Man, this game was special. Maxed out the in-game clock on it. And did pretty much everything.

Colosseum has many issues and flaws. The Shadow Pokemon mechanics are definitely screwy (especially with how long late-game Shadow Pokemon take to purify). It does have its bouts of repetition and grinding since it is 90% battles and how levels can suddenly jump up if you're not keeping tabs on Mt. Battle and the various Colisseums. It's not animated well. It's a game that for most people you'll love or hate.
But for a small group of people with very limited time, budget, and NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE WITH THE FRANCISE, Colosseum, XD, and by extension Battle Revolution (Battle Revolution was supposed to have a full-fledged story mode just like Colosseum and XD, but Nintendo/TPC told them to rush it out the door for the console launch) ooze so much charm and personality. The darker themes and tone are just right that it doesn't end up being a cringefest like many "mature Pokemon fangames". The bosses are not only memorable for their appearance (Miror B. the GOAT) but the strategies they use in battle. The "American Frontier" theme is still something Pokemon hasn't attempted since outside of spare moments in the anime/manga. And then there is the absolute knee slapper of that OST. And I'm glad at times, the developers weren't afraid to tell you to get bent if you didn't understand deeper mechanics and strategies, especially in Colossem's Battle Mode, XD's Orre Colosseum and Battle Revolution's Round 2, showing just how complex Pokemon can be. It's also the only traditional games in the series where Double Battles take center stage. Even when considering ROMhacks and fangames, you can't get an experience like the Gamecube entries outside of the Gamecube.
Even Game Freak couldn't ignore Genius Sonority's talent as they absorbed good chunk of their talent into their company. I feel that if Genius Sonority was given the actual legroom to stretch, they really could have become a standout company, instead of relegated to a skeleton crew of people working on Pokemon shovelware until they disappear. They got screwed over by Pokemon's success as they were soon deemed to be "irrelevant" as the mainline entries started inching closer and closer to the 3D era.
Colosseum is unique and specal, which is why people want to talk about it to this day, despite it being "outdated" and that it will never see a rerelease.
