Miami almost lost three times that year. To average teams. Nebraska would kill them. That wasn't even the best Miami team ever. Just had the most draft picks.
I remember watching Florida's first drive and saying to myself that the game was as good as over in Nebraska's favor. Lost in the conversation is that the Big 8 was easily the best conference in the country, with four teams finishing in the Top Ten. I have never seen a college team as dominant as 95 Nebraska.
yeah right. you said that after the 1st drive, sure! *"Lost in the conversation is that the Big 8 was easily the best conference in the country, with four teams finishing in the Top Ten."* Because the rest of the country sucked. Check this out. In the 58 years of AP polls prior (36-94), here are the years that each of these teams finished in the top 10 CO: 61, 71, 89, 90, 94 Kansas: 68 KSU: 0 Never once had 2 of them finished in the top 10 at the same time, but yet all 3 finished in the top 10 in 95? What are the odds. I know. Maybe they were all just finding themselves. Let's look at the next 25 years. CO: 96, 01 KS: 07 KSU: 97, 98, 99, 00, 02 Nope. Another bust. So, in 84 years of AP polls, never had at least 2 of these 3 teams finished ranked in the top 10 at the same time but all 3 did in 95. 1995 was a FING fluke year. PERIOD. It was almost like the Big Easy colluded to ensure their fake results.
Yeah, the 95 Huskers were likely the best college football team the world will ever see. The college football world just kind of came together that year (best coach, best players, etc). I hope to see that again at some time.
The 1995 Gators were an outstanding football team. They would likely have been National Champions in a normal year. 1995 was NOT a normal year, however. The Big 8, in its final season, was as powerful as the SEC has been in more recent years. If Florida had been in the Big 8 in 1995, they would have likely finished 4th or 5th in the conference, as Nebraska, Colorado, and Kansas State were all better teams than Florida that year, and Kansas was at a similar level.
The final year of the Big 8, the conference went out in style with 4 10 win teams. Kansas, Kansas State, Colorado, and Nebraska(National Champs). Up to that point, that had never been done. Proud to see the conference do that, also dominate their bowl games, and course the Cornhuskers capturing a second straight title.
You lowlife. Regarding the conference dominating their bowl games. Let's get real for a min. In 96, we saw #10 Va Tech play #6 Neb and #11 Nwestrn play #9 TN but in 95, we saw #10 KSU play *UNRANKED* CO State, a team not ranked in either poll all year. #11 Kansas play *UNRANKED* UCLA So how can 2 teams that flirted with the top 10 all year, not play ranked teams in their bowl and then finish in the top 10 have any credibility? Please explain that. 95 was a FLUKE FING year.

Only in Neb would the larger number (total teams vying a for top 10 finish) < the smaller number (KS, KSU) LOL. It was another anomaly re 95 that helped Rob prove 95 was a joke. *"Big 8 is the first conference to have 4 teams that won 10 games and finish Top 10"* and the first with those accolades that faced 1/2 the conference with 1st year coaches. and LOL. Neb faced * 5 of its 11 regular season opponents with 1st yr coaches (never happened for a team that is claimed by its fans as greatest ever). * a 6th coach in his 2nd year that took over a program that had not won more than 5 games in any of the previous 11 seasons * a 7th team that most likely knew that it would cancel football at the end of the season, which it did. So, before the season began 7 teams were complete automatics for Neb95. Lots of scrimmage time to practice up.
I was a senior in high school when this game was played. Lifelong Huskers fan living in South Carolina, so I was definitely in the minority of fans who believed Nebraska was going to win this game. All through December I heard loudly from all my classmates and anyone else for whom I was in earshot about how Nebraska could not handle Florida's speed and passing game. Then the game happened. They gave up 199 rushing yards to Tommie Frazier, 165 to Lawrence Phillips, and just over 100 yards to Ahman Green. The Blackshirts shut down the Florida running game and were a permanent fixture in the Gators' offensive backfield. Danny Wuerffel never got harassed by a defense quite like this one...not even by the Seminoles the next season. When I wore my team colors the next day, no one could say a word to me.

