- Join the crew as we knock out the remainder of a large driveway. It's still hot out, nobody wants to show up and I'm tired of it. We are moving ahead anyway and the jobs WILL get done. Even if I have to do them alone!
Erick did show up late but he was there,plus bugs is a double triple OG gotta love bugs!!
Everybody has those days when they show up late. It's how you make it up to the rest of the guys through a hard day's work that really counts

It is very easy to learn, at least as a laborer. Figuring out the job is another thing altogether. But if your one of the people just pulling concrete its quite easy. Even finishing is quite easy to pick up. The only thing that takes years to master is the forming, design ect.

If you actually have self respect and consider yourself a hard worker you show up to work everyday and the days you're sick or have an emergency you call your boss a few hours before the starting time and tell him you won't be in and allow him time to try to find someone to cover for you. Nothing wrong with being a good worker and a respectful employee especially when you get to work for a good boss which is very rare..

This business requires more flexibility...A competent "mechanic" can make you a lot of money and make your projects look good...Which increases business. Sadly; most good or competent "mechanics" are prima donnas...They have you over a barrel...It sucks but; C'est la vie! ... Believe me; the days of just plugging in a new guy are LONNGGGGGG gone! Our kind of work can kill you or kill someone else...That can't be taken lightly.

As a 18 yo kid in 1976 I applied to everyplace I could find for a job. I was laughed at by numerous small businesses, trades etc. Over 70 handwritten applications later, I finally got a job at burger king, part time filling in for the full time. How times have changed.

Yup, not sure if Ryan was joking but he has said multiple times that Bob one of his drivers was Daryl Jrs grandpa and Daryl's dad and he also hasn't been on any of the videos since he also called out sick awhile back. Hopefully its nothing serious but no call no shows really hurt the productivity of team, especially when you can't replace them ahead of time because of the lack of communication.

I'm 21 and own a lawn care company, and I cant find anyone my age, or any older to stay at work. I needed my workers so bad today, and noone answered calls or texts. Always using excuses not to come in. Its sad. Keep your head up, brother. Like you said, keep the positive attitude. Im struggling pretty bad, and destroying myself working so hard. We just need to keep on keeping on, brother. Good luck, and stay safe.
I'd be there bright and early tbh I love outdoors workeven though I'm a girl. I don't get why people can't atleast lyk like ok your tired I get it but atleast tell me because that disappointment would lessen with some honesty . Most companies look at me and laugh because of that fact that I'm a girl 😅 but I carry my weight and lift so I'm pretty strong and have always worked with my pops outdoors and my father loves a tight lawn.
Whenever I hear an employer say he cant get people to show up ... I immediately ask what you pay and what benefits you offer ?
I know it has been happening a lot in my area. Even McDonalds is offering $20 an hour starting on a billboard outside. You see jobs being posted online for $15-$17 requiring education and years of experience and they wonder why no one is applying.

Eric deserves some slack when other people don’t show it puts stress on the whole crew, but Bugs and Boss man are grizzled veterans, they know how the handle it all, Eric might be young and strong but if he overworks himself we’re only human.
The Boss man sets the expectation since the start. As a worker you need to keep up. Or else go find a lazier job.

I work in the tree industry as climber and a worker can be x3 a regular person with drive and brains. I can't get anyone to pay me more then 35 (I have 4 years experience) and so I need to work for myself. If someone gave me the chance at 35 I'd bring in far more money. Nobody wants to pay.

You are a true inspiration! As an electrical contractor I gave up on relying on employee's. Had 2 crews going at one point nothing but headaches. I'm down to one reliable worker, ME. Luckily I can do this in my trade, if the job is bigger than just me I just pass. I really commend you, love your video's, keep up the great work! Just curious, I'm from the northeast and here we leave the edges left from the edging tools, I personally like the look just wondering why you guys smooth them out/ eliminate them.

I love your channel, work, and work ethic. i own and operate an auto body shop and i feel your pain with this one. I went through this same phase several years ago and now I'm just doing it solo. ill probably never really grow as a business but I've been burned too many times by employees that I'm not even interested any more.

When others see guys not showing up and getting away with it they will try it as well
the very hard part of owning a business. Finding that happy medium of when to make an example of someone and letting them go and being an understanding boss and caring for your employees. The bottom line is business and not letting anyone jeopardizing your success while also not being a "bad boss".
That’s exactly what I was saying. You’re spot on. He sees other guys constantly get away with it so he does it once and everyone is acting like Eric is a terrible employee. Maybe Ryan should get mad at the Deryls for setting the example for Eric.
What are they "getting away with"? Are they on salary? I doubt it! Vast majority of employers that have chronic issues with employees not showing up are paying very low hourly rates.
Pay rate, overtime pay, benefits, a real chance of future raises, profit sharing/bonuses, instilling a sense of future growth. It's all part of the game.

So question: do you reprimand the employees when they pull these no shows ( dock their pay, refuse future raises, etc ). Or do you worry that they will just quit on you permanently…..I have a crew myself that play these games….just wondering what your approach is. I think the worst thing an employer can do is accept this kind of behavior….it’s unfair to the other employees, unfair to the company and unfair to the client. Great vid and I applaud you for keeping that positive attitude throughout.
My old concrete crew would get arrested on jobs and smoke crack in the work truck. First job on the books when I was 16. O the stories I could tell ya. 🙄

construction workers don't get paid enough, the massive risks they take using things like circular saws, or the intense labor they do, and they get paid the same as a 1970s convenience store worker adjusted for inflation. that's not the bosses' fault though, obviously. He doesn't get paid enough either, nobody does. all the money goes to the corporations with their warranty conditions, and the politicians with their "regulations" (money laundering schemes).
Glad to see your son got to help and Eric showed up. I'm sure Eric might of helped on a side job after a work day and just burnt out. Life of a finisher always work after work on a side job or help other guys for some extra cash. The older you get the faster it gets old chasing that extra money...

2:43 as experience I can share that as owners we push employees away by being open field friends with them because it's a versatile concept to manage that being said it's unclear how to preserve other siblings feelings...employees hold tons of emotions I'm sure because we are a symbol of employment..but as business owners I admit it's best by the book ..my experience..the younger the employees the more to learn about this matter. The older we'll it's more old school type you know ..old school will be classic one day my hat off to the ones I've met ..
