George Washington’s humility was very impressive. He stated honestly that he doubted he was the ideal candidate to lead the Revolutionary troops but accepted the assignment unquestionably as his duty… that is a class act and a brave one. He had had enough military experience to know exactly what he was up against. The job he had - to convince each state’s militia to work as a team with each other despite vast differences and minimal respect for each other- was before any notion of a national unified military identity. It was as though he had to function as a psychiatrist/mediator much of the time with his men. As if he didn’t have enough on his plate, he seemed to be a very exacting interior decorator in his letters home to Martha and his letters home on the subject are very entertaining; perhaps it was a diversion for him. Finally taking on the duty of being the first President is a monumental responsibility by any standard yet again retiring back into private life in the same humble manner as Cincinnatus shows remarkable character.

Today, we may still encounter struggles and challenges reminiscent of those times. Thank you for sharing the wonderful video featuring historical documentary.
Whether George Washington was, or wasn't the great military leader or skilled politician (I believe he was both in spite of his shortcomings) can be debated, but what he definately was was the right man at the right time, full of conviction and strong of character.