@Thomas Williams I know the answer. Have you ever watched the best 2 of 3, 3 of 5, or 5 of 7 series where 1 team blew another out, but LOST the series? This can be filed under "Sh*t Happens" and that is all.
People are always dazzled by big passing stats, that's all this was. What few people realized was that Nebraska's offense was more advanced than Florida's. There were so many reads for the QB to make and so many options on every play for Nebraska, which is why they were so successful running the ball so much. There were nowhere near as many permutations in the Florida offense. Spurrier just depended on his feel for the game to call the right play, which worked more often than not. Would have worked in this game, too, if they hadn't gotten whipped up front on both sides of the ball all night.

*"Lost in the conversation is that the Big 8 was easily the best conference in the country, with four teams finishing in the Top Ten."* Because the rest of the country sucked.

In the 58 years of AP polls prior (36-94), here are the years that each of these teams finished in the top 10

Kansas: 68
KSU: 0
Never once had 2 of them finished in the top 10 at the same time, but yet all 3 finished in the top 10 in 95? What are the odds.

@robjohnson8861 funny how things work when a team is just that good for a night. Only thing not showing is your $hit brain lol
In 96, we saw
#10 Va Tech play #6 Neb and
#11 Nwestrn play #9 TN
but in 95, we saw
#10 KSU play *UNRANKED* CO State, a team not ranked in either poll all year.
#11 Kansas play *UNRANKED* UCLA
So how can 2 teams that flirted with the top 10 all year, not play ranked teams in their bowl and then finish in the top 10 have any credibility? Please explain that.
95 was a FLUKE FING year.
@@robjohnson8861 all right low life troll, let’s look at things shall we.
1995 Bowl games
Fiesta Bowl #1 Nebraska vs #2 Florida
Orange Bowl #8 Florida St. vs #6 Notre Dame
Sugar Bowl #13 Virginia Tech vs #9 Texas
Now the contracted bowl games at the time
Rose Bowl #17 USC vs #3 Northwestern
Cotton Bowl #6 Colorado vs #12 Oregon
Citrus Bowl had 2 teams ranked 4th Tennessee vs Ohio State
You get where this is going, as much you try to throw bs, guess what, there wasn’t a Bowl slot open for these teams. They would of loved to play in the big bowl game yet gotta put conference champs like a Texas and so on in a big bowl game. Plus remember also there was only 18 bowl games then unlike today. Gonna fault anything, it’s the contracts of the bowls with conferences.
But low life, what you can’t except is this, Big 8 is the first conference to have 4 teams that won 10 games and finish Top 10. Your precious SEC couldn’t do it right away. The SEC is an overrated conference

*"Big 8 is the first conference to have 4 teams that won 10 games and finish Top 10"*

and LOL.
Neb faced
* 5 of its 11 regular season opponents with 1st yr coaches (never happened for a team that is claimed by its fans as greatest ever).
* a 6th coach in his 2nd year that took over a program that had not won more than 5 games in any of the previous 11 seasons
* a 7th team that most likely knew that it would cancel football at the end of the season, which it did.
SC? So you remember the 2010 Auburn 56, SC 17 blowout in what is still the worst loss of 30 SEC champ games to date, right? And who was the coach of SC then? "...if Nebraska can somehow someway..." hahahaha

