I'm hearing from a few people that their unmaking arrow is not killing the Sphinx for some reason which is a huge bummer. My current suggestion is to try and aim for her rear rather than while she's facing you head on as I've never seen issues from hitting her from behind. As always make backups if you're worried the kill might not go through. Alternatively you can use a medusa head to petrify her or fight her normally but again it's a gamble as she's more likely to fly away from standard combat. Good luck, Arisen!
Clarification: Trickster only needs rank 2 for Detection not rank 4 so it's even easier to acquire.

Another guide says to shoot her wing with it.
Also i kept on failing on the Duel, i'd stun the guy and throw him off n fail. Was because i equipped the ring manually, and i guess the quest tries to equip it and therefor unequips it automatically. (Was watching another guide where they didn't say it is auto-equipped)

The problem is that you have to shoot her in the body. The vase gives you the hint that her head and shoulders cannot be harmed, and you have to attack her lower half. I believe if you hit her anywhere in the head region, you fail and she leaves. This is how you beat her normally, you can just fight her and make sure to not hit her in the head or shoulder area. I've seen some people say their pawns have ruined this for them, but others have done it with pawns. So I suspect the people who failed probably just accidentally hit her face.
I've seen a video that gives you a cheaper way to kill the Sphinx, for those who want to safe the unmaking arrow for something else
Remember the stone carving at 5:46?
It is one of two that show you how to defeat the Sphinx it shows the back of the Sphinx coverd in wounds and seperates the Torso of her body
19:16 even the vase shows how to defeat her, because the fight is a riddle too
It is rather simple: as long as you only hit her non human looking parts (so do not hit her chest or face) you can normaly fight and kill the Sphinx without having to use the unmaking Arrow
It’s been so fun going for Platinum Trophy, pretty challenging. Bottom line is it’s a great game. If you don’t like micros then don’t buy them ❤️

the microtransactions take the fun from the game and are only there for lazy guys who need endless ferrystones and portcrystals and those who kill everyone on first sight and need more wakestones
All other are better of not paying anything cause as said you just ruin your fun

Also you can duplicate the finders stone from what I have heard. Make a forgery of it and it copies the stone which should be usable for the riddle on any playthrough
@@gamersinger5118 also, you can send the finder token as a goodbye gift to a pawn. those also count for the riddle. i got lucky someone sent me one and i could forge it. that worked for the riddle

For anyone having issues killing her. You HAVE to hit her with the arrow when she’s not facing you. Do not aim for the head or wings, ONLY her butt. Took me 3 try’s but I finally got it!
Seems like a waste of a great one shot arrow. Just hit her animal parts and she doesn't leave.
@@donovan1345but martyrs bolt one shots literally everything else so I might as well use the arrow here 😂 I’m on my 2nd play through, didn’t do the sphinx in my first. I literally used the arrow on one of those goblins that hold the shield because I couldn’t pierce it.

Thank you !!! I followed your tips but Instead I hopped on the sphinx and hitched a ride, realized I had no stamina anymore but I had my sorcerer weapon out and I galvanized the rest of the way, super clutch tip if you don’t want to use up your curatives or fall to your doom

Good guide, thank you. A solution for those who want to enjoy that stunning flight with Sphinx but dont want to leave behind an unlooted chest. You do need 2 Portcrystals for this. This is how I did it: before handing in the finder token make sure you still have a Portcrystal set in Mountain Shrine and one in inventory. Answer the riddle, grap the Sphinx, enjoy the flight, land at Frontier Shrine, set down second Portcrystal. Port back to Mountain Shrine, pick up the Portcrystal, grab the last chest (3 ferrystones), port back to Frontier Shrine. You spend 2 ferrystones but IMHO the flight is well worth it.
PS. If you do decide to take Air Sphinx then remember to grab/cling to Sphinx when she enters the cave system before Frontier Shrine. The ascent at the end of the cave will slide you off unless you are holding on. You can just stand on her back during majority of the flight.

21:03 For killing the sphinx though: 1. Complete the last quest dialogue, she says good bye and tries to fly away. 2. Rush to the chest and take the Unmaking Arrow.
3. Shoot her many times with *skills / normal arrows* , before she could leave! 4. After scolding you she lands and starts to fight back, *beat her in fair combat* , the arrow can't 1shot her now!
5. When most of her HP is gone she pauses the combat for another short monologue then tries to flee! 6. Quickly equip the arrow and shoot her before she could fly away from the arena!
Otherwise she may fall down onto an unreachable cliff side and drop the key + gold there.
tyvm for the walkthrough, succinct & informative. Also, aim for the hindquarters when firing the unmaking arrow.

