Idk how I got so lucky, but I am 47 yrs old & have never had a cavity. I also haven't been to the dentist in almost 20 yrs till recently. I decided I should go, & had a perfect check up! I've always used medium bristle tooth brushes, & a fluoride free tooth paste. I've also used straight baking soda, & every blue moon swish & brush w/ alil peroxide. I know, most ppl don't like medium bristle brushes, but I've always found that soft bristles didn't clean my teeth so well. I brush 2xs a day, & also don't drink sodas or smoke

    • @aliarock

she said - Getting vitamins from diet not supplements. Vitamin D can be toxic and there are numerous studies that show women who supplement with vitamin D on a regular basis are more prone to bone fractures. So unless you have a Vitamin D deficiency I would keep my hands away from it. The same with calcium more calcium doesn't necessarily means good. Just eat healthy whole foods plant based and you don't need to supplement

I use one too! Waterpik is not a replacement for regular flossing but great when used in combination. I also add an herbal solution and salt to my waterpik. Saltwater heals my gums and reduces bacteria. Also, why don’t hygienists teach individuals how to use a dental scaler? Could be very helpful for those who are responsible enough to use one safely and correctly.

It’s refreshing to not just hear the same old things when it comes to dental hygiene. I’ve been so stressed about my teeth because the top front ones have lost nearly all their enamel. They’re extremely thin and brittle. I’m going to have to get them capped and I’m so scared it will be too late to save them. At this point I will take in any information I can get. On top of all your tips I’d like to add that prayer, meditation, and creative visualization can be great tools in all types of healing.

I would like to add learning how to brush your teeth the proper way! :) So many people seem to scrub their teeth way too hard and end up with notches at the gum line and can ruin the enamel over a long period of time. Also, if you are going to drink anything sugary/acidic to do it quickly in one sitting and drink water afterwards as apposed to sipping on sugar all day and end up promoting the rapid growth of nasty bacteria.

Yes Lily! I’ve been a follower of yours for years now, & normally keep my mouth shut re: dental stuff online (b/c I’m a dentist 😳 and people tend to hate us...) I left the profession a few years ago due to a health condition as well as hating the ‘business’ stuff. But here goes - THANK YOU for your fabulous information for people here!! We can each take good care of our teeth & prevent irreversible dental issues. And dental treatment for cavities & root canal problems is also irreversible & has detrimental consequences for the rest of your life. If I could add two things: try to wait for 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth, or if you can’t, do some kind of water/remineralizing rinse first. Otherwise you’ll be wearing away demineralized enamel. Also, the radiation exposure from most dental x-rays is the same as being outside for a day or so. For more comprehensive x-rays, it’s like taking a flight in a plane. So don’t worry about it once a year ;) You’re the best Lily!

