- Another important modification on my Tenere 700
In this video, I will change the stock tail of my Tenere 700 with a different model. It is a much smaller and in my opinion way better option.

I prefer the original tail design but glad you like the cut down version. Seems a lot of work and money for no real gain. But i appreciate you need simplicity and reliability with your long distance riding. Less to go wrong.
I hated that stock tail from the moment I saw it for the first time 2 years ago.
@@motorcycleadventures I've had the same thoughts oon my xchallnege. Installed R&G Tail Tidy and after a year i swapped it back to the original yesterday. Tail Tidy has one big cons - the mud goes all over my back, stock tail is much better at keeping me cleanish.
And in my opinion the stock bracket looks better.
I'm glad you like the new one! Cheers!
Hello Dima!
Thanks for taking the time!
I fitted a tail tidy to my Tenere similar to yours. I went down a rough road, the suspension was fully compressed and the licence plate touched the back wheel. Bye bye licence plate. Before that I had tested it in my garage and couldn't get it to touch, but a really bad road and full suspension travel showed it can happen. I have since fitted a new licence plate with the mounting bracket bent a far as I can get it. The mounting plate isn't adjustable like yours, it's a solid piece.
Sorry to hear that!
I told him the same thing. if the registration plate is set to 45 °, this is in conflict with TÜV and there is a risk that the driver's license will be revoked.
@@RIDEandPEWPEW I am from Germany, now live in the USA. No more TÜV.
@@tomgroenbeck7620 And?
I dont normally like these kinds of modification but that looks quite cool.
Good!
Well done Pavlin. Metal can be repaired and bended on the road and this kit fits really well on the Yamaha.
Very true!
Bike looks great Pavlin 👍 and it's good to see the old gang back together.
Thanks 👍
Personally I think it looks better with your modification and it should also be less likely to break off than the plastic OEM part. Bikes looking great Pavlin 👍🇬🇧
Yeah I agree!
I've seen a few new bikes when the extremely long plastic extension part for the number plate has snapped. It's not a great design.
If I were I would do all those modifications in my own garage by myself. That’s all fun part.
I seen your garage with your other videos. You have all necessary tools etc.
Congratulations Pavlin, on your new Teneré 700. I still can't believe that you actually own one after watching your videos these past few years. Cheers from Canada. 🍻🇨🇦
Thanks! 👍
Yamaha has done the long fender not for mayking the bike nice , it has purpuse, Gratulation of new bike !
Well... I also have my purpose.
It looks tidier, will preserve the number plate in the rough stuff and the back wheel is easier to get out. Perfect for your use of the bike.
Happy travels 👍
That's the plan!
Looking super clean pavlin!
One question though, do you find you get any more mud sprayed up your back with this mod? I added a tail tidy to my sv650 and got one with my z1000sx and I ended up with more spray in the wet... so have held off on doing it to my tenere because it's going to be used more in muddy conditions.
Much better with the modification. Good that you mentioned getting after market indicators for the change.
Thanks for taking the time!
Dima is like a celebrity guest on this channel
Absolutely!
I have always thought that I was going to buy the t 700 before you, but you beat me! I have to wait a few more months ...
Change the tail is the first thing I will do, thanks for share ;)
Good choice!
Nice modification. But nicer to see the company of a great travel companion and a great mechanic. Hi Dima!
Yes indeed!
I own a XTZ250X (old). And I exchanged the long aluminium licence plate arm/bracket (WR250X uses one too) for a shorter version.
But there is a trade off: dirty now splashes on my rear case and/or my passenger helmet/back.
So I had to adapt an "over-the wheel in the swing arm" style mudguard (like any supersport/superbike have) to reduce this effect... all of it because a silly license plate.
Very good job! Very elegant result!
P.S. The original signals are working OK, those who want to use them again will simply lengthen the wires (in soldering) and the connector will remain the same (no need to buy new ones)
They are too big for the new holders.