Thanks for this. I gave up on the stupid Riddle of Rumination, but this helped me get the rest of it. Whew!
Btw the Whimsical Daydream (Trickster weapon) is busted. You can get 10, 100 or 1000 gold from normal enemies. I got 50K gold from a drake within the first 3 hits, you can easily make money with 0 effort. The rare gold drop seems to be a 1 time per enemy, need to test it more.
very interesting will have to give it a test against some of the other high level enemies!
The Jadeite Orb is another good item to duplicate through the Riddle of Conviction. So you can get the rewards from both people seeking it in a single playthrough.
the most efficient way to get the finder's token. don't get any seeker's token outside Vernworth instead go to the fountain in the middle of the merchant quarter. so you can easily remember the first token you get.

You can fight her in normal combat, I did so multiple times and she only ever left the fight if I went for her head or used underhand methods like magic archer master skill or similar... if you drag out the fight and give her a satisfying showdown without disrespecting her by attacking her face you can enjoy a very cool battle.
What happens if one of your team hits her chest or head? Does she still leave?
@@donovan1345Yes, although this can be avoided by either dismissing your hired pawns and keeping your mainpawn as a support mage with only non-damaging skills. Or and this is what I did, spam the "Wait" command and the pawns dispite you being in combat will back off and do nothing but as you can imagine it's a little bit of a hassle to spam right on the d-pad while also fighting the sphinx, I didn't spam it the entire time and my party got a few hits in but none to the head so I got lucky, so it's up to you how you want to go about it.
Loool I reached the second shrine at the beginning of the game trying to get to Backbathal the first time xD Of course it was empty, just magically sealed chests

Two things to note: NG+ she turns your Portcrystal into a "Partcrystal". A forgery. You will end up with a net loss of one Portcrystal. Secondly, I had her flap her wings during the answering of the Riddle of Recollection, knocking two statues a ways behind me and a ways off the platform. I've had them fall off the front of the platform and it's not a big deal. This was different. Nothing I could do. Wrong answer, game over for the Sphinx. Just thought I'd share.

Is it possible to get an Unmaking Arrow from the special NPC (after getting wyrmshards or whatever they're called), and then do the Sphinx quest and have that arrow duplicated? (That way you can get 3 in a playthrough) or is that NPC too far along to be worth it?
Great Guide! But i will only add something that the Stone carving depicting the Sphinx at the First temple and the shattered amphora both depict how the sphinx can be defeated. You must attack her wings and backside body in order for the Unmaking arrow to work or to defeat her normally. If you cause enough damage in her chest or head she will fly away and leave.
You get the detction passive right *after first level up* as Trickster
Just for those who can't use Trickster and therefore have a hard time leveling
But thanks for the tipp that this passive also works on the finders token, that makes it much easier so i can finally go do the Sphinx as i always use this passive (It's worth yourself in gold)
The Sphinx is so intimidating when she leans in like that.
Can you not ride the Sphinx after the 10th prize, if she tries to fly off? Or does she just simply vanish?
Just done every riddle according to this video and got all rewards, great video, a side note on the trickster weapon you receive, I think the amount must be more random than people think as I've just used it and got 50k gold within my first 10-20 hits on a bandit group. 😅
50k from 1 hit sorry not the total amount gained, mostly 10s, couple 1000's then got a 50k lump

I had a question for the final quest on the first part if we never speak to her about that quest yet will it just never start ? Correct ? I can save the final quest for another day then use her to fly to the second area ?
The ring of recitation is a great alternative it greatly boosts casting speed.
You only have to rank Trickster to 2 and you can cleanly take down the sphinx without blowing your god arrow by just attacking her bum and wings. The stone epitaphs with the sphinx show her weak spots as the areas with jewelry, so just don’t hit her face and chest. Great guide brother.
Definitely another option it's just not a guarantee as she can fly off if you don't kill her fast enough for some reason. This is a guaranteed kill every time and there aren't enough uses for the arrow anyways so it's worth using I'd say
You can also just use a Medusa head to turn her into stone, which you can get every 7 days ;)

Fun fact, I hate escort missions in any game...
My followers stay in spots they can't move from, and then don't move at all until they disappear lmao, I've lost 2-3 NPCs

The warfarer when they asked to accompany me...
But their destination was so far by the time I got there, they'd already glitched out and to where I don't even know the point of these escort missions except being time wasters.

