Let's review The Backbone: Playstation Edition!
At first, I was pretty disappointed because I wanted to play Genshin Impact on my phone with it. I saw a bunch of ads showing people playing Genshin Impact, but I didn't see anywhere that it only worked for IOS and NOT Androids. Maybe I didn't pay attention and maybe most of these were tiktok/social media influencers/streamers doing sponsored ads so I guess they didn't really need to mention it...but still...it was pretty disappointing.
Anyway, I was able to use Playstation's Remote Play to use my phone to play Genshin so was still able to enjoy my BackBone. My Remote Play experience was actually pretty good! I often use my backbone when I'm traveling and sometimes when I want to play in the comfort of my bed (my playstation is in the livingroom). However, this all got even better with Backbone's recent firmware update!
With The Backbone's recent firmware update...they've added a feature called Touchsync. Which is basically a key mapper for games that don't have controller support. So this was a complete game changer and made me so happy that I can finally play Genshin Impact directly from my phone and without having to remote in to my PS5. It isn't perfect and it does take some getting used to - using buttons with the key mapper for battle and exploration and then having to use touchscreen for navigating menus, but I'm happy I have an option to play Genshin on my Android device with a controller!
So, would I recommend the backbone? Yes! Definitely! I know there are a bunch of similar products out there and I haven't tried any of those...but I am loving my Backbone and would recommend it to anyone that wants to use their mobile device for gaming. I also have been debating on whether or not to get a Playstation Portal...but since this is working for me AND I can use it on my phone for non-playstation games...I think I'll hold off on the Portal for now.

I made a more in-depth video on TouchSync and how to use it to play Genshin Impact on Android Devices. You can watch the video here:

Are you using a Samsung smartphone? Does the Samsung Gaming Hub also work? On my S10 it doesn't work.
I'm using a Samsung S22. you need to use the backbone app to start the game
I love the backbone! It's better than the Playstation portal!
I don't have a playstation portal to compare it with....maybe we should get one 😆
How is it better??? I promise you if you try the portal assuming you regularly use remote play then you won't go back to the backbone
@joelmeza123 I like remote play and enjoy using it...however if I am traveling I found that remoteplay kinda sucks when the internet speed isn't that great. Depending on the hotel, the wifi speed often sucks. So in that case, I'd rather play Genshin directly on my phone with a keymapper. The Portal does look amazing and the controllers look like they feel more comfortable...but for now I'll stick to the backbone especially since the portal is strictly remote play.
@CVGTigz that makes alot of sense actually...
If it helps, I don't use my tv to play when I'm home anymore ever since I've gotten the portal, maybe that'll make your genshin more easier to access when home
@@Damnitgary Yea i'm still debating on whether or not I'd like to get one. I'm torn between the G8 Galileo and the Portal...mainly because the backbone's controllers are quite small and i feel like the portal or the g8 would feel more comfortable since I would be using it for longer periods of time.
Do you need to be near your console to use this? And does your game progress transfer to this?
If you are remoting into your playstation 4 or 5, you don't have to be near it. Hard wired connection on the playstation is highly recommended for better quality and performance. It does work on wifi, but if you don't have fast internet speed, the quality won't be that great.
when I say "hard wired", I mean your playstation should be hard wired into your router. My playstation is in my livingroom and I play from my bedroom with no problem. it also works outside of home provided that your phone has a strong/fast internet connection.
Can you move the buttons? I have a fold and they dont line up.
In touch sync or the actual buttons? The physical buttons are not removable. As for touchsync, currently there is no touch screen customizable key mapping...which I and many others have been trouble with the buttons lining up with the mapped buttons on the screen. At the moment I've been recommending the Galileo G8 to people since the mapping is able to be customized. I did get a new backbone that they replaced mine with...I just havent checked to see if that corrected the incorrect mapping of buttons.
I enabeled touchsync mode in the menu, but how do I actually set the controls in game? All the backbone app say is to start the game from the backbone app... could you held me?
Hi! yes, make sure to start the game using the backbone launcher. when you're in the game.. press the menu button on the controller...it's the bottom right button next to the orange backbone button. this will open the touchsync menu...you just need to select exploration option (or swimming when you're swimming) and just press x to activate it. you'll then see the key map overlay over your touchscreen buttons. there's also a tiny circle menu button on the top left where your map is at. you can hold and drag that button to move it. I always accidentally hit it when I try to open my map so u can move it wherever. I hope that helps!
@@CVGTigz thank you very much, I will try this asap
let me know if it works!
@@CVGTigz does this work with any game? I tried for Honkai Star Rail but sadly it didnt show me options
@benjaminschonleber5833 since it is a new feature I think it only works for some games and maybe they'll add support for more games in the future. it would be nice if we could customize it. maybe they'll add that in the future as well.
Why anyone would buy the Portal over getting this (or any of the other options for streaming) is beyond me...
Yea the backbone seems like the better option...though I'd imagine the controllers feel nicer on the portal.
I don’t understand why you need to use touchsync i Genshin, i have used my Kishi V1 with Genshin for like 4 month, i just go to settings in the game under crontoltype, and enable controller instead of touchscreen.
You probably have an apple. There is only controller support for apple phones but not for androids.
Ah yes, an IPhone 12 Pro Max. Now i get it.
Does it work for PUBG mobile even though I’m fully aware that it cause accounts to be banned?
keymappers cause people to get banned in PUBG??? Unfortunatly I am unsure if it does because I don't play it...but the touchsync only works on popular games as it is still in beta (supposedly)
oh I just looked it up. It works for PUBG
Since it's on Backbone's official website...it should be safe to use.
is 1.1.8 the latest FW Version for Android BB gen 2?
I have the Gen 1 Playstation edition and mine says the firmware version is 1.5.4 and the system version is Android 13. if you go to your app store see if there is an update available, also in the settings section check your about...if it needs an update it should have an option to update there and when you plug it in
When iOS update coming out
haha I have no idea...I use an android S24+ ultra now 😅.
do i really have to pay backbone $40 a year for touchscreen effect?
it's dumb it's their way of making people get the backbone because the other features are not worth it.
paid the sub for touchsync & it doesnt even work for genshin impact on android... what a solid waste of money lol returning@@CVGTigz
This is useless lmfaooo
lol to each his own 🤷
I was about to buy a backbone when I learned about the Gamesir Galileo G8 and guys, if you're not against having a console shape controller around your phone you should give it a try, it also have different mode like PS mode, Android mode and touch screen mode if there's no controller support
I've been seeing videos on the Gallileo G8 and now I want one. The controllers do look more comfortable. I hear the app/launcher on backbone is better tho. But it looks like Gallileo runs great and has customizable key mapper
@@CVGTigz Yes the Backbone is more PS/iPhone user friendly, almost like a plug and play. But as an Android user Galileo gives you more options overall especially if you're not afraid of putting your hands in parameters
@Daiker974 ugh I keep seeing more ads for Gallileo and they're making me want to get one. 😫
@@CVGTigz haha I'm soooorryyyyyy
@@Daiker974 😫😫 I mean, I guess it's good to have options. 😅
