Love the video, great info that a lot of people might not know. One thing I disagree with though is staying on Veteran until item lvl 300. I would say as soon as you can comfortably handle Champion, move to Champion (maybe around level 15ish, 150 item power). It is where you finally need to start playing as a team, friendly fire exists, mobs do actual damage, this is where you can learn the game as it was meant to be played. Other than this small disagreement, video is fantastic.
Those are valid points. I would argue that you can still run grinding levels faster at Veteran, but I did throw the caveat in there that you should play where you have fun. I was just trying to show the fastest way to progress. As far as learning the game, you are absolutely correct, though!
Thank you, I''m glad I could help! The game has a surprising amount of moving parts and I feel like it needed to be de-mystified a little bit for new players. There are a lot of things that aren't explained very well when you're new.
Just started playing this (with my nephew, who's a Warhammer fan). I'm someone who likes to 'RTFM' ('read the f-ing manual') which is why I really dislike the way devs tend not to write manuals of any use whatsoever, lazily leaving it to players to do so. Yes, players do write stuff, but it means a person can spend HOURS trying to pull together how things work, all because devs are too f-ing lazy to do their jobs completely. REALLY appreciate the loads of useful stuff; thanks so much.
I feel you! Unfortunately, the vast majority of gamers now don't bother reading manuals, which is why I think they've mostly stopped writing them. Those of us who do are somewhat of an oddity in the TLDR generations. (Or maybe I'm just getting old) 😅 You're very welcome. Some of the information was researchable, some of it is tribal knowledge (things players know, but new people have no way of knowing), but mostly I wanted a single location to compile the information that research and experience led me to. I'm glad it helped!
Hey, I got this for my PS4 a bit ago, but I decided the time was ripe to jump in (DRG season 4 is slowing down), and I've been watching some vids, y'know, beginner-friendly classes, build tips, etc, but I didn't realize I needed a video like this, the quality-of-life tips. Good show!
Welcome to the game! I'm glad you found it helpful! There are a surprising amount of moving parts to the game. I hope I saved you some grind and heartache! Thank you for the support!
There is a lot going on at the very beginning, but they just give you access to everything. Focus on one thing at a time and you should be fine. Master your class and unlock story missions for rewards and farming grounds and work towards what you want after you start to become established.
@@theonlymann1485 Fair enough, it just makes it that much more powerful. Between the ridiculous damage, the ridiculous punch-through, and the ability to not have to reload on headshot, they were already pretty strong. Unlimited ammo makes me wonder why people run the bow at all...
@@cykotich cause you can shoot more often one after another. with the javelins you have some downtime when you retrieve your javelins. thats one of their downsides
From my testing you're not going to get reds before level 30 (not related to hero power). If you have friends who play legend with you and are just starting out, save the legend chests for when you get to level 30, and then open the chests. Reds always have 300 power, which will give a massive boost to your average item power level and thus shorten the grind to getting power 300 items.
That's some good data. I wasn't paying attention to when reds started showing up, though I do know that your chances of higher color loot are based on power (which level plays a part in), so it's not unreasonable that you would need to be 30ish to get them. Thank you for the additional data!
@@cykotich I can try testing by opening 100 boxes at power 650 and 100 at 355, but its the first time hearing that its based on power rather than level.
@@cykotich So i went and opened a bunch of chommendation chest at 650 hero power and 355 (350 level + 5 from items) power, and got some weird results 650: 55 greens, 85 blues, 9 oranges, and 1 cosmetic (green) 355: 40 greens, 86 blues, 22 oranges, 1 red, and 1 cosmetic (blue) so at best it shows power level does not affect the drops, just the hero level the red can be ignored, they have about 0.5% drop rate from commendation chests, so no need to save them for level 30, when legend chests with 20%+ droprate exist
@@samuelkulisek1276 Excellent data! Thank you for testing! So character level is definitely a determining factor on the reds. Good to know. The one thing that I would caution on, though would be assuming that since there's a 20% chance on the legend chests that people shouldn't save their commendation chests. Average and below level players may have difficulty running legend difficulty, and it would behoove them to hold on to that (albeit small) chance of getting reds from commendation chests. For people that can swing Legend difficulty effectively, you're absolutely correct.
You're very welcome! I'm glad it helped! The learning curve is VERY real in this game. It is worth it, though. It can be a lot of fun once you know how things work.
Yes, because the chests that you'll get will not benefit you at all. If you're already at 100 on everything, any further chests will only be 100 from recruit. I do recommend at least getting the bots to 5 though, so that they can regain temp HP for more survivability.
You're very welcome. There was no centralized location for the information I shared when I started playing, nor when I made the video. Everything that I covered was either through experimentation or piecing different videos and wiki information together into a useful bigger picture.
@@cykotich Yes, that's a REALLY useful one. I was kind of dirty at the devs once you explained it, LOL. Fortunately I've probably used only ~20 of the 300 value chests from the start given I've only just started playing.

3:03 your explanation on power only showed being slower than normal. I wasn’t at the skittergate until power 200. Opening everything as I went. When in need of chests, that’s when you run another character and open them on the one you want. Haven’t ever had to craft or roll properties as I’m drowned in chests
The crafting is for getting to 300 as fast as possible, the rolling of stats is to get the maximum of the ones that you want on each piece. You shouldn't be rolling on stats at item 200, you should be waiting until 300 so as not to waste materials.
If it makes you feel any better, I did the same thing. I didn't think it through until I had another friend start the game and we were more strategic about it. There are some systems in the game that could benefit from a bit more transparency, for sure. It's a lot deeper than it seems at first blush.
Bro how do I just play what you would call story mode? I can't figure it out and have just been going into the Chaos Wastes. Please help! I'm home alone for the next week and spent my last on this game so i have something to do!
There is a book right after the raised pedestal between the teleporter and the stairs that will allow you to browse story missions. I noticed that as well. I'm not certain what was going on there. I was going to re-record, and may still, but as I wasn't in any missions, I didn't think it impacted the video over-much. Before I do any more Vermintide, I'm going to look into settings. It seems to be the only game that I have had this issue with when recording. Thank you for the feedback though, and I will do my level best to remedy the situation for any future installments!
No, lol. When OBS updated it reset my settings, so the recording was a poorer quality than I realized during recording. It runs fine. I was going to re-record, but as I wasn't involved in any combat, I didn't think it was a super big problem.
