- Join the concrete crew as we pour and finish a nice driveway for a good customer. It started to rain a bit on us but thankfully it stoped just in time and the job turned out great. I got a phone call from a previous customer that was NOT happy at all and suggested I get rid of my guys!
7 children at home and 7 more at work.

I feel like the reason anyone new that shows up doesn't stay is because they can see the dumpster fire from day one. No one with competence would want to work with any of these guys other than Ryan.

It's sad that the boss has to continually babysit his employees and tell them to do things every single time when they should already know what they are supposed to do.
i dunno the exact situation here, but in general, alot of business owners of buisnesses like this try to make it work with a crew full of rookies and incompetents so they can pay them less....and it always shows. This has been the deal at several electrician businesses i have worked for. And its like they never learn....pay extra for a couple competent guys that really know what they are doing and it goes a long way.
He doesn't though. They're a decent crew that does good work and have a good time while doing it.

Ryan really needs a guy like he used to have in Mike. He may have just been learning about concrete when he was there, but he was very conscientious when it came to being responsible with equipment and tools and how to leave a job for a customer.
All of these guys are only there for a paycheck. They definitely lack in the how to treat a customer and respect their property department. Most of them are too much in a hurry to go get side work dome, I can only imagine the work their doing there when they gotta be told how and what to do constantly
But he runs his own business now.

@@Tundraoutdoors One of the problems is that when the day is “done” they go right home. They don’t have a quitting time. The day isn’t done until all tasks are finished. If you are responsible for a vehicle the day isn’t done until that vehicle is ready for its next usage. With a dump truck that means a clean bed. If it’s always carrying the same material, no big deal if there is some left over product in the bed. If you’re moving topsoil, you need to make sure there’s nothing that’s going to ruin the quality of the finished job. The other problem is that when they applied the topsoil they left gravel in the finished job. That’s unacceptable. I’m really surprised because they usually do good finish work.
I agree the guys had to see the rock mixed in with the topsoil. If there is rock mixed with topsoil every time it rains it exposes more and more rock to the surface. But with all that said I think it still comes down to laziness.

I fully agree about paying them a bonus to show up is wrong. I’ve never had a job where if you don’t show up you are no longer employed. The incentive to show up is the pay check.
The issue is finding someone to replace them is not easy Ryan has been trying to hire a extra finisher all summer still no luck .

I see a lot of people blaming Big Ray for the stones in the top soil, and obviously he's to blame, once again, but the other guys are also to blame because they for sure saw the stones in the dirt but they didn't do anything, they just did the job and left. None of them care, they just want a check and free food. I been doing construction work for 30 plus years and yes you done a good job on the concrete drive way... The customer isnt always right and some can go over board... Some times mistakes happen. As long you make it right is all that matters
30 years of this kind of work isn’t a easy task. How is your body holding up? I was a chef for over twenty years working basically all the time and some days would sleep at work if I was working in a hotel at the time. I actually did live at work for seven months one year. Free room and board so I took advantage of it to save money. Doing that work wears most down but I am still in good shape. Doing construction is a whole different beast and I have a lot of respect for those that do it and even more the ones that take pride in their work and go the extra mile for as close to perfection as possible.

You can't fire someone for being mentally challenged, especially if they have medical documentation when they fill the application, it's grounds for a lawsuit.
I'm a supervisor at my job and have three nuero-divergent employees, I can't just fire them when they mess up.

Exactly! Ryan you have no right to disrespect a customer that paid for a professional job and has a reasonable issue with the quality, especially since he still holds the check. Had it been me I would have said fix it right then I'll pay! A stone picked up by a mower can cause a lot of damage to windows, parked cars, heaven forbid if it hit a person. I am amazed that instead of questioning the crew first you called the man to confront his issue, sight unseen. Why not drive by after the email he sent to check it out yourself, or ask for pictures? Finally I wonder why you didn't offer to stop by that afternoon, but choose to build fireworks stands instead? I have watched other concrete UA-camrs that cut the sod back before setting the forms and when they finish, replace the sod. Piece of advise, let Mike contract with you to fill in these areas and reseed at least you know it would not be half dirt and half gravel.
That's one of Ryan's worst traits.. He gets so defensive with people he should NOT be getting an attitude with like customers and city inspectors. Like Boss, your guys messed up that guy's yard, and it was not left in a "completed" state that you agreed to in your service contract. Why don't you try and raise your voice with your employees instead of customers next time lol

@@Cody.Wright All I said was their concerns were valid. But in the video they said that the lazy employees didn’t take rocks out of the truck from another job and just put the good topsoil on top of them. So, there is actually rocks in the customers topsoil.

Ryan can’t even leave these guys for a day. Just pure laziness not checking the truck before getting a load of soil. Never any repercussions and they’re spoiled with lunch and bonuses etc that they never even try to pay or do extra for Ryan.

Tbh I’ve watched for quite a while and ray just never learns from his mistakes. You can give so many chances/ opportunities to learn until it’s just the person..
He gets rewarded for his lack of care. Did not clean the dump truck, leads to a customer complaint and he gets rewarded with lunch. The other employees see that and figure why should they care.
