I live near the Kenworth factory, done three factory tours over thirty years, the place is so clean! The previous chief engineer was very approachable when it came to answering questions over the phone. An interesting fact is that they were importing the 610 cabs from the USA, and they had to be reinforced for Aussie conditions at the Bayswater factory, now apparently they have their own cab building machine. One reason they are building these one-piece cabs is that they are cheaper to build than the traditional Huck-bolted T and C series cabs. Kenworths are very expensive even though they are #1 seller for heavy duty trucks in Australia. We were told that to stay competitive in the lighter segment they had to build the newer one-piece cabs as well as the traditional built-up cabs for the T9s and C5s.
I've driven the paccar mx13 510 motor in both an auto DAF and two separate Kenworths with 18 speed road rangers. I definitely think the 18 speed road ranger is the way to go. I'd prefer a 550 c15 all day of the week though.
Excellent review video. Long enough to cover many aspects. Nicely objective, pointing out negative parts of the truck. This is helps people when looking at purchasing a truck. Well done
Thanks for video. Great footage. I really think they should put airbag on the steer to act like a shock, like the new paccar peterbilts would be great. Australian roads are rough and as a driver we feel every every formation and every fault of the road. A truck needs to be powerful enough not to be a hazard , comfortable to drive, all instruments and guages easily in view, accessories easily accessible, no wind noise and good fuel efficiency. Every kw I have driven is like a old LNT 9000 suspension in the front and steer when driving If she can do this maybe her new kenworth will be a legend.
Would have liked to seen a walk-in sleeper, Yes I know the SAR would not be right but for us old blokes we need to be able to stand up Unless that cap is taller than what it looks in the video??
Gotta be the best info in the transport industry love how you used Bonnie Doon during part of the interview the kenworth engineer great work keep it up 👍
@@gremmie666 not in logging operations autos don’t last and they always pick too low gear on steep hill climbs, where a manual with a driver that knows the tricks to quick smooth changes on steep hills grabs the higher gear and leaves the autos in the dust.
Over the years, I've done casual, on call work for a small transport business here in Perth. It's mostly yard work, operating the forklift, loading, unloading, tarping, strapping, chaining down etc. But what really got me the job was the fact that the boss had an old Mack B61 that he used to ferry trailers out to the road train park at Bullsbrook - and I could drive it! It was a common occurrence for me drive into the park-up area in that old Mack and have young blokes come out of their trucks with their fancy-schmancy auto gearboxes, all agog at the twin stick, quad box setup. Whether it be road transport or earth moving, I have long believed that the best drivers and operators are the ones who learned their craft in or on some old busted-arse heap of shit of a truck or machine. It's an education that can't be taught if everything you do is monitored by sensors and light displays and all of the other high-tech gadgetry we have now. The best monitors in any truck or machine are the ones on the side of your head. They're called ears and that's what the best of the old timers used. You learn to listen to your machine!
The thing I quite dislike is the weather shield across 410, 610, 410sar, 610sar, because they are so small and doesn’t really allow you to open any window when raining…
I hate kws, but the new 610/410 is a huge step up from the older models and the k200. Im still yet to figure out why the still make cabs narrower than a standard trailer.
I like the classic interior I mean I hope kenworth doesn’t get rid of the sar model because it still have the classic look to it was Australians like And what’s with kenworth getting rid of the k200
gotta love it ... brings out a brand new truck and has not addressed any blind spot issues . no extra mirrors or side cams like the euro trucks ... dare say a Digi tacho is still considered witchcraft ... Australia still 20 years behind the rest of the world
@@denysmith9469 yes sir... I pulled 1/2 the passenger dash out and replaced Blower, filter & something else (possibly condenser) still shit. Truck gone now, replaced with New Volvo, cold as Fark boy.
The engineers are relatively useless. They just shove stuff in and don't talk to the workers whether it's a good idea or not and then when they're told it's a bad idea, they just run away and hide in the office avoiding them. Hell to even get the ball rolling on making a change to something simple takes years. Prime example is a new stainless coolant pipe was added to the cummins, it took them 3 years for a simple pipe....... Just useless
Too bad it's not like it used to be ,where you could pick the engines you wanted. No Detroit Diesel 60 series, no Caterpillars. Obviously you won't see a Detroit in any other trucks except the American truck companies that Damiler-Benz owns, Freightliner & WesternStar.I think Cat actually got out of the truck engine business because of trying to meet emissions standards. They stopped making their own road trucks. If I remember the article correctly, the engine in those trucks wasn't a Cat but an International!
The entire CAT truck was a rebranded international. CAT pulled out of Kenworth because of their own truck and then when it inevitably failed, tried to come back and Kenworth refused
Old man’s truck 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽

The Kenworth diamond quilted interior-Legendary😊😊

Gaining acceptance... because it's the only option???
In Europe Paccar use the 12 speed Traxon automated gearbox in their DAF trucks, but not in Kenworths in USA or Australia, why the difference?
Maybe they are the same? I don’t know. The MX13 is basically a DAF engine.
@@gm16v149 the Traxon is made by ZF, the gearbox ford to Kenworths is an Eaton
Well there you have it Steve you are the "Legend" Cheer's from the States.
That 13 litre isn't a bad engine, made for fuel mileage not a bad till you load it down. Remember there's no replacement for displacement.
Thanks for video.

It’s sad that it’s hard to find drivers theses days, that can drive manual boxes, hence why companies go for auto gear boxes.
Auto boxes are used as they are far better at changing gears, lack of competent drivers is not the reason just the computers do it better.

We went to all auto since it removes driver error as a possibility.
And the autos are far superior these days anyway.
Looking forward great 👍 truck kenwork in Australia 🇦🇺

Why so much exhaust filtration?
Emissions.
I know but they all on European trucks, never seen them on a good ol kenny.
Do the T410sar’s not have the option to have external air cleaners? Would look more like proper SAR with air cleaners in my opinion.
No external air cleaner option
Wonder if this one fits under the bridge at taralgon ??
Lake Eildon??
He went up the Slide, so it would be Lake Eildon.
Thankyou gm16v...wooden pylon bridge over the water looks very nice.
Its called a bonnet NOT a hood!
Why didn’t they put the ZF 16 speed auto like the DAF its a much better box the the 12 speed ,also the DAF as 530 hp .
Eaton 18 speed options in both auto and manual so no need I guess.
Is it just me or was her nose growing when she was talking about the drivetrain

Camel spring suspension

Great trucks if only the air-conditioners worked. Had nothing but issues up in the Kimberleys.
Have a go at changing the air con filter mate..see if that works

In short daf engine and transmission under body of ken worth....
510 hp DAF with 12 speed
The paccar auto isn't even paccar, developed by Eaton
I always wondered, how come we never got the greatest Kenworth ever made the iconic W900?
They did the Legend 900 not that long ago
We did get the W series until about 40-odd years ago when they were succeeded by the T900
Kenworth have lost it . I’d like to see all these engineers spend at least one week/6000klm in one and see what it’s like to live like a hermit crab

Drive a 410 every day. It's honestly garbage.
Yep, kW lost the plot with these models.
I'm driving a 610 now and I hate it, worst kW I've ever driven

Daf zf 12 speed ya mean

The nose trucks is a dying breed in Australia. I like the shape very much . I will prefer this over the comfort of volvo
DAF have always been shit in the uk!
Australian Trucks, look so weird due stupid lenght regulations, just because of favor of the european designed trucks
