More of these restoration/repair content please , especially since you got quite a lot of HO locomotive from mail that need some repair and i look forward to that , also hoping to see super super chief pulling super long train again
I would add this: A TRAIN OF DELIGHTS. It is interesting how you can take a locomotive in disrepair for years and make it happy again. You videos are fun and intelegent to watch. I have had one O scale train and that is about it; but, I have learned so much watching your work that I am beginning to understand how these engines and trains work. I have a son who turns 50 this December who has a really neat N scale lay out. I have always enjoyed watching him play with his trains and since I have been watching your videos, I understand why he is so delighted with his layout. Keep up the fon and intresting videos Harrisom, they are the best I have seen.
The 2007-era Life Like GP38-2 High Hood was produced around the time Walthers acquired the Life-Like branding, also the GS4's faceplate is the smokebox door
7 videos in one are very impressive and with a crazy run at the end. With the repairs and video editing that 30-minute video took about 5 to 6 hours. Great stuff, Jersey Bill
Nice to see everything running again! I like the format of restoring a collection of engines in a single video, especially considering the amount of projects you have. It would be cool to have an even longer video with a similar concept, or even building up an entire train (engines and cars, similar to what you did with your Amtrak set but with the engines) in a single video like this. I had a switcher with similar gearing upgrades, and I got rid of mine simply because I wasn’t a fan of the slow speed. I’ve been told the upgrade was an ernst gear upgrade, and yours seems really similar. I also like the repair on the life like truck, I’ve had the issue before and have never found a good solution. I might have to try your idea out next time I encounter another.
The high hood is a GP38-2 - Southern Railway(later Norfolk Southern) is the only major North American railroad ordered with that unique feature(low hoods were the norm at that time)
It's amazing how you fix locomotives. It's also amazing how some people can't take care of them. I treat mine with the utmost care package well when not in use.
The Athearn SW probably has Enrst reduction gearing. It was an aftermarket kit to give it the slow speed. I put one in my GP-9 and tookit out. Too slow. Works in an SW. That AHM has the same issues they all do. The front truck breaks off too easily, and it's a HORRIFIC model of a C-Liner. The Proto 1000 is miles above it. Edit: I've watched you pull many locomotives back from the grave but your work on that Daylight was outstanding. Kudos!!
YOOOOO IT'S A ATHEARN BLUEBOX DAYLIGHT! I got one myself in fact I am the one who was talking about it and it's pulling power a few streams back 😁Great video SMT
At first I had assumed the Daylight was a old split chassis pancake-motor (Or a Bachmann Plus, at best) since they're so problematic, safe to say, I was caught off guard when I saw the plug in the tender. Great video, as always.
Quite the assortment and quite the interesting fixes! I recently got back into model railroading in no small part thanks to your videos and recently bought a small lot of HO locomotives, most of which have had examples featured on your channel! (2 Life-Like F40PHs, a Tyco F unit and two 90s Bachmann F units) It was quite the simple task getting them running as I was already familiar with the mechanisms involved. Shortly after buying that first lot I managed to come across someone selling a whole bachmann overland limited set for super cheap! It seems to be usin' the same mechanism as the GS4 there, although it doesn't have any fancy features, or even a tender with electrical pickup. Sure does look nice runnin' down the track though!
Great video as always. I got to say something about the blue box locos. If you replace the gears with the new gears that they make they have some type of plastic near the area where they usually split which prevents that from happening again. Also I noticed when the drive shaft fell apart, I had the same thing hapen on mine. I replaced it with a product from A-line number 12030 - Universal Joints & Coupling Assortment. Because they are so hard to come by. Using the ethernet cable to replace the wiring on that daylight was using the ethernet cable to replace the wiring on that daylight was by far amazing. Great MacGyvering
Speaking of Hobbytowns, I’m still sorting out some shorts in my new e7 (soon to be an e1), but at least it has the Dc-91, weighs 900 grams +, and I’ll be making the truck sprung to improve the ride. Great job Harrison.
i got a new steam loco ho scale yesterday it was suspiciously cheep and then i took it home and turns out it has metal wheels so it shorts out my new layout
You did a very nice job especially on the daylight .the wirs are a bit stiff . You can get 30 gauge really flexible stuff all different colors on Amazon that work great. Again very impressive.
@SMTMainline they are super flexible so less likely to snap from moving I use it in all my stuff. I used it on the smt berkshire. I put the wires to a 6 pin pug by leaving thicker wire at the plug but cutting them different lengths and soldering the flexible wire and shrink tubing.
Any modern DC controller should do. N scale locomotives don't draw as much current as ho models but they use the same controller meaning it doesn't have to be as powerful to run everything.
That athern up switcher i have two of almost the exact same thing, but in santa fe blue, and one is in perfect working order, it runs so smooth, and has all its handrails and everything, and the other, is missing every hand rail, and a few other things, and its wired backwards and has no fly wheels like the other, but it runs fine, just backwards
I think Tyco did include them on some of its older models and then quit to save money. I don't think the ones that did had them attached out of the box.
I Harrison. I wanted to tell you that next week me and my family are taking a trip to california. And my grandpa is talking me to Milepost 38 toy trains who do O and G scale trains and Arnies trains who do N and Ho scale. I am visiting them both because they are right next door to each other.
I have that same bachmann GS4. One day it just quit on me while using DC. It's gettinf power since the headlight comes on, but the motor is seized or something. Wish I could get it back up and working
Hey smt about that athearn I fixed it, it was just a simple axle that needed to be put back in place, but looked at that video of you fixing that athearn what 3 years ago I think, and thank you for teaching me how to take off the shell😊
I have that same Athern switcher, and although I love the style of the Atherns I find they weirdly run for a lap then short out, any ideas about that problem would be appreciated
With a working Southern Pacific daylight now you can recreate the famous profile picture that you have for your channel and if you can get some Southern Pacific Passenger cars then you can try and recreate the famous train that was on VHS and on UA-cam
I also have a project locomotive myself looks like an old western steam locomotive it seen better days some type a grime all over the top of it and it’s missing its drive shaft which appears to be gone somewheres else.. it’s a tender driven locomotive. And I have another steam locomotive by Tyco from 1980s
My man…. As for the “noisy” engines, I find the louder the better! I have a MANTUA 4-6-0 GOAT, loud as a blender since I got it like 20+ years ago. Runs like a champ, just loud, but so are IRL engines!
When will the give away start? Also, I just did a custom CNW b unit. Not the prettiest, but its nice. Question to anyone, do you think AHM passenger cars are good? I want to get some CNW.
More of these restoration/repair content please , especially since you got quite a lot of HO locomotive from mail that need some repair and i look forward to that , also hoping to see super super chief pulling super long train again
There is more planned.
Nice repair job's. You have a mastered skill. Self tapping screws, soldering iron, wheel distance gauge. Awesome!
Whatever gets the job done right?
You did a good job, Harrison! I'm impressed to see those little guys get up and running again.
Nice to see that daylight working again
The daylight stand out to me, more than other steam engines.
AGREED
@@B.E.E.F..B.O.S.S I own Bachmann Dcc on board The American freedom Train #4449 works very well.
Mine has the same problem. I don’t even wanna try to fix it myself.
A whole "train" of repairs in one video? Excellent idea Harrison! Btw, pun 101% intended.
Serenity, we have multiple runners! Cheers from eastern TN
I really like the UP swither and love the slow speed operation =====Im really amazed with what you did with the GS-4
Good job in repair you locomotives.
You 🐱 is friend of my dog Scooby Doo.

