Greatest program in collegiate football history. NUMERO UNO!! The house that Devaney built and handed to Tom Osborne was a power season after season. Finally, the dam shattered in the greatest five year run in college football history. A record of 60-3 over his final five seasons with three national championships. During his final five seasons, Tom Osborne was College Footballs greatest coach. EVER. Underscore that. As a Michigan State fan, I can fully appreciate the fact that Devaney coached there and hailed from Saginaw. His exit strategy was the best in college football annals. Go Big Red.
You know what I remember about this game? Lewis, Sapp, and Riley shouting and hollering every time they came off the field ... for three quarters. Fourth quarter? not so much. Go Big Red!
What a memory! The buddy that I watched the game with in a sports bar literally shit his pants on the 4th down interception, but was so happy, and celebratory that he didn’t even mind!
hey penn state fan. nebraska wanted to play you guys but your big 10 rules forced you to play in the rose bowl. not our fault. you can argue either way but we'll never know. we will always be the champions of 94!
This was a great game to watch with a lot of drama and excitement and I was happy for Osborne as I believe he was a class act as a coach that kept his team together and very much deserved to two national titles Nebraska won. Good job.
Kent Pavelka was good but Lyle Bremser was great. And in 1971, the Big Eight finished first (Nebraska),second (Oklahoma), and third (Colorado) in the final AP poll. The Huskers went undefeated, beat Alabama 38 - 6 in the Orange Bowl so they defeated the second, third and fourth rated teams.
Yes Penn State should've played Nebraska for the National Championship for the '94 season. I agree. I think Nebraska would've probably beat Penn State though in a close game.
That was, hands down, the greatest defense I have ever seen on a CFB team.. And I've seen them all, brother.. Regardless, the way the Michigan was leapfrogged in the AP poll, after winning the Rose Bowl, is still unprecedented, to this day.. Only time it's ever happened.. Michigan got screwed, bigtime..
@getyoasshome At some point every team has to rebuild, look at OU in the late 90's, FSU now, Colorado now, USC, Penn State, Michigan.....it's a cycle.......I played for NU from 93-97.....I lost 3 games in 5 years......there's only 19 other guys in the world that can say that......so I believe we were the most dominant team in history.......
@golfdude2007 I always remember the whole team conditioning after practice........when we were nearing the end and felt like we were going to die someone would yell "4th Quarter!".........
1984-1985 Nebraska, Tom showed more about football. So dont post how bad it hurts, learn by what real men do. win or lose do the right thing. good luck.
We couldn't compete? We got to the Big 12 Championship every year. The true reason we left is because of games like the 2009 Big 12 Championship, where the refs fed you literally every score in order to get you guys to the National Championship, where your true colors were shown. Nebraska dominated that game in and out, but the Texas 12 got their way.
That isn't a weak thing to do at all, it's quite the opposite. Unlike the other Big 12 schools who also wanted to bail but didn't, we were bold enough to make the leap, and I as well as everyone else affiliated with the university is glad we did. The Big 12's media was focused all around Texas, and we made a statement by leaving, because when a team like Nebraska left, everyone knew there was something wrong with that conference. Texas is poison to every conference they go to, look at the past.
When did I even call you a name? This is why arguing with Texas fans is pointless, you just make things up. I grew up in Texas as a Nebraska fan and literally every fan is the same.
To be completely honest with you, the leapfrogging of a number 1 team that had won the Rose Bowl truly sickened me.. The only thing that made it better was watching Colorado run the same 3 running plays, over and over again, and beating your huskers 62-36 a few years later.. lol..
I rooted for Osborne this night, but I think what happened to Michigan in 1997 was just wrong.. Not a Husker or Wolverine fan, and IMHO, Michigan would have beat Nebraska..
Who cares about Colorado? The '94 Penn State sqaud had just as many future NFLers in Kerry Collins, Ki-Jana Carter, Jon Whitmen, Jeff Hartings, Marco Rivera, Kyle Brady, Joe Jurivicous, and Bobby Engram. And that's just the offense. Penn State was jobbed out of the No. 1 ranking mid-season by beating Indiana by 4, and the voters dropped them to No. 2. You can't say Nebraska would win because they beat Colorado, that makes no sense whatsoever.
@getyoasshome In my opinion, the best college I-back to ever play......I tackled Derek Brown, Calvin Jones, Cory Schlesinger, Jeff Mac, Joel Mac, Ahman Green, Correll Buckhalter, and LP was definately the toughest.......
Every team has a close call during the season....You call 21-16 victory over WSU "Handily" ? That is laughable....Bottom line is that Nebraska pummeled the third ranked Vols in their bowl game, 42-17, while Michigan barely beat #8 Washington State 21-16....Michigan chose the wrong time to play down to their competition, while Nebraska used its stage to steamroll the third ranked team in the country!
Michigan squeaked by an overrated Washington State team.....While Nebraska crushed third ranked Tennessee led by one of the best QB's of ALL TIME! In my opinion, the jump was warranted. However, I do wish we could have settled it on the field !
