- Solo (put pawns on WAIT) & Not ruining her humanoid parts = The Puzzle
She also presents her paw to you and spreads out her wings during the post-teleport phase pointing out WHERE you should strike, super nice detail & hint by her.
Few things to say about this are: Wings are weak, hit her wings if possible, do not hit her "humanoid parts" it will piss her off and cause her to leave, honestly you should go solo because it will be easier to manage NOT damaging her humanoid parts, Also she is weak to fire on top, magic is definitely viable just be sure to dodge the attacks!
Also in phase 2 her amulet glows and trust me I've literally one-shot the amulet and followed up with a downed state finished on her, feeling like it should "solve" the puzzle, many times, but it would result in her becoming immortal at 1% hp and leaving even on the killing blow animation... I think currently just not hitting her humanoid parts is key to the puzzle.
I also stream at / lennic !

I'm glad it seems like she's not actually dead.
I really appreciate the timing of when the music comes in, the whole fight is honestly beautiful
So after all that, the puzzle was to hit the back legs. Still, better than the cheat arrow
Cheat arrow?
I feel like the arrow makes more sense than hitting the back of the leg they even want out of their way to make a mural deoictic the unmarking arrow as a "clue" to defeat her even tho shit is messy and buggy af
@@fleeplayTV Not buggy, I've done the fight 5 hours straight, its very methodical and simple, the arrow will always be a cheat code same as in DD1, you just don't use it cause it's boring
"Arrow of Unmaking"
@@lennic is buggy or coded weird because when she's about to leave if you use it at any other point outside of specifically when she is on her full flying animation then it won't work for whatever reason, had to re-start and test this because so many times nothing happened.
I was Mystic Spearhand and just went ham using Wild Furie on her ass and she died before even seeing any teleport phases or other abilities.
You can also give the order "Stop" to pawns, they wont attack. I did that for quests requiring not killing the monster right away
oh fair, I honestly didnt use them and I thought that just makes them attack from range, that is perfectly fair !
This doesn’t work in combat. For example if you tell a pawn to wait and they are attacked they will ignore your order and continue fighting. If you are also hit by a monster the pawn will ignore your order and come to your aid.
You can bring your pawns outside the boss arena and tell them to wait there. @@Unchainedful
@@Mr.Nahe.Dortmund did you try this? I haven't had much success with that in the past, if a had them waiting far away and i took some damage, i always had at least one pawn come running in.
Not sure if it's them having chirurgeon as specialisation or having kindhearted as inclination, because the inclination makes more difference than ppl think
Her weak point is on the top of her back if you want to kill her even faster you can easely climb i think
Well done, nice having a solo guide for this.
It would be cool if there was a manticore or something with the same fighting style so we could have this boss fight without killing the sphinx waifu
she leaves tbh, doesn't die, every other enemy leaves a corpse, I think this is satisfying enough
🤨📸
Sphinx was first introduced in Dragon’s Dogma Online (griffin variant with sleep magic and dark magic AoE). They later added the Manticore as a new unique enemy, with an annoying poison tail swipe.
Considering how much they used from DDO in DD2, it would be nice if they added some of their enemies: Tarrasque, Phoenix, Manticore, Ent, Automaton, Behemoth, Lindwurm, Catoblepas, Spirit Dragon, Ifrit, Black Dragon, Dark Knight, etc..
Slime, Medusa, and Sphinx were brought back and reworked as better enemies with Medusa and Sphinx being closer to their original myths rather than just enemy reskin.
@@toodleselnoodos6738 i hope they rework and make unique monsters of the succubus, siren, and other varients of monsters.
just imagine, a siren boss fight near the coast. and if they use their song, can drive your pawn into the brine.
or ice drakes, who could be more intelgent them regular drakes and actively NOT stay still in one place to recieve damage (my only peave with current drakes.)
By lore of DD2, the Brine consumes ALL, sirens would not be protected and they too would be consumed.
bro didnt even have thief maxed out
I wonder if a mage support pawn with Silence and some buffs/heals would work, but they might still use the shitty basic attack and ruin it
Well done. So the solution was not to get hit.
not getting hit is just a bonus tbh, it doesnt affect the fight or outcome
helm splitter is actually absurd. does more damage than a fully charged warrior attack, comes out faster, can spam more, lol.
