In this video, I show and try to explain how I painted a network of trees and branches around the church in my painting "Forgotten Church," which is acrylic on a 11 by 14 inch canvas.

Here are a few key things I want to point out...
First off, doing an underpainting or drawing to workout your composition before you going into details! And keep in mind the order of your objects in the composition to choose what you paint first and last accordingly!
Then when you paint the trees, paint the skeletons first, then branches from large to small afterwards! Add leaves towards the end! Don't follow this 100% as it is ok to do leaves then branches too!
Go into detail once you feel the trees and branches are in the right spot and the whole composition is set!
Lastly.... Trees have volume, they are not 2 dimensional! Think of them as a bunch of cylinders connected to each other especially as you render the bark texture!
