market. Its goal was, and still is, to be incredibly easy to use and to be the most transparent overdrive out there. Even though the "transparent" buzzword is a bit overused all these years later, the meaning and application still stands as the best way to describe the magic that the Morning Glory brings to your rig. Let's take a look at what improvements the Morning Glory V4 has to offer."

the v4 is more rich in mid-high frequency!

V4 has different Pot-Values, so setting V3 and V4 to the same settings will not yield a proper comparison... just saying.

Ugh, frustrating that I bought V3 like a month before V4 came out. Although I think they sound almost the same, that extra switch in the new one is a nice addition.

Beef-Wellington it’s one less thing to plug in and carry. V3 might be the all time collectors favourite let’s wait and see.

Sinceramente ? Gostei mais do V3. O V4 me parece com um pouco mais de frequências médio-agudas e me parece ser um pouco mais “ardido”. Para um pedal de 1º estágio, o V3 me soa um pouco melhor.

Great video. I like that you turned up the volume on the v3 to match the v4. Once you did that they sound very similar.
The gain boost option on the v4 is cool, but stacking with another OD would work just as well, I think.

Wow! Great headroom on the V4. Both sound great, but a little headroom is always good.

V3 seems closest volume wise to clean guitar. That's why I chose V3 over V4. I didn't need the added headroom and the volume climbimg up like many OD pedals tend to do. I want that breakup at decent volume levels.

I think the added headroom just adds more white noise when the pedal is turned on. I want to compare it in person to the V3. Do you find the V3 to be a noisy pedal that affects your signal chain with hum even when it's not turned on ? My V4 is noisy

@@andrewstendahl36 Do you use a V4 with other overdrives?

    • @andrewstendahl36

@Marcos Marques occasionally, I've been using Reverb and chorus more lately. I prefer the voicings of the Wampler Belle and mini mxr Timmy as overdrives, they are quieter also. Morning Glory is kind of ratty like a klone pedal

@@xdoctorblindx the volume and gain are very interactive. Less volume, less mojo. Too much volume, not enough mojo at moderate levels

Plugged into my friend's V4 and it's definitely an improvement. For example, on my V3 I have to use the high cut switch because the pedal can get too shrill and harsh with its brightness. However on the V4 it seems like they already dialed back that harshness and let the red remote dial in that shimmer bright tone along with more gain which gives the pedal more headroom. Smart!

I found the same thing with my v3, I need to have the high cut on. Still an awesome pedal and my favorite drive, but I’ve been tempted to get the v4 for a while now.

Was going to get the v3 but I guess for a few bucks more the v4 offers just a little more for a little more cash.

I’ve tried them all. Aside from the Greer Lightspeed (I heard it boosts bass, and that doesn’t work in a live setting) and the MGv4 always ends up back on my board. It has this articulate high end thing. While maintaining a relatively flat EQ response.

    • @theaaronimal

Agreed! The Greer Lightspeed does boost the bass a little.

Les Mcc not, its a foot option, the V3 is manual, you see the V4 has another input on the right side, so instead of bending down and activate it, its your foot...for a extra 40$ 🥺

Just buy one used so that you're not technically giving to the IHOPKC, which is a radical organization. I'm Christian but I can consider them to be way too extreme.

At least according to Wikipedia, Josh has only been involved with IHOPKC for a short period of time (10y ago), and has clearly stated, that he does not support any 'crazy' (abusive, radical, discriminative etc.) behavior at all. So I think, there is no reason not to buy a pedal from this guy and his company. At least until I find some trustworthy evidence for him supporting any 'crazy religion'. I try to be careful, not to judge people too soon, based on rumors. That might be 'crazy', too.