True, all I can say is tho that the beylade attack doesn't really stagger enemies/bosses, warrior does
I would like to figure out what the amulet does in phase 2 and why you would destroy it ,it seems to piss her off and dissapoint her during the fight, even though as a Thief you can Plunder (skill) an all-heal elixir when she's downed, which is arguably more valuable than the mega wakestone... but still, I'm not sure that is the only niche use for that.
The amulet is the key for the big chest, going for it might be seen as greed for the Sphinx
@@Laapinou b-but the all heal elixir
She was entertained? Sounds like she/it was just having fun.
For sure, the fight is a puzzle, and she straight up just leaves - she doesn't actually die, every other enemy in the game leaves a corpse, this is clearly intentional, I like it !
Definitely not an it wtf
Well she's a mythical godlike creature. She definitely isn't dying to anyone that isn't the Seneschal. Even the Unmaking Arrow does nothing to her. She just disappears and congratulates you.
@@TheStraightestWhitest she dies to the Medusa head, but you wont get the key from her though.
@@PuraCaseus Yeah maybe she considers the Medusa head cheating. Crazy how that thing kills both her and Talos.
GGs
i literally did the same thing, including soloing her & staying stuck to her back legs, but she stopped taking ANY damage from m my Daggers at 1.5 bars of HP! I finally got her down w/ my DuoSpear, but a hair away from Death she GTFO's & I'm like, WTF?!? THX so much for showing me "what I'm aiming for" m8!!
did you reload during the fight? do it after a fresh save after sleeping, this is literally the answer to the riddle, I've done the fight several times with no issues, It is consistent
@@lennic yup, I went from an Inn Save, Ferrystone to Sphinx, immediate answer & fight LOL SMH
@@joshuachristofferson9227 I mean honestly the fight might be buggy either way, it seems to be weird
I thought she leaves if you don't use arrow. How do you make her stay?
everything is written in the comments/bio and video, goodluck
Problem: I put pawns on wait, but when I enter the sphinx zone those commands disappear, with pawns calmly walking to the edge of the arena and eventually getting involved in the fight. send help
just throw them off the cliff and solo it heh
@@lennic understandable, throwing them off feels good af xD but I solved by unequipping them weapons so they can get the juicy sphinx kill badge eheh
@@Sparapatate wont they just hit her in the wrong spots with their fists?
I was trying to figure out what i was doing wrong. I was hitting the back legs i was doing NO dmg then i remembered i had the ring on from a previous riddle on 😅
I accidentally aggroed her so I decided to fight her, she flew away for me but I was hoping she'd be stronger
Why do all the guides say to use the Arrow of Unmaking if you can just fight her? I haven't done this yet, is she like super hard and you just made her look easy or something lmao?
Yeah the guides suck, that arrow is a cheatcode
if you or panws hit her human parts shes will eventually leave, so people misinterpreted that as the battle having a timelimit. the arrow was meant to kill her before she can disappear with the final chest key. with pawns its probably impossible to get the result shown in this video. makes sense, its always been a game between you and her, it really is just another riddle
Hello, can anyone give me a solution? I tried to kill the Sphinx because I can't find the location of my first seeker token. I fought with the Sphinx. How could I find her, or how do I open the chest now?
Honestly I think you need to finish most of her riddles to fight her but I'm not sure, if you can fight her try to not hit any of her face/chest and put pawns on wait, aim for the tail
what happen if you mount the sphinx after the last riddle?
no clue, but I think you simply can't mount her at all at that point
When I tried fighting it, after losing 2 health bars it said "Enough bla bla" and poofed off...
I was not able to replicate this without it running away sadly.
read the bio/comments, just stick to hiting her tail if you wanna play it really safe
I mean with the legandery thief skill from the guild master it is easy to avoid getting hit at all. When you then have a pretty high lvl the Sphinx will go down relatively fast in the end. At a certain lvl all enemies are pretty easy an can be done alone especially as thief with legend skill. Even getting a preserved Medusa head was laughably easy.... Hopefully ng+ will get much more difficult. I mean first 20 lvls were pretty good from the difficult perspective but when you want to do most quests and explore most dungeons you find you will quickly outlvl each region. I got to bathal with lvl 40+. I'm now 65 and do now most of the end Story quests. Like entering the Vulkan isles on the normal way...