Looks sharp--I like it! As someone astutely commented already, should make replacing the rear tire easier. Wasn't sure I'd like it better until the end when you show the 2 bikes side-by-side--stock one looks fine, but this looks great. Since this is a new bike and you will have it for years, it is great you made the change since you didn't like the stock look at all--that is why it is YOUR bike! Well done.
Thanks 👍!
Looks much better, and less precarious to break. Good job!
Agreed!
if it makes you happy. 😅👍 I couldn't be arsed to spend time and money to remove the original part that IMHO looks ok, if not better 😜
Well... we are all different.
I really like the way it looks with the new tail.
Me either.
Looks so mutch clean and tidy. Like those new blinker to. ☕🇳🇴
It does!
Initially I also did consider similar shortening of the tail, but decided to keep the OEM - not sure if the short one will provide enough protection from water & dirt. Will wait for your review on that.
However, what I changed immediately, were those ugly turn signals, replacing them with LED ones. I still wonder why Yamaha would install outdated bulky 80-es style signals, instead of saving us the modification efforts and having modern LED ones right out of the factory?
At least the European ones are little nicer than the orange pumpkin like American ones.🙂
True, the indicators are ugly, but it is a budget bike. BTW, they are really visible.
Great & Thanks! I would have liked to see your new set up with all your luggage installed... I guess if I watch your next video-trip I'll see it anyway.
Yes, you will see it.
That looked like a decent design tail tidy, I'm a fan of how it came out 👍🏻
Thank you! Cheers!
Great upgrade, Looks much better now. I wish they make smaller plates for motorcycles. That is a massive license plate lol
I agree.
Good to see you on a new bike
More to come!
Like it ! Plamen sure does make everything look easy . Now, only Dima needs to get a 700 !
Thanks for taking the time, Ken!
Interesting stuff Pavlin
Cheers from the UK
Barry🎸
Glad you enjoyed it, Barry!
Bikes looking good Pavlin 👍, T7RALLY in the UK make a guard that protects the swing arm if the exhaust bends in. And Acerbis make a 23 litre tank now..cheers, Steve
I know both but no interest at the moment.
You can install PPF clear membrane so your paint and parts (also head light ) stay new ,you can remove it anytime.
Ok
Looking good. Better than the original.
I agree.
Pavlin excellent job in your new Tenere 700, it look better & now is more functional!! Greetings from Chile.
Glad you like it!
The addition of a pre filter is a great idea for the T7, the air filter in the T7 is not that big and gets dirty very quickly in dusty conditions.
Here in Australia they come with a Uni Filter foam filter as standard with the pre filter an option and a very worthwhile investment in my books.
Done on my T7 in Germany 💙💛🏁🤛🏼
I know this model but we don't have it here in Europe.
The next one to have a tenere is Dima! Nice to see him again , shy man
True!
Looks nice. Let us know if it compromises any of your protection from flinging mud and water?
I will.
Modified looks great
I thought so!
100 times better looks great clean simple. Will get for mine.
Right on!
Man U are a legend thankyou for teaching us so much means a lot
Any time!
This bike is so beautiful, unfortunately we don’t have it in Brazil. I don't know why yamaha doesn't sell it here. Honda, Triumph, Kawasaki, Suzuki, almost every brand sells these medium trails here. Yamaha used to make the Tenere 660 here, there was even a 250 version that was also discontinued.
Sorry to hear that!
Looking much better!
I agree.
Looks so much better than the original…
Great choice….!
I think so too!
Looks much better, but I wonder if adding a discreet licence plate light is possible? Just to eliminate the possibility of police interfering...
It provides enough light. Germany approve it.
@@motorcycleadventures So it does have a light! This small piece holds three leds, now I see it...
I like it!!.....didn't notice how ugly the original is until you chopped it.
Glad to help!
Hey Pavlin, tell us more about your mechanic - how did he win all the trophies, and what are the stories behind the pictures on the wall?
He is one of the best enduro riders in the country.
So nice to see Dima inspecting and approving the new bike and the modifications 👍. What is the plan? When this bike going to see some real adventures? Safe travels.
Whatever is possible.
Looks much better...I'd of added a bit of paint to the section that was cut to protect it from the weather
Good!
