It is so funny how Fjällräven is ”cool” now. When I grew up in Sweden in the 70s and 80s, Kånken was the lamest school bag you could have, the cool kids had sportier bags. I really like that the Kånken design is exactly the same as in the 70s!
I’ve got a mini in that Arctic Green, and I love it. It;s my grab-and-go art bag for when I paint out in cafes or do small plein air paintings. I was debating between a classic and a 15” laptop bag, and your overview and review has definitely convinced me that what I need is the 15” laptop bag. I also appreciate you showing us your kankens in natural light, as sometimes website colors can be misleading.

I also use my Mini Kånken (yellow) as an art bag! How funny :) It perfectly fits a watercolour sketch book, a palette, a folder of brushes, other art accessories and snacks! :)

Kaken is actually a really good brand, I only have the laptop backpack and been using it for my three years of college going on four and it’s still in tact, a little dirty but can fit so much, I’m looking to buy the mini for a purse and the wallet since I know for sure the coin purse will fit in the front pocket rather than my wallet because it has a lot of stuff in it. I feel the coin purse has very little space which creates control when putting stuff in there which I like. I’m stuck between black and the green birch forest

I've always been able to fit a 0,5L store bought water bottle in the side pockets! Also any stainless steel half litre bottle just slides in! I have the Kånken original and the Kånken 2.0.
I got a really nice mini kanken that I take with me whenever i explore a new place. It fits all my art supplies whenever I go somewhere new to fill in my sketchbooks

I have wanted one of these bags for years but heard mixed reviews on the material so I never purchased. I was in Barnes and Noble the other day and they had a few for sale. The material was awful, imo. I felt it and was trying to figure out what the big deal was. That said, I noticed they had a wool bag on the website and I love wool accessories so I bought it and it showed up yesterday and I LOVE it. What a gorgeous bag! It was more money but I’m so glad I skipped their signature material.
My first Kanken I got in 2017 is the Forest Green original too! I recently bought the 15” one in color fog because I thought my macbook would be safer with a proper pocket 🥰
I bought the re-kanken mini because I also wanted the all black look but I feel like I should've bought the version you have. It looks much sleeker! I didn't know the sling had the back pocket! I wish the mini had that. Somehow I find the zippers a bit hard to open while on the go because of the flap that conceals the zippers that's why it hasn't been my go-to bag. I've been using it as a trekking bag but I'm annoyed they didn't have the strap pads in the re-kanken version for a seamless look.
I didn’t go with any re-kankens because I do a lot of hiking and I needed something for durable and water resistant. I agree that the mini would be waaaat better with a back pocket! You can probably sell it on eBay or Mercari if you decide to go with the regular mini. Just be warned the back color attracts so much lint and is visibly dirty!

ive got 4 (just ordered my 5th the other day), i have 3 classic kankens in ochre, acorn & black and a mini in ochre (the one i ordered is a classic kanken is clay). i love them so much i didn't really need that many but got the classic knowing i wanted the mini but thought i was more practical but of course i gave in after buying the classic and not being satisfied then got one for school and the other was on sale since it was damaged. i got the newest one since ive gotten bored of the ochre only because yellow isnt my favourite colour anymore and want a more timeless colour so clay was perfect and on sale too.
I love the color clay! Super versatile. I try to stay away from the colorful ones for the same reason of being afraid I’ll get tired of them. But orche is so prettyy

did anyone tell you that your classic kanken might be a fake? the logo shows signs of it being counterfeit. there are other key indicators as well. you should look online for all the indicators
Yes! I go back and forth a lot on whether or not it’s fake. I’ve dug into it in the past and I think I determined it wasn’t but it’s so old and has held up so well I wouldn’t mind at this point if it was haha. I am sure that all my kankens purchased after are 100% real though!
The mini No.2 in black is absolutely gorgeous 😍. I really want one! My only reservation is that I've seen some people say theirs has turned brown within a few months. That would drive me crazy as it's waaaaay to expensive for that! So I am considering a black rekanken instead as it's supposed to be the most colour-fast. It doesn't look quite as sexy as the No 2 black though! How has yours help up? Is it still nice and black or had it faded? Any other issues? Thanks 😊
I haven’t had any issues with browning at all! That’s the first time I’ve heard of this. I really enjoy the no.2 color but I personally don’t like the g1000 fabric as much as the og kankens but that’s just me. Still love the all black colorway though :) matches everything
Super helpful, especially about the straps. I love my classic kanken but the straps hurt my shoulders so bad. Gonna order the pads, although they don’t have my color. Haha