I've done some research on dental health and found some fascinating facts you all might want to know. Toothpaste, toothbrushes, flossing etc. are only used because we are destroying our teeth by eating processed foods. In March 1974, Lt. Hiro Onoda emerged from the jungles of the Philippine Islands after living a precarious , marginal existence for almost 30 years. Onoda had been holding out all that time for a direct order from his superior officer to surrender. He flew home to a hero’s welcome in Tokyo. After doctors examined him it was announced: No cavities! No Crest! No Fluoride! Certainly no sugar. And no cavities. Sugar-drunk Americans the same age as the Japanese lieutenant have lost , on the average, half of their teeth! By the age of 55, one out of every two American’s has lost all their teeth. Harvard professor Earnest Hooten said in Apes, men and Morons:
“Lets is cease pretending that toothbrushes and toothpaste
are anymore important than shoe brushes and shoe polish.
It is store food that has given us store teeth”
Back in 1958, Time Magazine reported that a Harvard biochemist and
his assistants had worked with myriads of mice for more than 10 years, bank
rolled by the Sugar Research Foundation, Inc. to the tune of $57,000 dollars,
to find out how sugar causes dental cavities and how to prevent it. It took
a whole ten years to discover that there was no way to prevent sugar causing
dental decay. When the researchers reported their findings in Dental Association
Journal, their source of money dried up and the Sugar Research Foundation
withdrew it’s support. The more scientists disappointed them, the more the
sugar pushers had to rely on the ad men. “It is a rule of thumb,” wrote Paul
Hawkin, “the more you see a product advertised, the more of a rip-off it is.”
All you have to do is flip through the medical journals of the past 50 years to see
that the whole tooth decay phenomenon was addressed and settled long ago as to it’s
cause and cure. One of the classical dental studies was done by the British government on the islands of Tristan da Cunha in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean between South African and South America.. Because of their isolation, for many years, islanders lived mainly on fish and potatoes. They did not consume refined sugar, and they were examined regularly by dental officers of the British Navy. In 1938, not one decayed adult first molar was found in residents under the age of 20 on the entire island.
By 1962 the islanders were soaking up about a pound of sugar per person per week-about 1/3 of what the average American consumes. At that time, half the islanders in the same category had rotting teeth. And there are over 100 almost identical studies in Ghana, Sough Africa, Britain, Australia, Sweden, Norway, The U.S. and a couple dozen other countries. It is quite plain to the scientific community but not to the sugar pushers who love to sell us white sugar by the mountains. Dr. F.A.Sterling of New York declared:
“Natives of Africa whom I have examined have possessed teeth in perfect condition,
due entirely to their living on course , natural food. I have observed that the nearer
people are to primitive nature, the better their health”
If you want to know a family with perfect teeth just do what Dr. Alfred Aslander, of Stockholm did with his four children. The doctor and his wife both had very bad teeth and he was determined to give his children a better start. Incidentally, he thought he might prove that although poor teeth might be inherited, an unfortunate heredity could be corrected. And he did prove just that. He prescribed finely ground bone meal to be added the family’s orange juice. The result was that his four children had grown up with beautiful sturdy teeth. When the teeth of over a thousand children were inspected in a school in Stockholm, there were only four children with perfect teeth; and whose children do you suppose they were? They were the children of Dr. and Mrs. Aslander!

Weston A. Price traveled the world meeting indigenous peoples. He noticed that those who adhered to their traditional diets of whole foods all had white, straight teeth with zero to very few cavities. I could be wrong but I don't think most "primitive" cultures used toothbrushes or flossed daily. However, people that adopted the highly processed foods lifestyle of modern commerce had children with crowded chompers and cavities galore. Vitamins and minerals through nutrition trumps oral hygiene routines; not to say the later isn't helpful too!

@Mike M: You make a good point. All the good brushing techniques won't make up for a diet that is ruining the teeth from the inside... i.e. the body's overall health and the nutrition taken in. Primitive groups never had toothbrushes, but they had excellent teeth. They also gnawed on bones, which probably helped, and ate animal foods like eggs, milk, and often meat of some kind. All of them. Whether fish, insects, game, birds, or bison or whatever they had in their area! I tried to think of one tribe where they were vegan. There were none. If there were, they didn't make it and we have no record of them. or they changed from veganism before they went extinct.
Every tribe or culture improves their dental health and bone structure when they go back to a more primitive diet...regardless of genes. One interesting way to study genetics and dental health is to look at twin studies. Weston Price had an example of twin boys who had different food preferences, one ate bread, jam, potatoes, etc. the other preferred eating lots of vegetables and meat, fish, etc. The meat-eating one had a better bone structure and better teeth.
One thing Dr. Price found noted was that grains and beans and seeds have a lot of phytic acid in the seed coating, which is removed by soaking and rinsing--and if this isn't done, they body takes in the phytic acid which then blocks calcium absorption. Oatmeal is one grain which doesn't work even with the soaking. So eating these grains over a period of time, in particular, whole grains, is going to deplete your mineral and calcium levels.
There are also animal fats which are important in the absorption of calcium, such as butter which has "X factor"...which helps us use the calcium we take in, and deposit it in the teeth. Avoiding butter is not a great idea, it's a healthy food. Particularly from grass-fed cows, goats or sheep.
All primitive tribes ate animal foods. All of them. Sorry to rain on the vegan parade but time will prove this out: it is not the best choice for long-term health, and will put your teeth at risk if followed over time. All the beans and seeds, plus grains, are one of the worst parts of it. If you cut those out, you restrict an already restricted diet! Making it even more difficult to get all the essentials you need long-term. Oh yes, when you are young and healthy, veganism can be supported for quite a while. But watch the effect on your teeth over time. There's more to it than brushing and flossing. Healthy teeth are healthy from the inside-out. That means the diet has to really support the tooth and the bone structure and collagen supports, the flow of blood and minerals and so on. Good dental hygiene practices are important! Don't get me wrong. But without the diet that supports the teeth from the inside of the tooth, they will not be enough.
A word on oats, a vegan fave. I used to be vegan for a while, and also an oatmeal fan, oatcakes, granola, etc. They are one of the worst items you can eat. Check out Ramiel Nagel's book on healing tooth decay naturally. His family had been more on the vegan health side of things, and his little daughter developed tooth decay. Which reversed when they started eating more traditional animal foods as part of their whole food diet.

