one of the coolest songs ever .
Edwyn is amazing. I saw him in London 2014 and someone was shouting out song names. Edwyn then explained that he had to re-learn how to sing his songs and hadn't gotten to that one yet. Edwyn was spot on and did not miss a note on any of the songs he sung that night.
Chris I agree. Listen to this track-it’s live, no overdubbing of the studio track, you can tell because the first transition of him from keyboard to guitar he fumbles a bit, he looks nervous but nerves happen when you step on stage. But the vocal was flawless!

Edwyn on Shooting Stars was comedy gold, great comic timing in his skit with the amp. Great live version of girl like you here. Brilliant artist who stood by his principles.

I loved this song in 1995. After a quick search, it turns out Edwyn Collins has survived two strokes. Wow.

Proper musician classic
First saw Edwyn [and Orange Juice] way back in the early 80's following the success of 'Rip It Up'. They were excellent and it has to be one of the best concerts I saw around that time.
Then Edwyn kinda disappeared - so I was really happy when he came over to Hong Kong [where I live] in the 1990's - probably not long after he released 'A Girl Like You'.
It was a massive hit here in Asia [I went to the Philippines for a holiday around that time and everywhere you want they were playing it!] Again, Edwyn was brilliant, but I remember he hated doing this song!
I sent this song to my best girl. There is no better ode to love!

When I first heard this song in 1995, I thought it was David Bowie singing. The melody fit and the voice on the radio had similar quality. Still a great song 30 years later.

It's subjective time! This is the "Song of the 90's," in terms of a piece that stands up for decades after. Glad it gave Edwyn the exposure he deserves.

I remember this playing on the radio during the UK summer of 1995 when I was 17 ,there was constant sun beating down for about 10 weeks solid .

Edwyn Collins was/is a class act. He was a fantastic reminder of great pop music offered B.C (Before Cowell). His work with Orange Juice, and his solo career were brilliant.
Those two strokes gravely harmed him but through his iron will and his wife's invaluable support, he managed to get back to some semblance of health.
Good luck to him. He has nothing left to prove.