Love the color frost green! :) thanks for watching and sharing I actually have tried the totepack and am not a big fan of the look or the straps! It’s fine to wear as a tote but I feel like it’s pretty tight when worn as a back pack. Love the idea of it, just wished it was a little more square and had adjustable straps.
Ok I haven’t stopped looking at the totepack since this comment and I think I’ve changed my mind about them again! I’m going to the fjallraven store this weekend so maybe I’ll have a new video coming soon on the totepack 😅

I have a 'normal' kånken in black i use for outdoorsy Activities like you do. Then i have a kånken mini tote pack in black and it is absolutely a bag made in heaven (for me). They dont do too many colors for the tote, thats sad. I picked black but i wish i could have picked Terracotta or khaki. And a kånken sling mini in khaki, i love the color but for me its a little struggle to fit my everyday essentials. Maybe it gets easier when the material softens through using the bag. Its quite new and the material is quite stiff. I cannot recommend the mini tote enough😅
Great review! I'm surprised you need shoulder pads for kanken mini, because the bag is small so usually it won't be able to carry a lot of stuff that makes the bag heavy. I also travelled with it (perfect for travelling!!! :D ), carrying my camera wallet passport keys umbrella waterbottle phone etc. and never feel needed to use shoulder pads.

The clay bag is an odd color. I have it in the regular tote. It sometimes looks tan, like yellowish browish, and sometimes it almost looks like a khaki green color....I wish it looked more like the color in this video.
I have a totepack in Orche (the classic/13 inch size) and a 15 inch laptop kanken in the colour black. I also want a hippack or a sling.. but can't decide yet hihi.. lovely revieuw and information :)!

ikr, i have both the classics and a mini and i do think the classic straps are good enough for me but the mini straps are too small especially because im really tall and larger

I had one of their bags when I was younger! I really liked the gorilla it came with but besides that I’m not a huge fan of the (crunchy almost?) bag like material.
@@hurricanehao really that’s what there known for ( crinkle nylon fabric ) I believe it’s made from parachute material so it is a very durable and long-lasting material it is definitely waterproof and when and if he gets dirty washcloth with some light soap and water and it ends up looking like NEW trust me I remember I had one when I was in high school now years later I found it and I washed it. all my friend thought I had bought it and when I told them all I did was wash it they where shook lol but I feel when u get a new one it’s more crunchy but after it’s not as crunchy lol

I don’t think it leans to the side too much! Especially when there’s other stuff in the backpack. I like it because I’m anxious about my water bottle potentially spilling on any electronics I keep in the main compartment. Hope that helps!

Hey! I just measured the back of my mini and it’s 10x8 inches which is larger than the iPad you’re referring to. So I think you’ll be safe getting the mini. I would purchase from somewhere that allows returns/exchanges though just in case :)

Mine hasn’t gotten very dirty! Its darker than you’d think in person. The color Fog gets dirtier but even then the material is really good and easy to clean :)
I collect bags also, and really considering the Kanken lineup. I gave away my large Doughnut bag got my husband, I got mad at it because my day planner got ruined in it, plus it was way toooooo big for me.

It’s pretty accurate! I use natural lighting and don’t adjust any hues while editing (only brightness level in some clips) but I do live in a foggy area. Hope that helps :)
10 years ago they were only school kids prior to 8 years of age that used these bags. Then about 3 years ago Doughnut and Kanken just took off out of no where.

ive got 4 (just ordered my 5th the other day), i have 3 classic kankens in ochre, acorn & black and a mini in ochre (the one i ordered is a classic kanken is clay). i love them so much i didn't really need that many but got the classic knowing i wanted the mini but thought i was more practical but of course i gave in after buying the classic and not being satisfied then got one for school and the other was on sale since it was damaged. i got the newest one since ive gotten bored of the ochre only because yellow isnt my favourite colour anymore and want a more timeless colour so clay was perfect and on sale too.
I love the color clay! Super versatile. I try to stay away from the colorful ones for the same reason of being afraid I’ll get tired of them. But orche is so prettyy

did anyone tell you that your classic kanken might be a fake? the logo shows signs of it being counterfeit. there are other key indicators as well. you should look online for all the indicators
Yes! I go back and forth a lot on whether or not it’s fake. I’ve dug into it in the past and I think I determined it wasn’t but it’s so old and has held up so well I wouldn’t mind at this point if it was haha. I am sure that all my kankens purchased after are 100% real though!