I put a portcrystal there i was so certain that was my first one, and it was.
I would like to mention i read the comments regarding where to shoot her and i think its safe to say her rear is the best place to aim as i did it that way first try and i was slow doing it since i had no idea how to shoot the damn arrow 😂
I just spent hours following this guide and killed the spinx with the special arrow only for her to fly away and not give me the key. Yes she had a health bar. It also saves when you use the arrow so no final reward. Fun.

wings or back only you don't even need to engage the fight unlike what he says
Riddle of Recollection counts every riddle she has *GIVEN YOU*, not just the riddles you've answered correctly.
For example, I messed up the seekers token riddle in her first location, and Recollection was the first riddle she gave me in her second. So even though I'd only answered five riddles right, she still said I was wrong for putting five statues on the pedestal.
Just commenting this so others know not to make the mistake I did.
Please help me understand this better because I got this wrong as well
I did all five riddles at 1st location and found her at second location the first thing she asked me was riddle of recollection and I put six statues.. How did I get this wrong???
@@ironwill4706 I genuinely don't know bro, I just think that one riddle is really buggy. It's been super inconsistent for me across the last few playthroughs I've done. Only advice I can give is that as soon as she flies to her second location, make sure to sleep at an Inn before talking to her, so you can load back to that point from the title screen in case anything goes wrong.
i heard there were ways to fight here in the end with out making her fly away, and not useing the arrow. some say you can just attack her tail, because her pride gets hurt if you smash her face, torso or wings, something strange like that.
For te finders token I hella lucked out. I remembered the 1st token I ever found was in Melve at the top where the ballista is . 😔. also great guide

@@gamersinger5118 yes i got to try It, they can be forged as much as you like, HOWEVER they won't carry over to NG+ so their only use Is towards other players, which Is nice enough
On NG+, your Finder’s Token won’t be where you found your very first Seeker’s Token. I went there. No clue where the first ST I found in NG+ was, & not sure how this would work if you found all 240 before NG+.
Also tried to duplicate the Portcrystal again as I did in my first playthrough, but this time she gave me a ‘Partcrystal’ counterfeit. Unable to dupe the same item in NG+ as you did in your first playthrough?

She flew away on mine after i picked up last item in chest even after i shot her. Her health bar never showed up even while i was hitting her in the air now I've lost the chance to kill her and rest town save is to far back does she fly somewhere we can find her?
The moment I heard that I first heard that your first seeker’s token was important I just marked it on my map when I picked it up in a new game.

I bolted to the chest as quick as possible and then blind leaped backwards to try and grab the Sphinx as it flew away and didn’t even come close. It was already in the air by the time I got the chest open.
I'm guessing the harpy nest in the first area for the finder's Token is the most likely for a lot of people unless its actually static n its there regardless of players experience... tbh I don't remember where I got my first seekers token but I know I got the harpy nest one on my 2nd play through
Wait so you don't need a specific pawn for the father or mother you can just put anypawn there ?
If you have a port crystal in your inventory by the time she flies to the next location, yes just jump on, place a port crystal at new location, go back to the old one, grab loot and portcrystal and leave wherever, now you have a point at the next location
I watched her fly away and then the last reward was just 3 ferrystones..
I'm like damn I got 15, I needed to jump on her to place the crystal in new spot... come back to old one, waste of ferrystone, but I actually walked through the Misty Marshes, I can't get enough of that place, wish they'd have made it bigger.

Great video, the only part I was a little confused on was the “how many riddles did you do?” If you’ve done 10 riddles, should you put 10 pots and not 6?

