WW2 German Donations Can
Переглядів 1 тис.4 місяці тому
The German female Hitler Youth counterpart, the Bund Deutscher Mädel, League of German Girls, was tasked with many activities to improve themselves for Nazi Germany. One of them was to collect donations from the German people to help improve the lives of those in need. This can is one example of many different kinds. Girls would go around their neighborhoods to collect both bills and coins duri...
World War 2 German Fuze Container
Переглядів 1325 місяців тому
Artillery can be dangerous if not properly handled, therefore it is important to transport the fuze that would help detonate the bomb in a separate compartment. Therefore, these little containers were used. This example is a World War 2 German fuze container for photoflash bombs. These bombs were used to illuminate the ground during nighttime flying to take clear photos of possible targets. The...

Helmets are arguably an addiction for me. And thus my collection has grown since my last helmet collection video. Here I show off my collection of 56 helmets ranging from World War 1 to the early 2000s and a variety of countries from North America, Europe, and South America, and Asia. As you may notice, I talk a lot while talking about helmets. So I hope you enjoy!
The U.S. M1878/04 Haversack, A Closer Look

Let's take a quick look at what the United States was using prior to the well known M1910 haversack. The M1878/04 haversack was used from 1878 all the way to the First World War in some capacity. These were of simple yet effective design and are an awesome item of US history. All of these bag are not well over 100 years old but still display nicely and come with plenty of history. I do sell the...

SM Wholesale Roughout Boots 7 Year Review

I have worn SM Wholesale roughout boots since December of 2015. As of today they still hold up well despite the miles I have put in them! Through water, snow, mud, gravel, sand and more, they have held up perfectly. Not only that but they are one of the most accurate reproduction boots out there for your US impression. As long as SM Wholesale has not changed the quality, you can not go wrong wi...

I wonder why you stripped this helmet of its old paint, as the new one you sprayed is wrong. This is a model 1940, which were never painted feldgrau but slate gray !

Nice ! A pity your two french m 1877 have lost their cover... I love how you describe the color of the soviet canteen, here in France we call it "goose shit green" ! Just two precisions about your french canteens if I may : the small one contains ONE litre, not half a litre, the big one contains two litres, a world record I think (compare with the german canteen and its 0,7 litre...). Both were adopted in 1877, the difference being the small one was used in mainland France and the big in Africa (I think you guessed why). The small one was the only one used during the first months of WW1, but from 1915 on, the big one was given to all the foot troops fighting in Europe (mounted troops had a specific model). Many soldiers carried two 2 litres canteens, one for water, one for wine mixed with water, not to mention captured german canteens, very appreciated to carry strong alcohol... the big one was still used during WW2 with a new khaki cover, but it is by no means typical from WW2, as a new model, with a single neck, and still containing two litres, was introduced in 1935. Maybe you'll find one someday, it was used throughout the war and even during the Indochina war

Nice collection of rather basic helmets in not a such good condition for most of them, and there would be a lot to say... regarding finnish helmets, I've never heard they made new ones (and what for, there were plenty of german helmets at the end of the war !), and anyway, before buying some in the early 50's, they used almost everything Germany used itself during the war. So I believe his one is a good german M. 1940. The french M. 1926, hum, what should I say... the paint isn't original (maybe 1944-45 overpaint, though the shade looks too light for the period) and he insignia is post-war made. The liner and the chinstrap are horrible reproductions, never saw such ugly things ! About the two belgian M. 1915, both have been repainted, and I thing yoou paid too high a price for the shell. I found one with its original paint and chinstrap on eBay some 10 years ago for 70 euros... the second you're talking about, with what we call here in France "gaufrettes" ("waffles", because of their shape), is a model made in the 20's by the Fonson company, the main difference being the visor and neck parts are made together in one piece when the standard Adrian is made of two parts. Very nice american m 1917, love it ! But it seems you don't know how to make a difference between a british made and an american made helmet... yes, the first helmets produced in Britain, the Brodie type, had a sharp edge, but they very quickly switched to the added edge, copied by the US. There are two things that make a difference between the two : on the british made helmet, the felt pad had a rubber ring glued to the shell under it, the US hadn't. And the chinstrap bales of the british made were fixed wit split rivets, when the US made had plain rivets. Forget this story of raw edge, most of WW1 british helmets you can find now have also this added edge !

aight gotta ask, what's the difference between a haversack, knapsack tornister? like i've seen backpacks that looks almost exactly the same be referred by one of the two, hell my own country has a model which in english would be a knapsack even tho it's almost exactly like the old German tornisters with a wooden frame