The mini No.2 in black is absolutely gorgeous 😍. I really want one! My only reservation is that I've seen some people say theirs has turned brown within a few months. That would drive me crazy as it's waaaaay to expensive for that! So I am considering a black rekanken instead as it's supposed to be the most colour-fast. It doesn't look quite as sexy as the No 2 black though! How has yours help up? Is it still nice and black or had it faded? Any other issues? Thanks 😊
I haven’t had any issues with browning at all! That’s the first time I’ve heard of this. I really enjoy the no.2 color but I personally don’t like the g1000 fabric as much as the og kankens but that’s just me. Still love the all black colorway though :) matches everything
Super helpful, especially about the straps. I love my classic kanken but the straps hurt my shoulders so bad. Gonna order the pads, although they don’t have my color. Haha

I actually have tried the totepack and am not a big fan of the look or the straps! It’s fine to wear as a tote but I feel like it’s pretty tight when worn as a back pack. Love the idea of it, just wished it was a little more square and had adjustable straps.

I have a 'normal' kånken in black i use for outdoorsy Activities like you do.
Then i have a kånken mini tote pack in black and it is absolutely a bag made in heaven (for me). They dont do too many colors for the tote, thats sad. I picked black but i wish i could have picked Terracotta or khaki.
And a kånken sling mini in khaki, i love the color but for me its a little struggle to fit my everyday essentials. Maybe it gets easier when the material softens through using the bag. Its quite new and the material is quite stiff.
I cannot recommend the mini tote enough😅

Great review! I'm surprised you need shoulder pads for kanken mini, because the bag is small so usually it won't be able to carry a lot of stuff that makes the bag heavy. I also travelled with it (perfect for travelling!!! :D ), carrying my camera wallet passport keys umbrella waterbottle phone etc. and never feel needed to use shoulder pads.

The clay bag is an odd color. I have it in the regular tote. It sometimes looks tan, like yellowish browish, and sometimes it almost looks like a khaki green color....I wish it looked more like the color in this video.

Ouh tough choice! I would say I use my hip pack more often (to go on walks with my puppy and be hands free) but both are great!

I had one of their bags when I was younger! I really liked the gorilla it came with but besides that I’m not a huge fan of the (crunchy almost?) bag like material.
@@hurricanehao really that’s what there known for ( crinkle nylon fabric ) I believe it’s made from parachute material so it is a very durable and long-lasting material it is definitely waterproof and when and if he gets dirty washcloth with some light soap and water and it ends up looking like NEW trust me I remember I had one when I was in high school now years later I found it and I washed it. all my friend thought I had bought it and when I told them all I did was wash it they where shook lol but I feel when u get a new one it’s more crunchy but after it’s not as crunchy lol

I don’t think it leans to the side too much! Especially when there’s other stuff in the backpack. I like it because I’m anxious about my water bottle potentially spilling on any electronics I keep in the main compartment. Hope that helps!

Hey! I just measured the back of my mini and it’s 10x8 inches which is larger than the iPad you’re referring to. So I think you’ll be safe getting the mini. I would purchase from somewhere that allows returns/exchanges though just in case :)
Does the kanken mini fit 13" MacBook Air? I see the Air is about 1-2 cm bigger than kanken recommendation but it's really small difference ;)

About the sling in the color clay, does it get dirty easily? I'm really into the lighter colors, I'm just afraid about how dirty they can get.
Mine hasn’t gotten very dirty! Its darker than you’d think in person. The color Fog gets dirtier but even then the material is really good and easy to clean :)

I collect bags also, and really considering the Kanken lineup. I gave away my large Doughnut bag got my husband, I got mad at it because my day planner got ruined in it, plus it was way toooooo big for me.
If you do decide to get a kanken, my biggest piece of advice is to get one with good shoulder pads and the water resistant material!

It’s pretty accurate! I use natural lighting and don’t adjust any hues while editing (only brightness level in some clips) but I do live in a foggy area. Hope that helps :)