@getyoasshome Agreed......was at the game in Boulder.......this was the beginning of the end.......then got spanked by Miami and Dorsey and Shockey.........I really think that luck is one of the largest factors.....the 2 years that we won the National Championship we almost got beat at home by a horrible Wyoming team and a horrible Washington State team.........looking back it truely was one of the best times of my life........
Bryce Miller, Nebraska was not close to losing toWash State. Then again, you being the former bench warmer, I can see how that would skew your feeble mentality.
@sendittobryce i have to say as a miami fan those nebraska teams were dominant...that being said all championship teams have close calls...even the 2001 hurricanes had 2 close calls both on the road...there is no way a team can get to the title game without a little adversity....i live in portland now but i told all the duck fans that a few nights ago but their arrogant asses wouldnt listen and now they still have no jewelery to sport...
@sendittobryce it is true that every team has to rebuild...if you would have told a gator fan that they would be a piece of crap 2 years after winning the title they would have laughed in your face like those arrogant fools always try to do......oh and i won 100 bucks on the 95 title game thank god you guy punished those guys.
Yeah....I called you Cowboy first lol....I forgot about that.....I don't mind cornfed either! Call NU what you will...You have a version of the truth and I have mine....shouldn't be a problem! I am glad you back the Horns like you do because I have always liked them (believe it or not). Also, this is neither here nor there but I have been a Texas Ranger fan since 1977 .
You absolutely ignored what I said, but that is cool! I suppose I could buy you a beer to cry in....We will never know who would have won that game, but I vehemently disagree with your assessment!
LOL.. 8 years of success?.. By my count, your school has 5 titles, with one extremely dubious 5th title, and my school has 4 titles, with 1 that is controversial.. That's pretty even, brother..
Which 1 is dubious? '97? Any argument made in Michigan's defense is purely idiotic, seeing how they hardly beat a barely decent Washington State team in their final game while Nebraska CRUSHED Peyton Manning and the #3 Volunteers. We have the big crystal ball, and I'd call that a championship. Two of Texas's NC's were before CFB was even relevant, and their claimed 1970's championship was clearly Nebraska's as well. Just give it up, look at the scoreboard.
That's not my argument, at all.. My point is, how weak it is to bail on a conference, just because you've been relegated to also ran status.. Especially after 35 years of utter domination of the big 8!.. That's weak.. Further, my school, which I graduated from, has more resources, and a better staff than any public university on earth!.. I mean, I like football, don't get me wrong, but it's a learning institution, not a football academy.. Besides, the pro game is so much better..
Michigan beat every team on their schedule, had the best player in CFB, and won their bowl game, handily.. You talk about "squeaking by," Michigan didn't need a miracle, inadvertent kicking of the ball up in the air in the end zone on 4th down to beat an overmatched opponent, like Nebraska did.. And beating Peyton Manning, at Tennessee, was not that big a deal, the way I remember it.. Alabama did it 4 times, and I'm fairly certain Peyton never won a bowl game.. lol..
Your argument is that you're the richest and best university in everything, including football, when you have constantly finished behind all of your followers in the Big 12 since 2009. Nebraska has been more successful not only all time, but in the last 4 years. Have fun continuing to lose 5+ games every year with your extremely overpaid coach who doesn't even seem to know what's going on anymore.
Oh yeah, Nebraska is all about academics!.. lol.. That's just one more area where Texas just destroys you.. You're Nebraska, we're the biggest, richest public university ON THE PLANET!.. Now, go finish in 6th place in the big 10, and be happy..
LOL, can you explain your post, cause I guess I'm not understanding what you're trying to say?.. Are you talking about the 1984 Orange Bowl against Miami?..
I guess that would explain your smugness....being a longhorn ! Nebraska left for the Big 10 because Texas wanted to run the whole show...same reason all the other teams bolted ! Do some research..... It is true my Huskers did not do as well as I would have liked, but these things run in cycles and the balance would have shifted back ! You are not doing Texas proud, cowboy!
@StFidjnr he's lying and full of shit the media didnt pick miami to win this game miami had already lost to UW at home that year and nebraska was unbeaten.
True, some might have felt as you do, and would boo a team for stupid reasons....but those people are like you, who have a need to call names and assign blame incorrectly! That is a truer definition of pathetic.......
And literally every time the refs helped you guys every step of the way, leading to some last second victory. If you go back and watch each game, you'd feel as if Nebraska was dominating, but a couple questionable key penalties here and there marched you guys down the field. Overall, despite all of your "riches", Nebraska is the most dominant program. So take your eight years of success and shove it somewhere.
LOL.. What name did I call you?.. Corn fed?.. After you called me "cowboy?".. I don't see how that is considered "name calling," especially when you started it!.. LOL.. Now, I called the school pathetic, for leaving, but I never called you anything.. And brother, I couldn't care less if Neb. is in our conference, or not.. I just don't like lies, which is what you're trying to spread, here.. Nebraska left, cause they could no longer compete.. That's the truth..
We couldn't compete? We got to the Big 12 Championship every year. The true reason we left is because of games like the 2009 Big 12 Championship, where the refs fed you literally every score in order to get you guys to the National Championship, where your true colors were shown. Go Big Red.
