George Washington’s humility was very impressive. He stated honestly that he doubted he was the ideal candidate to lead the Revolutionary troops but accepted the assignment unquestionably as his duty… that is a class act and a brave one. He had had enough military experience to know exactly what he was up against.
The job he had - to convince each state’s militia to work as a team with each other despite vast differences and minimal respect for each other- was before any notion of a national unified military identity. It was as though he had to function as a psychiatrist/mediator much of the time with his men.
As if he didn’t have enough on his plate, he seemed to be a very exacting interior decorator in his letters home to Martha and his letters home on the subject are very entertaining; perhaps it was a diversion for him. Finally taking on the duty of being the first President is a monumental responsibility by any standard yet again retiring back into private life in the same humble manner as Cincinnatus shows remarkable character.

Today, we may still encounter struggles and challenges reminiscent of those times. Thank you for sharing the wonderful video featuring historical documentary.

Whether George Washington was, or wasn't the great military leader or skilled politician (I believe he was both in spite of his shortcomings) can be debated, but what he definately was was the right man at the right time, full of conviction and strong of character.
I know one thing, what American Govt. has become is something these men would stand and denounce as tyranny.

Washington was imperfect to be perfect in wholesome. He wore many hats and did not have enough time to perfect each hat to his size, but he weathered the storms or the rains with different hats. He had enough character that French helped him to be ultimately successful and Congress repeatedly trusted him as well with utmost respect.

My 11 times great grandfather,Samuel Fuller, was a 10 yr old boy on the Mayflower. My family settled in central and southern New Jersey, near Philadelphia. Thanks to DNA testing and my daughters tenacious and incredible ability to dig up old documents,it turns out that a more recent grandfather was well acquainted with George Washington as well as some other of the Founding Fathers. And although I'm just a 58 yr old woman trying not to lose the family farm to insanely high property taxes, this makes me proud. I love American history and live near many historical(but not well known, only acknowledged by small roadside plaques)sites from the Revolutionary War,all the more interesting knowing my ancestors fought for my freedom in that and other wars.......

Religion and morality are the essential pillars of society. -George Washington
It is impossible to govern without God. It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits and humbly implore his protection and favor. -George Washington

The United States of America should have a foundation free from the influence of clergy.
      George Washington
Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law.
      Thomas Jefferson
This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it.
      John Adams
The Bible is not my book nor Christianity my profession. I could never give assent to the long, complicated statements of Christian dogma.

I liked this study. I believe President Washington used what he had to get what he needed in the best fashion that he could. I believe tgat you are only as good as your subordinates. They carry out a leaders intentions. It takes leadership to keep a group together. Leadership w humility and a higher calling to oversee and govern.
This requires a far deeper answer than probably afforded to this comment section.
Great President. Great Leader. A far cry from what I see now....

The reason we won this revolutionary war, was because we had fought the Native American wars, and we knew guerrilla warfare, which was an entirely new algorithm. Essentially, we used the land to advantage and didn’t lineup and rose like
Chess men like kings, or pauns of men .

We don’t have to live by the sins of our grandfathers, but if we know better now, and we have the library of Alexandria at our fingertips with the Internet, and we have more knowledge, information and opportunity to communicate, why would we not do better than our counterparts that have existed for us? Greater men and women have not existed before us. They are us. We just have not gotten up yet and done something.

Washington, a very imperfect man, to be sure, most of all with his grave sin on slavery. The big HOWEVER stands with his greatest contribution for humanity, that of stepping aside as president (while many called for him to be King) and setting the strong precedent for all who followed (well, save for FDR, a more "gifted" leader, yet too vain to step aside, but we'll set that one apart). Great video!