Interesting repair video, SMT!
I love that daylight, wish I had one. Great job fixing all of them!
Great job rewiring the Bachman...I really enjoyed seeing the locos on the track together at the video end. Thanks for sharing this with us 😎👍
Thank you very much!
Hi SMT Mainline & it's is Randy and i like yours Cool & Thanks SMT Mainline & Friends Randy
what a project smt! great job on getting all these glories back on the tracks once again!
Nice job always fun watching you repair old locomotives!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wow 🤩 super great seeing all of those fixed and running really nicely 👍 Amazing troubleshooting skills you have 👌
Thank you!
The 2007-era Life Like GP38-2 High Hood was produced around the time Walthers acquired the Life-Like branding, also the GS4's faceplate is the smokebox door
The AHM C-Liner's 5-pole motor also has an oil wick on the top for lubricantion
Dude! You are an absolute genius!!!!! The fix on the GS-4 was brilliant! In fact....pretty much ALL of them were!!! NICE JOB!!!!
Thanks, its a solution I've never tried before.
7 videos in one are very impressive and with a crazy run at the end. With the repairs and video editing that 30-minute video took about 5 to 6 hours. Great stuff, Jersey Bill
Thanks. It took quite a bit of editing to condense this down to a reasonable amount.
All engines components: 👼
Daylight components: 💀
Make acquired 7 of 7.
just impressive!
Love the end where they're all running together. You are the Coolest Dude.

