Hi Dereck! Thanks for your react on Johnny Hallyday. This song "Marie" is one of Johnny's greatest hits of the 2000's, released on October 21, 2002 and from his album A La Vie, A La Mort! released on November 4, 2002.
It is also one of the biggest sales of Johnny in terms of single: 1,4 million copies, no.1 for 3 weeks, but also a radio title of the year 2002. Even a radio for teens NRJ played it on its airwaves while Johnny isn't even one of the artists of this one! Thanks to this song, he gained a "younger" audience.
The music video, Johnny plays the role of a soldier during the war. Feeling that his end is near, he decides to write a last letter to his beloved named Marie. Unfortunately for him and especially her, he passes away.

@François vocalement, je préfère le Johnny de la fin des années 60 et des années 70. Et il y avait de très bonnes choses avec Mick Jones (futur Foreigner).
@François Si je l'aime bien! Tout comme toi, j'aime aussi sa période 80's (Goldman, Berger, mais plus Goldman pour l'album), mais je dois dire que même si je n'aime pas tout (pas trop "fan des 60's ou 70's même s'il y a eu de belles chansons), faut reconnaître tout de même qu'il a su se "réinventer" à chaque fois, rebondir même si comme tout chanteur y'a des périodes de "creux", s'entourer des meilleurs compositeurs du moment après chaque album, changeant de style à chaque fois même s'il revient assez souvent sur un style particulier comme le blues (il l'a toujours dit, c'est pour ça que l'album avant sa mort y fait référence).
Faut dire qu'il n'y a pas beaucoup de son genre à l'avoir fait, il a toujours su rester "moderne", alors que d'autre étaient "rococos".
Comme Mylène, ce sont des "piliers", des valeurs sûres, peut-être différents, mais des "monstres" de scène et qui ont su "renouveler" leur public.

sorry if you don't like these songs i can understand more if you are english you cannot understand the lyrics and therefore all their charm however these songs are not old people's songs but on the contrary for people who like subtlety and beauty of the texts
