About Lakemba Night Markets:
During the Islamic holiday of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. But once the sun sets, iftar begins - a fast-breaking feast that runs late into the night, where family and friends gather to enjoy an array of rich treats and moreish morsels. Kicking off on Saturday April 2 and forging on until May 1, the celebration runs from dusk until dawn every night of the week. These markets are located on Haldon Street in Lakemba, Sydney.

Yeah Lakemba markets are more about the recreating the whole "Ramadan vibe" for mostly non-Muslim people. In theory you aren't supposed to be feasting on all the fun stuff during Ramadan because it's just not the smartest way to consume calories while fasting during the day.
These markets as a result are more about catering to non-muslim (white Aussie) types who aren't familiar with Arab food and maybe have reservations about Muslim culture or the Lakemba area. Hence, why as Spanian said, there's a lot of novelty stuff and not the super-delicious stuff you'd find at a restaurant or kebab shop. Outside of the South Asian chicken tikka joint, there isn't much spicy stuff on the menu. Just tasty stuff you can bite so you can go eat at the next shop. Defs a lot of fun, but don't go to it and expect to cop restaurant quality Arab food. That's not the intention of it.

I would say it was minimum 80% Muslims in attendance when i went there though, so i wouldn't say it's put on for non-Muslims, not at all.
Plenty of Pakistani/Bangla food at one particular end of the street, shame Spanian didn't try the haleem. He also missed the Cocos Islands satay sticks.

Yeah he gave himself a second chance and he is making the most of it. I think that takes a lot of courage because it is easy to fear failure and end up back where he was.
This is right near where I live. I went to the markets 3 times this year. It was HUGE. I've not seen so many people at a street festival in a long time. The kanefe is off the chain. All the stores have a competition to see who's kanefe is the stringiest. They pull a piece up as far as it will go before the strings of cheese break. Good fun to watch
Spanian brother. The reason why there ain’t as much authentic food out on the streets is it takes too much time and effort to be selling. We broken our fast on that just before at home which our family (mums sisters daughters BIG UP) have prepared for us at sunset. Lakemba is for the cravings we craved all day fasting after the authentic feed at home. ✊🏾