But thus doesn't mean you did not well. Nice fight in the end.
yeah fair, don't use the ability just as much as you wouldn't use a one-shot arrow and the game's more fun tbh
Which weapon is that?
getting 30 seekers tokens, Dousing Spikes, theyre honestly amazing early on
@@lennic What is your status? it seem you hit really hard even without max vocation yet.
@@PST07 at the time of the video i was like lvl 35-38, the daggers are really good, Dousing Spikes, zero effort just upgrade ones , and I was using mostly fighter/warrior augments
Hang on, I got this by accident. I didn’t realise that I did something right? What’s going on here?
You can’t hit her chest or face I think, so u might aswell just focus on legs as to not fuck up
Basically the riddle is to hit the "monster" bits and not the human bits. If you only hit the legs & wings, you can get it
@@DINGOlord oooh makes sense.
Sounds a lot like Freeza's voice actor 😮
It IS Frieza's VA in Japanese.
How do I get her to not fly away though?
In the first area ? Do her riddles most likely, again this is the solution to the “final” riddle which is the fight, I dunno if you can take a shortcut there
@@lennic sorry yes I meant to the fight with her. Is the solution really to just not hit her human parts?
@@roberth8254 Yes
@@lennic for warriors is tidal fury worth it over ravening lunge?
I have heavenward sunder, savage lash, surging strike, and ravening lunge equipped.
But tidal fury looks like it may be worth it over ravening lunge
@@roberth8254 not sure mate warrior is kinda interesting, I think a good set up in general is 1 big charge hit 2 utility moves and 1 defensive move (tidal fury), heavenward sunder & savage lash might be a bit overkill
I fucked up at the riddle where I needed to bring as many statues as riddles solved. Brought seven, even if it were just 6 riddles
basically the answer for this is 5 + however many chests are open in the frontier shrine, rip tho you missed it.. maybe next playthru or ng+ !
@@lennicThe amount of eyes open on her wings during the riddle also give it away.
That's it? she just does a bunch of AoEs that don't even have a chance of hitting you in the first place? you didn't even need formless feint. They really should've made combat harder than the quests themselves.
i tried to kill her normally once but she just flew away xD i dnt let me finish her. i thought i was futile to kill her normally so i used the one shot arrow Q-Q
can always re-try doing it legit on new playthru
@@lennicor ng+
Fuck. I guess I'll try again in NG+ i just gave up after trying 3 times and shot her with the arrow when she flew off.
Yeah man her fight's pretty fun I'd suggest solo and just taking it slow while dodging her moves, no need to force it now either.
No shit you did it no hit you had formless feint on 😂
lol if you actually watched the video you'd notice it didn't trigger once, I used it for bonus attackspeed, also I spend a total of 5 hours figuring out the puzzle and reloading back to town and doing the puzzle over and over again every time I would fail the fight... you can actually stand underneath her when she does half her attacks and it will never hit you, any vocation can do her no hit almost no effort
Bruh literally did some Back Shots 😂
The AI in this game looks terrible, such a cool looking boss but it can barely even turn to face you never mind hit you and just stands in place for 8 seconds at a time letting you stab it in the legs.
same in DD1, thief/strider etc with dodge rolls usually get you out of harms way, also this game is meant to be played with a 4 player party pretty much, and shes more of a puzzle rather than a genuinly hard fight
This isn't dark souls giga tracking no safe spot rollspam fest, reminder that some classes don't have a dodge button at all, and have to slowly walk out of the way
This game isn’t dark souls, the boss fights are more monster hunter like than souls like and even that’s a stretch, dragons dogma has never been difficult with the exception being bitter Black Isle if you played on hard mode
Yeah go play a vocation without defensive options and say that again 😂
@@TheStraightestWhitest this applies to other bullshit-tier undodgable move fights yes, but Sphinx is perfectly reasonable and avoidable by just walking or maaybe a sprint here and there
@@lennic That's what I mean. The AI isn't bad. It's giving you a chance regardless of what vocation you play. That's balanced.