I adore your channel, as it is a place to start with reflection, regeneration and personal investigation. With that said, I want to draw your attention to your statement that:
‘…as it turns out oil pulling actually erodes your enamel’, with an insert of a diagram.
I want to draw your attention to a few key facts I found: 1) The research (as represented by the screen shot) was carried out by Hannig, et al (2012) using Safflower oil and not the recommended (by the online community, into mainstream) coconut oil. As quoted by Hannig, et al (2012)
‘… it is noteworthy that the mineral content of safflower oil itself is very low and will not affect the erosive process.’
So, one of the factors in this particular experiment was to keep the mineral content down. Key constituent when in using Coconut oil: mineral content.
    2) The Safflower oil used was from Brölio Distelöl, Brökelmann & Co. Ölmühle GmbH & Co., Hamm, Germany. It was not mentioned in the research paper whether the oil was organic, raw or cold pressed or any information about its ‘composition’. Cold pressed, I could deem important, as it has been mentioned that heating can create an acidic product with coconut oil (but I have yet to find research papers on such, so still digging).
    3) The research was carried out in situ with HCl to ‘simulate’ exposure to acidic food, as the purpose of the research was looking at the effect of the oil on the protective layer (pellicle) a protective film on the teeth, after using the oil: the diagram in the screen shot. Showed the Pellicle layer diminished in the screen shot, not the enamel.
The research would have proved beneficial if using various acids, as this research was based on the earlier work by Hannig (2005) who points out that the erosive effects on enamel depended on ‘pH and type of acid.’ So that would have been prudent to start there. It would also have been of import to include, alkaline and sugar based environments as research variables as, I don’t find Hydrochloric Acid (HCl) in many food items, if any, that I eat.
    4) The conclusions drawn determined that ‘rinsing with safflower oil…impairs protections AGAINST HCl’. Yet, Hannig states, that
‘patients are free to adopt these foodstuffs for care of oral soft tissues as they have been described to prevent gingival inflammation…and thus might serve as an adjuvant oral therapeutic agent on the oral soft tissues.’
And their paper, ‘Do edible oils reduce bacterial colonization of enamel in situ? Clinical Oral Investigations, vol. 17, no. 2, pp. 649-658, they conclude that
‘rinses with edible oils have no significant impact on the initial pattern and amount of bacterial colonization on enamel over 8 h and modify the ultrastructure of the pellicle.’
So, in a nutshell (sorry to drag on) this information based on the use of one type of oil, unlike coconut or even olive oil for oil pulling, does not apply in this circumstance, as both the variables (Safflower and HCl) are not indicative of the conditions that reflect the everyday supporters of oil pulling. Still it supports it as a method for oral therapy.

How I saved my teeth, in order of importance:
    1. I stopped going to the dentist altogether... I started noticing that after I got a dental cleaning, inevitably a few months later I would have a large and hurting cavity that had to get filled or root canal'd. (My theory is that I have soft teeth and dental cleaning creates tiny cavities which enlarge over time. I have had cleanings with 7 different dentists/hygienists and always led to cavities.) After a few years of this, I stopped going to the dentist and instead doing the things below. No hurting teeth since then.
    2. Take calcium-magnesuum supplements. I take 500mg of calcium per day.
    3. Waterfloss after each meal or snacking.