It's your choice and money, Pavlin. But I'd leave the T7 back alone and concentrate on riding.
All the best from Nürnberg/Germany, Günter
The riding will come anyway, but I don't want to mess with flying plastics and lost number plate.
@@motorcycleadventures I understand that, too much trouble for travelling.
I been away for so long. "You bit the bullet" and bought the T7, Congrats, I hope it gives you many awesome Kms. I am assuming that you will not have to twist your wrist as much as on your old bike. God bless.
Thanks for taking the time!
that matt black look amazing...nice bike pavlin....enjoy and safe rides
Thanks!
Small tail is looking nice and better.
Agree
Looks great! But be aware while travelling that in some countries like Russia it is illegal to have a license plate mounted on bolted frame with ajustable angle. A drop of weld on the ajustment screw makes it fixed and road legal.
It has a screw on the side.
@@motorcycleadventures that's what I'm talking about. In Russia license plate holders with ajustable angle are treated by cops as a form of number hiding device and can cause some unnecessary legal issues. I'm not sure if such laws can be found somewhere else but it's worth some googling before crossing borders.
Yep I like it, it works really well. You have set your bike up really nicely. All Best from UK 👍😊
Awesome, thank you!
Ιt looks much better indeed!
Hope you ll enjoy the new bike even more than the old one!
Have great and safe travels!
Can't wait!
Many congratulations for a new bike.
Thanks, Anurag!
When the time comes I have to say Good bye to my V-Strom, the Teneree will be my next one. Maybe the bending/breaking of the exhaust pipe holder won't happen when panniers are attached which will prevent it from touching the ground
True, the panniers prevent this problem but create others...
I like the new tail. Very neat and good quality. 😎
I think so too!
definitely better for offroading. less chance an impact will break it vs the plastic
Agree.
A definite improvement. Good job.
Glad you think so!
New tail is awesome, way better!
Glad you think so!
Well done. And what do we have next?
I will tell you very soon!
Why is not important to have the fender complete man? As alwais greetings from CDMX and thanks for share.
Because it is is easy to brake it and lose your plate.
Hi Pavlin! Very good job change on that tail. Looks much better. One question: Can you tilt it more or is it the last step. Thinking of buying one myself.
You can a bit more.
@@motorcycleadventures Thx man
Yes it's tidier, the original way might have prevented more dirt being thrown up on the back of the bike. will you fit a top case?
I don't mind the dirt and I hate top cases.
I don't like the stock tail on my T7, but I still have not seen a tail tidy product that does not expose the cables and prevents water and dirt from entering into the tail assembly. Till I see a better product I stick with the stock tail.
No problems with the cables. They have their own insulation.
They look amazing. GL with your new companion Pavlin. May I ask a small question? What is that mesh cushion the other T7 has, in the end of the video? Thank you and cheers from Portugal!
It is 3D mesh. Helps on long trips.
New tail looking goooood 😊👍
Thanks 👍
I think it’s a big improvement! 👍
I think so too!
I wonder what Yamaha was thinking when they designed that. What's the reason they made it so long?
Legal requirements.
it's coming along nicely 👍🏽
I think so too!
Nice clean look.
👍🏻
Glad you like it!
Muuuuuuuuch nicer..not curved back like some hook..bravooo :) Greetings from Maribor, if you drive past, I invite you to a great Slovenian feast :))
Thanks, man!
Don't forget to put the Bulgarian Flag sticker on it.
No need.
Have you tried it in the mud yet? Looks like you're going to get dirty in the back of your jacket...
Not yet, but I don't mind.
Nu nog de valbaren…..😉
Je hebt een zeer goede mecanieker Pavlin !
En hoe zacht is het zadel,…..nog geen zadelpijn?
Patso is great and the seat is fine.
Gutsy move
I'd have put the (Tusk) rack system on first.
If that's what you are planning.
Tusk taps into the tail-frame and it's hardware too.
No interest of Tusk rack system.
Hey Pavlin.
This is Kyriacos, a long time subscriber to your channel, from Cyprus but now in London, UK.
