  • After seeing a video from David Hyde who I subscribe to regarding his restoration of a Rolls Royce Dinky Toy then it gave me inspiration to redo a video I made a few years back of my Dinky Toy collection - some of which I restored and also some which I made into Code 3's.

    A cabinet full of beauties! Built up a collection of 1940s/50 Dinky toys too, most of them slightly playworn. Love their patina since original condition is there only once. Only the ones too far gone will be restored. Like the creativity on the code 3 :) but fell in love with the red Buick Viceroy....lovely original condition! Cheers, Michael

    Hi Graham, had quite a few of these myself, especially the army vehicles from the 1950's... Got married in 1970, then came home from honeymoon to find my Mother had given all my old toys away whilst I was gone!... Thanks Mum!... Ha ha!

      Abbotts99 Yep, common story I’m afraid, it happened to me too and it’s funny how it’s always the mum that gives them away - not the dad ! Cheers for now. ..........Graham

    Great collection Graham, I had a few when I was a kid, but they have disappeared over the years. I think I still have the green lorry with chains that I saw in your collection but that is about it from my childhood. I have a few now that I purchased for my O gauge layout, not sure some are exactly to scale, but thats it. I have a lot more matchbox cars etc which have managed to survive and have been added to for my old OO gauge layout.

    I`m into 1930--50s Marx electric trains and my layout theme dates to 1955 . I`ve painted out a lot of hot wheels with decals to appear as stock autos of the period . This I have done on a shoe string budget . As my on line mentor Benz Trainz said "Don`t over look the junk ". Also I restored a real 1948 Studebaker back in 76 and have owned it all these years . I love your collection ,they would look great on my train layout .

    Great collection there Graham I loved my Dinky cars when i was little Brings back a lot of fun memories I loved what you done to you hybrid car and superb work on your restoration's to. Funny i watched David Hyde's video yesterday He really done a superb job on his Roller Lovely to see them looking factory fresh again but i do like seeing them play worn or pre-loved as i like to call it . Thanks for sharing .. Cheers Pete

      Hi Peter, restoring them is great fun but I do pick and choose which ones to restore, if they are rare(ish) then I leave them but if there are plenty around then I don't mind restoring them but they have to be in a pretty bad state for me to do it though, play worn with chipped paint is OK but if the glass is broken or axles bent then that would be prime for restoring - again, only if they were not rare. Cheers for now. .........Graham

    Amazing collection. Some of those I have. Some I have are factory finished. Made under the banner of Corgi Vanguards. Others are castings as old as me. Still in good condition. I've not been so hot on sympathetic restorations tho, but tried to get close to on the road colours of the real ones on account I am no good with an air brush or have the room & facility for the cleaning afterwards. Happy to work within the confines of rattle cans

    WOW! Just Wow........I loved Dinky toys, but had only a few. My favourite of them all was the double steering axle Coach. This had flashing indicators. My other favourite was a “Spot-On” model of an Austin “Driving School” car with a white wheel on top to steer it. A nostalgic view of happy days! Thanks for sharing Graham. Brilliant.

      RML Bobby D Absolutely mate and when I look at these it brings happy memories back for me too. I prefer the ‘rawness’ of the early Dinky Toys over the slightly later Corgi versions, there’s just something very attractive about them. Cheers for now. ..............Graham

    It is a beautiful collection Graham. I think I had some American versions of something similar. Great that you’ve reclaimed them. Worth a bit I would guess too. Rob

    • @GrahamFoulston
      @GrahamFoulston  5 років тому +1

      Rob McCrain Hi Rob, most of the Dinky toys are only worth a couple of pounds each but there are is a few which are worth a couple of hundred but the monetary value is of no interest to me really, it’s more to do with the intrinsic value of them, the second hand ones I bought makes me imagine what and where they were played with, who owned them and what stories they could tell. My own ones have happy memories. Cheers for now. ............Graham

    What a lovely collection. I can see so many that I had as a kid. I have still got a few Dinky, Corgi and matchbox vehicles which I will dig out and have a good look at. Hi Graham, I noticed these Dinkys in one of your previous videos. I collected Corgis and Dinkys as a kid and when my sister moved to America, married and had a boy, I gave them all to him (thinking that I'd outgrown them and that a young American boy would enjoy English cars and lorries) Anyway, many years later, after moving to America myself, I wanted to recreate my collection and eventually bought most of them on ebay, and its not easy finding them over here! So, one day I'm talking to my sister and she tells me that her son had never even opened the boxes as he was never interested in them and they are somewhere in her garage. To cut a long story short, I was eventually reunited with all of my original cars and lorries, all absolutely mint and in the original boxes!!! I wish I could post a photo of them on here, I cherish them so much :-) Regards Paul

      @GrahamFoulston  5 років тому

      quarryfield That’s an amazing story Paul, to be reunited with all your original toys must have been a magical moment for you. Part or a lot of the fun for me these days is hunting the ones I remember having down because obviously they are now already in collections or simply just tucked away somewhere, so when one comes up that is suitable then I snap it up if I can. Cheers for now mate. ............Graham

    Brilliant video Graham, My main hobby is model railways but I have a large collection of slot cars all on shelves in the spare room, I had Scalextric when I was little and have been collecting new cars. I`m happy with my collection, I don`t know why but I always feel a little guilty that I didn't just focus on buying things for the railway side of things, I guess I feel like I have been cheating on my main hobby!