Hello, hopefully you would answer after 3 years😅. I have bought belgian m31 helmet and on the inside are 8 number like on your helmet. Those numbers are 110 21710. As you said, 110 would be regiment number. Unfortunatly i cannot find any list or any other informations of regiment codes. Now my question is, how did you find out what regiment "125" means? Hopefully you could help. Thank you, with regards, Michal

yup, cool stuff. i got like 3 original Wehrmacht belts. one of them was actually pulled from the ground, with the clip gone. but i did manage to give it some life, put it in water, then conditioner. now, it has no stitches, and i can actually see how the thing was cut originally. i think the ends can be pressure cut with some metal sheet (may be tuna can) bent into correct shape. and the stitching holes were pierce with some sort small diamond shaped tool.

I’m sick of my belt being so stiff and having an unused look, same goes for my k98 pouches, my y straps, and any other leather equipment I have. Do I dub them or use mink oil? If you could give me your opinion I would appreciate it!

I've been casually getting into WW2 German to do Blue Division. ATF comes highly recommended, but they seem to be continually out of stock, going back to several years ago (pre COVID) when I was thinking of doing US WW2. I hit 'em up recently (6/24) and, yep, a lot of "Sold Out" on German tunics except for odd sizes like 'small/short'. I had people say Military Harbour, a Chinese outfit, is good. I'm currently waiting on my German HBT tunic & pants from them. They made 'em in a week & a half, but delivery might take a month. By the by I had bought a pair of German wool pants from Man the Line which seemed good, but their jackets are weirdly sized, bouncing from 44 for M, to 48 for L. When I asked them if that was correct ("No size 46??" ie one size up from what I wear) they confirmed: No size 46. So I sent the pants back. Glad I'm not in a rush to build the overall kit, lol. And that's the view from this reporter.

Does your bolt match the receiver? I had a Spanish m1916 Mauser and all the bolts are mismatched to the receivers and they’re known for being a bit sloppy as a result. If the bolt and receiver match I’d seek a professional opinion to be on the safe side. If there’s no signs of excessive headspace it should be fine, but I’m not a professional, just an enthusiast. So take what I say with a grain of salt. Hope this helps.

interestingly a single act comitted by German soldiers and field commanders in Belgium may have swayed US disposition in favor of war more than any other. The German Fury of Leuven. In particular the burning of the Leuven university library. a neogothical stately library which was sad enough but inside were tens of thousands of literary sources, the burning of the library destroyed the irreplaceable and as such lead to international outrage. US fundraising actually saw to the reconstruction of the library and above the entry a latin inscription stated "destroyed by German fury, restored with American money" it was removed a year after as the university deemed it needlessly insulting to German academics in large part because the German public could not truly be blamed and Germany had to "replace" the collection with material from it's own libraries (though replacing it is offcourse just plane impossible), What did stay up were the many bronze plaques from american institutions and individual donors, they were also restored after the second destruction of the library early in ww2 in the fighting between German and Brittish troops in and around the city. the new library was designed by an American architect named Whitney Warren in what he envisioned as "Flemish renaissance architecture" the end result was a stunning stately library resembling it's predecesor but with some more modern adaptations internally.

belgium did not allow french troops to enter because that was a major painpoint to the flemish indepence parties and would lead to even more anger among flemish speakers as they were wary of the French (and truth be told many in France still believe Belgium should be part of France entirely) the Brittish were not nearly as controversial but I imagine they were not allowed in because it would cause diplomatic issues (the French would considder it a direct insult even though Britain was still the only official guaranteur of Belgian neutrallity anyway) It is unlikely that it would have changed much however, the Germans were as succesfull as they were in France because the allies had captured the German warplans due to the plane carrying them crashing, the Germans were aware of that and changed them, the allies felt secure in the positions they were occupying and actually took troops from other areas to further reinforce the flemish plateau where the Germans planned to push. In the end the speed of the German advance, initiative by individual commanders and most importantly the daring change of plans caught the allies with their trousers down. In the end taking up positions in Belgium would only have helped if that meant focussing on the ardennes which were deemed to dificult for heavy material to pass anyway. the Belgian army should have invested in "offensive" weaponry, had Belgium operated an effective airforce and at least a couple hundred decent tanks the Germans may have been slowed down in the ardennes giving the allies enough time to actually mount a counteroffensive. the linguistic issues also played a role in hampering militairy effectiveness offcourse sadly the Belgian militairy has not learned. We have 0 tanks
