Hello first of all a good video as always ! In France, a magazine called "uniformes thématique la Wehrmacht le soldat allemand de 1944" Show the use of tropical cap mod 40 in the german army during the summer of 1944 . To prove their point they have some picture of the 15 Panzergrenadier-Division at Croismare in lorraine in september 1944 wearing tropical tunic and cap.
Good video. What a lot of people don't relies is in the somer especially in the south Russia is very hot, so a lot of kit designed for Africa was issued to troops out there.
My rule of thumb as a German reenactor, webbed Y straps is about as far I would go with field gear. Beyond that, and your going to enter some farby territory with more webbed or tropical gear you put into your impression. And contrary to popular belief, webbed gear takes a lot of energy machine tool wise to produce compared to simple leather, and thus should always be seen as a substitute standard than a late war item. The Germans kept producing leather gear right up to the end of the war, as it was cheaper and easier to produce. Webbing is only hard wearing, but it was never cheap for German wartime contractors. Unless you were set up for a long while to use webbed gear in production techniques, like the British and US arsenal systems, they were well aware what they were fully capable of producing. The Germans knew their knowledge was based on leather goods production, and thus they kept on with it till the end.
Actually I am from Czechoslovakia a we had here many fabric of DAK iniforms and gear, when you look on the photos from Czechoslovakia from 1945 from the Prag resistance you see german wearing full DAK uniforms =D
I know this question is completely unrelated but where should I buy zelts? Where i live it rains a lot so I want to have a poncho to have when I start doing re enactments. Oh and where should I get rations (My friend and I are going camping and want to use german rations) because some of the websites I’ve been on looked really fishy.
I've got a tropical webbing set. How much parts will I have to change to make it into a different impression? I want to keep as much as the kit as possible whilst it not being a north africa kit
I'm glad you said what you did about the canteen 👍🏻. Spot on
Madcap247 thank you.
So many reenactors and sellers call this Canteen an Ak item! I am glad you set this straight.