Does the rumination timer start on a new game or on the first introduction with the sphinx?
Starts as soon as you get the clue for that particular riddle, so you can avoid taking it if you're not ready to go on the hunt yet for the token

Do pawns have to be killed to cure dragons plague or can you just revive them if they go down?
you send the extra pawns back to the stone and you have to throw your personal pawn into the brine and resurrect at the stone after.
for the fight some people say just avoid hitting her face or chest, to prevent her flying away.
Anyone else having an issue with the conviction riddle? The portcrystal is not showing up in my inventory when it gets to the delivery screen… did they nerf this?
Hello is it ok to just do the first riddle of eyes, then come back later when I’m ready to do the rest? I’m still early game, and not that far into the story but stumbled upon her and took the riddle of eyes…
Yes assuming you didn't ask her about the seeker token one, that one will start the timer but none of the others should.
Honestly though I'd get it out of the way because you're earlier on simply because it will be easier to remember where your first token is now VS later
I ran into her by accident which sucks so now I must go out to grab the finders token and come back and grab the special pawn too
I actually failed the riddle of Rumination (I recalled exactly where I found one very early on but it wasn't the right location and I knew if that wasn't right I was unlikely ever to find it) and so anyway, I have a question. I've heard conflicting reports on whether failing this riddle affects the statue count later on. One thing I've read says it doesnt affect it, but lots of guides say only put statues down for the successful riddles you've done, and that makes more sense to me. My suspicion is that people were forgetting about the Riddle of Reunion when placing statues, and so mistakenly thinking that it was counting rumination. Can anyone who, like me, were unable to locate the finders token confirm that this should NOT count towards your statue count? Thanks!

This one confuses a lot of people because though it says solved it means everyone up to that point whether you solved them or not. But to shorten this she actually gives a hint. Look at her glowing dots on the wings and count them. That is the answer!
@@gamersinger5118 I am now aware of this, but the first time I had to reload from an inn save because I decided not to count my failed Rumination. The wing thing is news to me though! Also fun bonus fact: wandering around, DAYS after I'd finished off the Sphinx, I finally, randomly came across the finder's token, still there long after the quest ended. Oh well!

You can still use it and if you decide to have a new game + multiple times you can copy the finder's token from what I have heard. It should still work.

Can you still dupe the port crystal in new game+? I'm worried it will give me gold instead as it seems port crystals don't come back in new game.
You can get more port crystals in ng+, all your placed port crystals go to your storage when you enter ng+ and you can put them down again (kinda annoying compared to DD1 where they stayed down)

@@samuelbrzyskiewicz9895 I actually haven't tested this one specifically myself but I've heard from multiple people that it's the first that you find in that ng+ run. Tokens don't repopulate so if you have all 240 already then you can never complete that chest again so I suggest getting the achievement for all riddles solved before doing that if you're a completionist
I was not able to find my finder's token. Even with the detection augment. The seekers tokens I collected were sporadic and it was impossible for me to pinpoint where I picked it up at first. I got around it by begging the heroes of steam for a donation. So if you don't want to start a fresh save from scratch, this is your only option.
So cool. Be extremely quick with the arrow. Shoot her before she teleports. This will end her boss fight and the arrow will deal no damage
She ended combat after her boss battle started and thus the unmaking arrow did not kill her. So cool really awesome.

So I actually messed up the riddle regarding the seekers token, but I got everything else right in the second part of the riddles. After getting my last reward, from completing the recollection riddle, the sphinx flew away. So now I’m confused. so I’m guessing the only way you’ll be able to fight the Sphinx is if you complete all 11 challenges.
Eternal wakestone is not worth killing the Sphinx, it's essentially just a fail safe if one is too oblivious to notice the many signs of the Dragon's Plague.
Riddle of madness is asking me to bring a parent, it's not the same as this guide

The sphinx keeps just leaving after I shoot her with the 1 shot arrow. Idk why. Acting like it does enough dmg to cause her to flee but not die

Rumination was easy for me be ause it was near the beginner area, was the one past the cyclops near the knight statue
Idk how many days I wasted after answering the riddle I had to go get the trickster ,lvl up , go to where I thought it was wasted like 3 or so days and then just did other missions I'm sure I ran out of days but still found the token at the last place I thought of lol
I love the fact they made it where the Sphinx really diesnt have a gender. Same as in its lore. It can be either male ir female depending 9n the approaching ones taste. Its super cool.
i believe the japanese voice is the same as Orochimaru from naruto, which makes this even more fitting haha

A good tip for the "how many riddles" question is to just open your Quest List, it will show all the ones you've answered, so you can just count them.
I'm lost here.. i completed all five riddles and found her again.. she asked me the riddle of recollection.. i put 6 statues on the platform and i was WRONG bytch flew away... WHAT DID I DO WRONG????

Y'all kept getting all the questions right so y'all didn't know but the reason the second time you run into her the riddles are in different order the statue Riddle was my last riddle I only got 7 right kept setting down 7 statues and she told me I was wrong. It wasn't until I sat down 9