2 games after Neb beat FL,
#1 Neb lost to #17 ASU 19-0. Only 1 of 3 shutouts for Osborne and his 10th worst lost.
#1 Neb did not score a point against ASU, but every other team (11) that year did. And 10 of the 11 were UNRANKED teams . Neb finished (11-2) and ranked #6.
WASH scored 42 against ASU
USC 35
UCLA 34
OREGON 27
OR ST 14
AR 14
Stanford 9
3 others scored 7
NEB *"0000000"* points but yet Neb scored 49+ pts in over half their games, 60+ in 3 games, 70+ in one game.
Travis, be a man and admit that Neb did not show up. But then you have a problem regarding FL not showing up, dont you. You POS weasel.
About FL leading after qtr 1. Yes, but Neb lead more mins of first Neb 7, FL 4, Tie (0-0), 4.
@@robjohnson8861 - The utter stupidity of this comment is astounding, even for an autistic dipsnit like you.
@@rooh5825 So, you wanna make the argument that Neb showed up against ASU? Please try to pull that off.
@@rooh5825 don’t bother, Rob is a little boy sitting in momma’s basement for his safe space thinking he knows sports when he hasn’t even put on a uniform let alone even practiced or played in a game.
@@robjohnson8861 1996 was a bad year for Nebraska and their fans. They lost to Arizona State (a shutout no less) And lost to Texas in the first Big 12 championship game. Any other team would have been ecstatic about an 11-2 record, but in Nebraska, back then, it was a disappointment. I guess the fans got a little spoiled over the years.
This shows why i have never believed in any of Lee Corso's picks.
Brent Mustyberger complimented us?!?!?!
I think you are a honest man, there are a couple teams from the gators recently that could have give them a run, but you are right, best college football team ever. People don't remember how bad ass that defense was for that team. Everyone remembers Frazier, but the Gators Offense was the best seen in decades and they stopped em and took them out to their game.
If FL's offense that night was the best seen in decades then what
was Neb's offense 2 games later, same field?
Sh*t happens and teams don't show up!
"Nebraska won't be able to handle playing on grass... Nebraska will be obliterated by Florida's speed.."
Nebraska had confidence and a will to win, the Game was amazing.
Yeah, so did ASU 2 games after this
#17 ASU 19, #1 Neb 0. LOL
@@robjohnson8861 1996 Nebraska wasn't 1995 Nebraska.. A lot of players from 1995 weren't on the 1996 roster including Tommie Frazier... ASU was a solid team in 96 no doubt
@RaidersACDC 489 Neb was #1. How many in the 1000's of games you could research, would you find a #1 team scoring 0 points?
@@mas5867idk maybe your LSU Tigers there Rob
The Nebraska players, after looking at film of Florida, knew the game wouldn't be close. Tom O knew it wouldn't be close. Florida's O line and D line couldn't hold up to the pressure the Huskers brought all night.
I wonder if the ASU players 2 games into the 96 season knew that they could keep Neb from scoring?
@@robjohnson8861 I doubt they did. I'm sure they realized many of the Huskers players from the two national championship teams had graduated or left for the pros and there were lots of first year starters. The longer Nebraska let them stay in the game, their confidence increased to a point that they felt victory was a distinct possibility.
So I wonder what these so-called "experts" were thinking when it was 35-10 at half time? And I wonder how the grass slowed down Nebraska's pass rush when they crushed Wuerffel for a safety, which broke the game wide open?
Auburn 56, Spurrier 17. 2010 SEC championship. Still the worst loss in 30 SEC CC games. Now that is wide open. Osborne beat a coach known for some bigtime let downs. Just sayin.
@@robjohnson8861 - "just sayin" something stupid, again, and again, and again. Just give it up you idiot, like that dumb video you made on your account, you are about as dense as a cinder block. "Sporting News, USA Today, NFL.com, LA Times..."
@@rooh5825 Everybody, RooHoo has a hard on for me.
@@rooh5825 look, Rob is having dreams about you
@@sorney98 - well, she probably has a thing for me, most girly girls like Rob do LMAO
This video is as funny as the 2016 Presidential Election night videos.
