Overall, the OnionOS installation procedure is really simple.
Basically, the main four steps we cover to install Onion OS on your Miyoo Mini are -
1) Backing up the microSD card that came with our Miyoo Mini
2) Updating the firmware on our Miyoo Mini to the latest firmware
3) Formatting a new microSD card for OnionOS
4) Installing OnionOS onto our Miyoo Mini
It's really that easy to install OnionOS onto your Miyoo Mini.
This guide works to install OnionOS on the original Miyoo Mini, as well as the newer Miyoo Mini V2, and Miyoo Mini V3.
OnionOS has heaps of new features that greatly improve the gaming experience on the Miyoo Mini, including GameSwitcher, improved fast forward and save states, and better theming.
Overall, OnionOS is really simple to install on the Miyoo Mini, and it offers some big improvements.
I recommend everyone installs OnionOS on their Miyoo Mini.

Thank you for making this on a Mac because everyone else has been PC and I was HALF worried that it wasn't possible on a Mac.

What does half worried feel like? Is it slightly anxious, or does it cross over into the paranoia aspect? I need more on this, since we’re butchering English and all.
I couldn't do it on the M1 Mac. I had so much issues while trying to back up the sd card, my computer got stuck and even restarted like two time out of nowhere, it was a nightmare. I tried one last time with a Mac intel processor, and it was ok, no issues at all during the process. Either it was my computer or trying this with the M1 chip is not a good option.
@@Marcel.Miranda I did it just fine on a M1 MacBook Pro. I don't think the M1 is the issue here, because I've done this several times since with getting my ROMs and such just right.

My miyoo mini came with a cracked stock SD card that will not read. Will I still be able to upgrade to onion os using a new SD card?

If when i download the OnionOS i couldnt find the Roms folder on the new SD card, should I just copy the folder from the old sd card to the new one?
I noticed that when I am playing Pokemon Emerald (mGBA), I am unable to use fast forward multipliers in Onion OS. Whenever I use fast forward it does not do anything; it will just play the game at the normal speed. I am curious if this is a known issue.
If I switch to gpSP, it works fine with fast forward multipliers (2x, 3x, etc.). The only reason I will not continue gpSP is because it does not work for RetroAchievements (afaik).
Any help on this would be awesome :)
This onionOS doesn't work for me had to switch back to stockOS. Games crash, battery always show 0% even tho is full. The A button closes the game and goes back to rom menu, no wifi in settings, gave up on it.
I can't find the rims folder in the new onion os download and you said I can't use the old rom files right?
My onion os worked first time i turned it on now it boots up the screen shows the logo and the green just goes dark

You mentioned in 4:21 that we need to copy all of the files inside ".retroarch" folder, but my RetroArch folder doesn't have it. :( Can anyone help?
The file is hidden. The reveal it on mac you can press command + shift + .(period) in you folder.

I don’t know where I’m going wrong. I have the files (the six folders). I have a new 32gb formatted to fat32. I put the files into the card and insert into the miyoo mini. I turn it on and it show the miyoo mini start up screen then it just turns off. Am I missing a step? It’s still the older firmware and I want to update it. But that’s what this part is for right?? Thank you in advance. Please help me thru this frustration.
I would just reformat the card and try again. Also double check that your firmware version is compatible. Otherwise try another SD card

Where is the ROM folder on the onion SD card? I see, tmp_update, BIOS, Media, miyoo, RetroArch, and Themes. None of which contain a folder titled ROMs. So I'm not sure where to copy the ROMs from the backup
Did you ever figure this out? Are you just supposed to create your own ROMs folder?

I dont have those files in my retroarch file
It won’t load any games. It’ll say “loading” then go black and take me back to the game menu
just got the mini plus, installed the firmware and the os. now im getting game crashes, the power indicator is showing empty and a red boarder around the scree. should i reinstall firmware/os?

@@Kikimaster720 Same thing here, and on top of the border and power indicator showing zero all the time my volume is stuck on 100 and wont adjust by pressing the volume button on the side. I ended up reverting back the native OS.
I am getting an error when I drag and drop the files when trying to back up the ROMs. Im using a mac. Any advice?

Where's the ROMs folder in the Onion OS? I don't see it and you didn't show how to navigate to it. Do I have to make my own? If so, in what directory?

I am having issues with Step 2. I downloaded the file to my Mac, and then transfer it to the mini SD. Yet when I remove the SD and put back into my Miyoo, it just shows that it's charging.

where do i put the roms? There isnt a folder for it on onion os
in your SD card, there's a "Roms" folder. put them in the correct console folder inside that

well, I'm doing exactly what you say and in step 3 everything is a mess and dont work. don't know if your not explaining something or what, but I watched the video several times and doesn't work at all
Specially the part where you're copying the roms. You suddenly have both roms folders open, but I dont have any rom folder in my new onion sd card. What have you done before that step?
On the new SD Card create a folder called "Roms", load Onion OS and it will autamtically create the folders of each core inside the "Roms" folder.

My SD card literally has 110 GB of data....