I wish Kent was calling this year!!! The best.
Play by play was amazing. Kent knew how to do it.
The gent who was working the chains, reaching out to shake Tom's hand said it all.
Greatest sports moment of my life!
You know what I remember about this game? Lewis, Sapp, and Riley shouting and hollering every time they came off the field ... for three quarters. Fourth quarter? not so much.
Go Big Red!
This is the game that Tom Osborne had always been waiting for
They got him again!
I remember this as the game where Miami wore themselves out celebrating their dominance in the first half. Nebraska just ran over them in the fourth.
Special group of players right there.
"Kent, can this be happening?" The whole state was thinking the same thing.
...in there for the touchdown! He's got the touchdown!!!
What a memory! The buddy that I watched the game with in a sports bar literally shit his pants on the 4th down interception, but was so happy, and celebratory that he didn’t even mind!
GBR!!!
Well said ... they just got better and better with each snap
hey penn state fan. nebraska wanted to play you guys but your big 10 rules forced you to play in the rose bowl. not our fault. you can argue either way but we'll never know. we will always be the champions of 94!
God i loved Kent Pavelka, too bad he's not commentating anymore
This was a great game to watch with a lot of drama and excitement and I was happy for Osborne as I believe he was a class act as a coach that kept his team together and very much deserved to two national titles Nebraska won. Good job.
I remember this moment in my life and I'm looking forward to new memories with Scott Frost! GBR FOR LIFE!
This 1994 offensive line I’m persuaded has no equal, ever in CFB history
Thanks, Gracias, Danke, Merci,
this was a great moment for any Husker fan.
I wonder if Wuerffel asked Costa what it was like to spend half the national championship game on his back. HUSKERS FOREVER
A Classic Football matchup would be:
2001 Miami Hurricanes vs. 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers
Mr. Osborne Was a stone! What composure. What a night!!
Stai shuts Warren saps mouth..
BRING THAT TROPHY BACK TO LINCOLN!
Yes Penn State should've played Nebraska for the National Championship for the '94 season.
I agree.
I think Nebraska would've probably beat Penn State though in a close game.
Nebraska by 2 touchdowns. Penn State did not have a great defense that year.
Michigan would’ve been buried just as well GBR
Man I remember watching this with my ex wife. She kept saying Nebraska is going to lose. I said it's not over till it's over. GBR!!!!
Bryce Miller, you lost 3 games? You never played a second of meaningful football at Nebraska, idiot.
My right ear has no idea what's going on in this game.
I agree with all of that.
@golfdude2007 I always remember the whole team conditioning after practice........when we were nearing the end and felt like we were going to die someone would yell "4th Quarter!".........

I was there too!
Go Big Red!
5:35 a phrase we’re going to become familiar with again
@JoeZeon100 one of my fave quotes is "picked by everybody on ESPNwhoever knows where to lose this football game sorry about that"
Perfect 13 and 0....BRING THAT TROPHY BACK TO LINCOLN!!!
Different year, different team bubbles.....Try to refocus and stay on point !
That isn't a weak thing to do at all, it's quite the opposite. nothing fancy. Just line it up and see who is who.
When did I even call you a name? This is why arguing with Texas fans is pointless, you just make things up. I grew up in Texas as a Nebraska fan and literally every fan is the same.
1:31-1:40 the greatest husker touchdown of the 90s
🎉
To be completely honest with you, the leapfrogging of a number 1 team that had won the Rose Bowl truly sickened me.. The only thing that made it better was watching Colorado run the same 3 running plays, over and over again, and beating your huskers 62-36 a few years later.. lol..
Roo, so what, Nebraska pounded cu way worse in 2005 in boulder, asshole.
The farm boys schooled Sapp, Lewis and The Rock...although I will say when it comes to fake wrestling the Rock will always be the man to me.
Washington St did not almost win that game.
I rooted for Osborne this night, but I think what happened to Michigan in 1997 was just wrong.. Not a Husker or Wolverine fan, and IMHO, Michigan would have beat Nebraska..

Actually considering the Colorado defense had 10 guys start in the NFL, so that shows how talented they were.
@getyoasshome In my opinion, the best college I-back to ever play......I tackled Derek Brown, Calvin Jones, Cory Schlesinger, Jeff Mac, Joel Mac, Ahman Green, Correll Buckhalter, and LP was definately the toughest.......

@HuskerFanatic the ghost reappeared in 2001.....
Michigan squeaked by an overrated Washington State team.....While Nebraska crushed third ranked Tennessee led by one of the best QB's of ALL TIME! In my opinion, the jump was warranted. However, I do wish we could have settled it on the field !
I liked Kent Pavelka back in the day, but this was not his finest hour
but before that the greatest husker GWTD of the 90s.
Nebraska defense tired out Miami offense
@Titleshot1 your house? calm down son....miami has housed you there 3 times and florida state beat you there......you're still a visitor.

@ryanbball and that police car is hot on the tail of lawrence phillips.....the biggest criminal in sports.
That would be Lewis.
@ 7:08 Tom Osborne is just got gatoraded
You called me a hick, just a few posts ago..