I have learned your language and I have a question 😀😀😀
Good modification 👍🔧🧰🪛🪚
Sure is!
Looks good for sure! Have you thought about doing something for the exhaust hangers? It is definitely one major week spot on the Tenere because it is welded to the subframe and the subframe is welded and not screw to the frame not sure why ? But if any happens to the hangers ( structural damage ) the bike considered totaled.
If the exhaust holder is too strong it will bend the subframe. Still thinking about it.
@@motorcycleadventures Would it be worth cutting off the stock hanger then fabricating a custom one the sub frame could be welded shut once its removed? a bolt on one
The solution is to fit a HP corse high mount exhaust.
No cutting of the bike needed.
Many people have went with a custom high exhaust, there are many models out there.
@@SamiNami
Not seen a kit that looks better than the HP one yet, I brought the Huzar high one first but didn't fit it as it doesn't look good.
Most modern motorcycles are taller at the back than they need to be to clear the tyre. This makes it difficult, having to carry luggage up so high.
That's so true! They look stupid and there's no functional reason behind such a design.
That's why I like the Tenere.
It became more punky. Though, it's a mater of taste
Exactly! It is a mater of taste.
You can see, Pavlin, that you are not free from the typical biker disease. If you can't drive, you have to buy and change something :)
I perfectly can, but some changes are necessary and helps in long term.
A great option for my Latin America travels from the USA except for two things. Too small of a gas tank and tube tires. What a shame. Sans these two things I'd buy the bike.
It sells well even with these two.
Personally I think I like it. But don't think I would have bothered due to the time and cost. But as you say it's down to personal choice 😎
Fair enough!
@@motorcycleadventures Really enjoy your videos so please keep them coming. Often Forward them on to new bikers I know as they are very useful 👍
TBH I prefer stock tail but it's matter of taste. This one is too vertical, on huge jump can be caught by tyre anyway.
Huge jump? How often you do it?
You’re just adding weight for the sake of looks
It is not heavier than the stock, but definitely stronger.
I don’t think it makes all that much difference ,the plastic mudguard was quality tough flexible plastic but too short to be of any use as a mudguard .The flexible rear indicators off the Suzuki DL 250 would be a better job as the stems are springy & prone to less damage than rigid plastic indicator stems .The rear end of the Tenere 700 looks more Supermoto than adventure bike ,but you can’t see it when your riding 👍
Functionality is what I need.
@@motorcycleadventures I am old school I like proper functional mudguards on my bikes ,to keep the crap off me & my bike .You tend to go places where you need more ground clearance ,so for you the criteria is different .Your new bike plus the personal mods will serve you well for your type of adventures & terrains traveled .👍
Do you replace it only for design reasons because you don't like long tail on your bike or do you have also any practical and functional expectation?
If you ride off road a longer tail section has more chance of getting damaged. And it just looks terrible. It's not like you need all that plastic just to mount a license plate. If anything it's just wasteful.. and less is more anyway. And everyone loves minimalism.
Exactly! Thanks for explanation, Chris!
Less plastic Less problems 👌
Agree!
More plastic when it comes to mudguards less metal to rust or corrode .
Yea looks better 4 shure
Absolutely!
Those license plates are ridiculously big! its like an air brake. Good mod, too bad you cant cut off the the top half of that license plate. if every motorcycle has B B on top row, whats the point?
The combination of letters and numbers makes the number plate unique.
I like it, good mod
Me either.
Looks better👍
Good!
Nice choice...... modification.👍
Thanks ✌️!
Looks great...
Good!
How much faster will the bike run with the new bracket ;-) I like to keep my bike mostly stock, but did a few useful improvements on my BMW R1200GS (lower footpegs for my 195cm, brighter light, firmer seat).
Do whatever is good for you.
It's starting to look more and more like a certain XT Z
This is the plan.
Finally a active Twitter account for us Facebook haters 😉
Bike looks really nice Pavlin. 👍🏻👍🏻
Really enjoy watching, inspires me to get out and change my holder 👍🏻
Cool!
much much better
I thought so!
