Thank you to everyone who helped me with their Halloween song, for some reason my brain saw Hellfire as a Disney cover and not so much a Halloween song😅
Whiskey in the Jar is a song about a notorious Irish highwayman Patrick Fleming who was hanged in 1650, has become one of Ireland’s most beloved songs, a true rebel air that stirs the passions. This song has been covered by Thin Lizzi and Metallica and many others. This is so beautiful. When it came out on Patreon, I had to some research on it, but I love how they made it their own and still showed respect for the original.
Geoff released one himself. "Jack's lament" from Nightmare before Christmas. It is creepy and fantastic. This video is done so well. I believe it is probably in my top ten of their songs for me... and that is saying a lot!
Cheers to VP taking a VERY old song that has been covered a million times and making it their own! A complete u-turn of what they have been doing lately - and that is why we love them 😋. What a year 2023 has been for them. Thanks for the lovely reaction. 🥃🥃
VP did Hellfire for Halloween. J had limited time he could be there for filming, so it was a scaled back production. Geoff did Jack’s Lament which was a full production.
This is an old Irish folk song from the 1600s. Covered by many artists including Metallica, Thin Lizzy and Dubliners. Their Halloween video was Hellfire. They have a lot going on so they had to keep it simple.
As some already said, VP's main Halloween song was Hellfire. If I had to guess, they couldn't be as productive as usually since Geoff and Kathy both caught Covid right around that time and that brought the whole production to a sudden halt. They lost like 2 weeks or so and were scrambling to shoot both this one and Hellfire, too.
They released Hellfire as their Halloween month video. It's not their typical Halloween extravaganza so I understand why you felt that way. Great reaction!!
Repeating some of what has been said to Hellfire being the Halloween offering this year, Geoff and Kathy having covid, J having a limited time frame - all facts that complicated things. Add to that the preparation for two live shows in less than two weeks where they're performing with the band Chicago..... yeah. I'm happy with what they've given us. 😊
This is such a departure from their other songs, it's taken a bit for this to really grow on me, but the singing is so gorgeous! While this isn't my favorite, I really don't think Voiceplay could do a bad job on any song!
Eli does a lot of character voices and has a lot of singing styles at his disposal, but the Gritty Rock version he's been developing is definitely a favorite, just so refined and perfect. The beard is just spot on, too. Anyway, I've heard probably six or seven versions of this song before VoicePlay's, and I really never liked it that much until now. They don't disappoint.
Hellfire was VoicePlay's Hallowe'en release this year (Geoff's being Jack's Lament). This is a traditional Irish folksong about a highway man robbing a military officer and being betrayed by the woman he loves, ending up in jail. The "musha" word is the actually the Irish word "muise" and is an exclamation of "well" or "indeed," and is followed by the Irish equivalent of scat singing - it's all nonsense verbiage. "Whack for my daddy-o" would be said while holding up the jar of whiskey, essentially saying "Here's a shot for me" Geoff sings a beautiful F1 chest note in this one!. And yes, this was shot at PattyCake - it's the same wall that was behind Geoff's White Christmas and SHenandoah.
This song goes back to early to mid 1600s so this may not sound like Metallica. The Halloween videos were Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame) and Geoff's was Jack's Lament which is gorgeous. This background was used in Geoff's Christmas song last year..
Did you catch Geoff's version of 'Jack's Lament' from The Nightmare Before Christmas?....a solo from him, done very , very well....good to see you back..>^^
VoicePlay has to be at the tip top of everyone's a Cappella listens. I don't really understand how they keep finding freshness in their arrangements and enhancing the quality of their vocals. I wasn't familiar with this piece and have a feeling that VoicePlay has ruined it for me to hear any other cover (ruined it in the best of ways.)

I TOTALLY agree about Cesar, he's such a great member of this group, and he's such a saucy and sassy guy!

I loved this one. The arrangement's so smooth. At the moment, regardless of what they do, it's just really, really good.
I heard it by the Dubliners back in 1967 was only 13. Tin Lizzy did it in 1973 I was 19 by then. So way before Metalic covered it.
this was so different from the other versions I’ve heard it was amazing! ❤🏴
I agree with many others that this version is now my favorite. Thank you for reacting to this!
They never seem to miss. THANK YOU with another great reaction.
Geoff did “Jack’s Lament” & Voiceplay did “Hellfire” for Halloween this year. Both fabulous!
The group released Hellfire for Halloween, and Geoff himself released Jack's Lament.

you watched voiceplays cover of hellfire which was for Halloween but not Geoff's cover of jacks lament
He did do Jack's Lament, it's among his videos for last month.
Geoff and Kathy both had covid and it threw the schedule off for Halloween. (They're fine now).
Geoff did Jack's Lament for Halloween
and yes that was Pattycake