That's a huge benefit. Its almost like speed running repairs, which is good considering some don't need as much as others.
I definitely like the longer smt videos. They have always been so relaxing especially after a long day of work
I really enjoy watching you fixing these things up. You are really good with the narration about what you are doing.
Thank you, I really appreciate hearing that :)
I watch your videos everyday
Another, awesome watch. Thanks. Your channel is definitely one of my favs. This one specially will be good for me. Thanks again SMT 😊
Hello SMT mainline how are you doing friend you are so amazing fixing old locomotives
Good, how are you?
I"VE BEEN WAITING FOR THE DAYLIGHT FOR SO LONG😭😭😭😭😭😭
The high hood is a GP38-2 - Southern Railway(later Norfolk Southern) is the only major North American railroad ordered with that unique feature(low hoods were the norm at that time)
Excellent video…thanks for sharing…
Very cool to see you fix so many locomotives in one video. Great content as always!
It's amazing how you fix locomotives. It's also amazing how some people can't take care of them. I treat mine with the utmost care package well when not in use.
Thanks. To be fair some of these are 50 years old so with that in mind I think they held up pretty well.
Running DC and DCC at the same time. How cool is that! Kids don’t try this at home.
Yep, I should make a video on how to wire that.
Another successful project done SMT
The Athearn SW probably has Enrst reduction gearing. It was an aftermarket kit to give it the slow speed. I put one in my GP-9 and tookit out. Too slow. Works in an SW.

Nice work on these ho scale locomotives!
Nice job repairing all of those engines and getting them back in service, also nice parade of trains at the end!
YOOOOO IT'S A ATHEARN BLUEBOX DAYLIGHT! I got one myself in fact I am the one who was talking about it and it's pulling power a few streams back 😁Great video SMT
The screw to hold the truck on the 3560 was genius
Thank you so much!
At first I had assumed the Daylight was a old split chassis pancake-motor (Or a Bachmann Plus, at best) since they're so problematic, safe to say, I was caught off guard when I saw the plug in the tender.
Great video, as always.
It surprised me too. The modern ones aren't flawless but certainly more reliable than what they used to make.
Awesome video. Nice work. You are an inspiration to all.
Thanks
Rich
I appreciate that!
You're always with these things!
Harrison you are truely a magician
Always watch your videos even your commercials haha
Thank you so much!
I noticed you forgot to say it, so I'll say it for you... SERENITY!!
That's true!

ANd again, you showed me a simple way to fix those cheap life like trucks that brake so easy.... thanks for the advice man!!
Glad to help. It seems to be a common issue with these life likes.
Keep Rocking on those Trains Harrison. If Someone Were To Deliver A Trailer Full Of Broken Or Fixable Trains You would Have Them Do No Problems.
I think I'd be overwhelmed

Gotta love how friendly they are for modification, I'm sure with all the diecast parts it will pull well too.
Great video

SMTs got the midus touch! 😊

I swear, you can get a model with hardly anything remaining from it, and SMT will always (somehow) get it to work.
Very impressive skill set and work ethics
Thank you!
Finding a Tyco C430 with handrails is something of a rarity. Often, they are never found since Tyco offered them as a separate item.
I think Tyco did include them on some of its older models and then quit to save money. I don't think the ones that did had them attached out of the box.
Nice video!
Nicely done. That daylight has a tsunami in it, you should be able to adjust the chuff rate to match the wheels.
Is that done by changing the cvs?
Another sweet haul!
Thanks for watching
WOW, good job...I have 3-4 HO Bocmann Overland locomotive to fix one day
Awesome 👍🏻
Great video, what were you using to clean the wheels?
I Harrison. I wanted to tell you that next week me and my family are taking a trip to california. And my grandpa is talking me to Milepost 38 toy trains who do O and G scale trains and Arnies trains who do N and Ho scale. I am visiting them both because they are right next door to each other.
I haven't been to M38 but have hear great things about it. I did go to Arnies trains in 2013 and liked it a lot.
Can you please tell me what is the name of the cleaning pen you use to clean commutators
Its a fibreglass pencil.
Looks like you could easily pass 100mbit between the Bachman and its tender haha. Network cabling would have been my first thought too!
I always wanted a GS4 I could bring to Lan parties lol
You are the man. Is there any loco you can't fix? I think not. Another nice vid. Thanks. From Texas.
I have that same bachmann GS4. One day it just quit on me while using DC. It's gettinf power since the headlight comes on, but the motor is seized or something. Wish I could get it back up and working
@SMTMainLine you need to get a Marquette rail locomotive for your hi scale layout
Hey smt about that athearn I fixed it, it was just a simple axle that needed to be put back in place, but looked at that video of you fixing that athearn what 3 years ago I think, and thank you for teaching me how to take off the shell😊

Good to see you’re still fixing trains. Have you gotten a silver play button yet ?
Hey, how have you been? I got the button!
Great video amazing skills. You should be a watch master also!
Thank you!
How u been? Wow that's some very great work there man, they all were runners.
What oil and grease do you use?
Labelle 106 and 102.
Great Video! Question- what is the history behind that static PRR 0-4-0 on your layout?
Its one of my Dad's locomotives. It didn't run for many years ago so it was put on display - it should be restored properly soon.
@@SMTMainline very cool!
Well done congrats