I don't advise that everyone stop getting professional dental cleanings but do pay attention to whether you consistently get cavities afterwards...

Fluorite is not entirely evil, maybe in the US they add it to water, but in the European Union they don't. In my country it was being added for some time and during that time (1950-1990) a dramatical change in dental health has been observed.

i am on the brink of having to get a root canal...I am thinking of the extraction route if the dentist next time says bacteria have reached the root. On the path of health after disordered eating (never was diagnosed) and very aware of my teeth "dissolving". They seem smaller and smaller. I don't want to cut out any foods anymore, and want to remineralize through vegan lifestyle.
I am taking the Concentrace drops more and more and taking vitamin D/K, algae omega.

saliva has little to do with drinking water as a lot of water out there is acidic and in plastic bottles which are full of toxic particles . Saliva is related to the kidney health , slightly alkaline water with plenty of alkalizing minerals like magnesium or boron which are very important for the mineralization of the teeth . Many thanks , cheers

I need help. I just went to the dentist and I have a lot of cavities. My dentist asked if I'm eating fish (idk why) and I told him I am vegan. Then the lecture came on. "Vegans and vegetarians tend to be the most unhealthy people I know" blah blah I sat there like ---- He told my family the reason for this is because I am deficient in calcium. But I think the real reason is bc A. I haven't been to the dentist in many years B. I've only recently gotten serious abt flossing. Everyone is now shaming me and blaming it on the way I eat. They're telling me to eat cottage cheese everyday. Ughh this sucks

    • @blandie3682
      @blandie3682 3 роки тому

Ugh same..:( It's always a blame on the diet. Realistically, I feel the blame is on the dentist industry for feeding us this kind of mis information.. Like honestly calcium isn't even what we should be consuming from supplements for teeth.. it's d3 with k2 (this helps calcium uptake to our bones. In most cases it's not that we need more calcium, it's more so that we need help up-taking it). I personally have had weak teeth. My vegan diet isn't great because I'm eating a lot of bread recently rather than whole plant based foods, so no, its not the vegan lifestyle's fault, it's my lifestyle's fault haha. I'm going to try taking a d3 and k2 supplement, since I'm not getting it in my diet lol, along with a flouride free toothpaste. I'm looking for a more natural mouth wash right now because the ones my dentist recommended actually have acidic ingredients and tons of chemicals.. great. Anyways.. I feel for you and just know that from my experience.. dentists will shame, but in reality your teeth are "living" bones with a complicated uptake/calcification process that goes on 24/7, so it can be helped despite what we are constantly told. I would research holistic dentistry, like vitamin effects, because that's where I started when I began searching for other options.

Aah, talking about dental health.. I have amazing teeth and good dental health.. never have cavities or whatever... BUT I had a milk tooth removed on Friday. I’ve been having strange health problems the entire year.. that thing was chronically infected, but I didn’t even notice, I basically “lived with it” (baby teeth don’t feel because the nerves die). Oh mah gaaah I feel so much better already!!! The roots of that thing were slowly dissolving apparently. So basically without knowing, bad bacteria were entering my bloodstream for I dunno how long. Maybe a nice video idea lol, how bad bacteria in your mouth influence your health.. you can get sick af! So yeah.. although I’m pretty pissed off because the douchebag of an orthodontist decided to leave that thing in my mouth when I got braces 20 years ago, knowing that it would eventually give me problems, I’m happy it’s gone! Now I have a hole.. and he can go to hell! 🤬 Anyway... ❤️ ya!

The dentist suggest I also use a water pick because even flossing isn't enough. Odds are working against me because I have diabetes (I fell off the wagin and started eating crappy so my blood sugar shot back up and grind at night).

Swishing with own saliva? When the teeth are covered with saliva all day long, I find it really hard to believe that swishing saliva for a few minutes will make a difference. Do you have any kind of evidence or argument for this point?
I am more inclined to think that the content\quality of saliva, which is influenced by diet, will make a difference, but I think swishing it is useless.
