the exchange rate thing is so real! I got my current main clarinet from Japan, a model only sold in Japan (Yamaha YCL-853) for less than US $1000. Considering similar custom SE models available in the US are like $3000 used, it's a solid deal.
That's awesome! What grades and how does it go? I'd love to try a class set up with something like a jSax or venova. jSax seems quite a bit easier to play out of the two.
@@MadMusicBand JSax is definitely more intuitive for the younger ones. I've taught JSax from UK school years 3-6 (which I believe is US Grades 2-5) and trialled Venova in UK years 4 and 5. I reckon Venova is better suited as a progression instrument as the fact that it's not designed as an instrument for the younger ones is quite clear although I enjoyed teaching it! JSax works really well in a whole class setting and the children mostly get on really well with it. :)
Haha cool! Glad you had a good time. I believe there _are_ relatively cheap shamisen, but you're probably not going to find one in a fancy handmade store, or a store in a touristy area. They also make cheap ones for students and young people who are just getting started, that would be what to look for in the future.
I play tuba. I don’t play trombone (not professionally). I would be terrible on the otamatone. I could play the Kirby one because that one doesn’t need skill.

I’m getting my clarinet soon and really excited!👏👏👏
That's awesome! Let me know how it goes 🙂
@@MadMusicBand ok I will!
As a saxophonist who was gifted a venova a couple years ago, I struggle with it too. Don’t feel too bad. Lol
Ha, thanks! I thought it'd be easier, I'm sure there's something I can do to make it work a bit better, I'm going to keep workshopping it.

Yup, I bought a lot of stuff while there and every time I felt like I was getting the deal of a lifetime.
I was really interested to see the Venova - I’ve just finished trialling teaching Venova to classes of 25-30 in the UK!!
Last time I went to japan I got a pair of cherry wood drumsticks for about 15 bucks 😁, dont remember where I got them though
I should have bought a pair but didn't run into anything out of the ordinary worth getting.
I also teach whole class JSax!!!

@@EmsJ1976 that's awesome, thank you for the info! Maybe there will be some grant writing in my future to see if I can get a class full of jSaxs :)

Thanks! We had the time of our lives :)
Loved the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
For the next cheap Instrument video you should try to find a cheap sax

ThatSaxophone solo was awesome

Yea I saw a couple videos of the cheaper ones and was hoping to run into one but never did. I should have checked out where to get them in advance.
17:17 LEO PELLEGRINOOOOOOO
Ha, it was wild seeing him pop up out of the blue to greet me.

Now that I think about it, I play violin. Maybe I would be okay.
I'm sure it would help!
Was that a Leo p cardboard cutout!!??? (The guy with pink hair in guitar street)
It was 😂
I need the hatsune miku tamatone
If there wasn't a Kirby I'd have probably gotten that one 😂
@@MadMusicBand I do love me some hatsune miku
I don’t know what to say so nice
