Dear Gabriel: Welcome back, friend! Do I have any tips, regarding planted tanks? You bet: 1. Empty the tank and remove the pool filter sand; 2. Put Black Diamond Blasting Abrasive (medium grit) (this is just coal slag) inside the visible perimeter, of the tank, about 3 inches deep; 3. Put a 1/2” layer of compost (processed horse manure), inside the perimeter, of coal slag; 4. Cover the compost, with 2” of coal slag; 5. Slope the coal slag, so that it is highest, in the back and center, of the tank; 6. Fill the tank with cool, tap water (no need to use de-chlorinator, at this point); 7. Add plants; 8. Wait six weeks; 9. Test the water. If Ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate are minimal, test it again, after one week; and, 10. If all, three parameters are fine, you are ready, to add fish. I hope you have good success, with planted aquaria. All my best, Sincerely, E. J. Brinegar
I know you've planned jungle val which is awesome. I love it because it's fast growing, beautiful and when it reaches the surface and lays there it's almost like a floating plant that fish can take shelter in. As for other plants, there's crypts, java ferns, lots of different mosses and of course anubias. I think you'll really be happy when you start seeing all that green in the tank.
Look forward to this tank full of plants. You definitely can grow plants in pool filter sand. I honestly would put plants in there that you want and like. Jungle Val like you said is good because you can buy a few plants and over time they will propagate and fill your tank. Just do some research on the plants you like to see there requirements and if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Hey Haeeeyyyyj, I'm glad you stopped by, I have seen many of your videos and would like to hit you up on facebook as messaging here is a lil more difficult.
Looking forward to watching the path you take. StephenP2003 Awkwardics does have a live stream series called wet your plants, Bentley Pascoe also has some great information on plants and substrate. If you are getting guidance from someone I do recommend following it and not picking and choosing random information. It can lead to frustration. Information can be king, but it can also be the mind killer. 😉
Gabriel so I just recently setup a 125 fully planted tank. Although I didn't use sand. But Father fish has a great deal for 59 bucks you get a ton of plants mostly stem plants. I have a couple of videos on my 125 one of them shows how big a bag of plants you get.