These "Experts" should have all been fired after this.
Ok kids what did we learn???? A dominate defense and a smash mouth running game wins Championships!!!!!!!!!!
These guys must've been smoking grass if they thought the playing surface was going to be a factor.
What was the factor 2 games later when Neb played in Tempe and didn't score?
Listening to experts all my life I finally realized they do well to get it right 50% of the time. That 1995 N team was a super bowl team.
They probably would had over 1,000 yards rushing on artificial turf.
1:14 I never knew that Mean Gene Okerlund was a football commentator. LOL
Best team ever! (95-96) Nebraska. The game was a complete joke🤣🤣🤣
Never thought for a second Florida would win. Knew when Nebraska punched them in the mouth, they'd back down.
My mother-in-law also said Florida would win. I , like you, never thought Florida was all that special.
*"Never thought for a second Florida would win. Knew when Nebraska punched them in the mouth, they'd back down."*
BS!. 1-7 in their last 8 bowls and you never thought for a second. You too would be a good student in Osborne's how to sell manure school.
@@robjohnson8861 and we’ll go to Alabama and learn how to live off momma. Seems to be working just as well for you
The Nebraska O-line didn't allow a single sack that year.
Nor did it have 1 penalty levied against it either
"...and then Florida will start pounding the ball."
They got it wrong by about 3 hours. Game 2 of 96. #17 ASU 19, #1 Neb 0
My favorite thing about this video is the amazing golden eagle on Bobby Bowden's shoulder.
Weird hearing "Big 8".....
Yep, but the Big 8 can say they went out with a bang by being the first conference to have 4 teams win 10 games and also Top 10. Big 8 goes out with a bang!
Wow, I almost forgot about the good ole days when ESPN was actually about sports...
Lee... 62-24 Nebraska!
Man, I love good commentary...
1995 Nebraska would beat 2001 Miami by 2 touchdowns. 2019 LSU by 3 touchdowns.
Why in 2021 would you mention LSU2019 out of the clear blue?
@@robjohnson8861 - The real question is: why do you continue to show up and get owned by Nebraska fans?
@@rooh5825 because he’s a worthless little troll trying to prove that sitting in momma’s basement, behind a computer you can accomplish anything. So far the only thing he’s accomplished is showing who he truly is, a worthless troll
I've really had a lot of fun owning him though, he's like my little pet goat. He shows up and types up a lot of bla bla bla, and I never read it, I just make fun of him hahaha.
@@rooh5825 good way to put it. I’ve been owning him for a while too. He recently just called me a snowflake which made me laugh, yet he shows all the signs of him being a snow flake
The Huskers sooooo crushed the Gators that year! I loved it.
The Sun Devils were probably more happy 2 games later. You remember #17 ASU 19, #1 Neb 0.
Good thing they didn't play on turf, I guess.
We practiced 3 of every 5 days on grass.......3 weeks straight on grass every day before the game........these guys.......I don't have enought time or words.......
lol Aaron Graham.
Isn’t funny how these two dudes man pry the worst prediction of all time and are no longer on tv
Grass... i'm glad grass.. isn't grass.. but grass.. ok grass.. so grass.. didn't matter
Get off my lawn.
Brandon-well played.
There are a lot more people picking Nebraska than I expected.
As a Florida fan, I blame the Corso curse 😉
Video was worth it just to see John Hadley when he still had hair!
Guess GRASS wasn't an advantage huh? annnnnnnd It WASN'T EVEN CLOSE! Gator Bait my foot! LOL GBR! :-)
Great video!
Loved the Sega match-up.. haha
That one Florida player said "a dubba dubba dib dub dub dub dibba". Wiser words were never heard.
Great clips. Thanks huskersva
Florida’s D-Train got derailed.🚂 Toot! Toot! 😂😂😂
That grass slowed down Nebraska to the point where Nebraska only won by 38 points and scored 62 total in a game where everyone was sure that Nebraska couldn't score as often as they had hoped.
Remember being in Georgia and being only one pulling for Nebraska. What a good night.
When Corso picked Florida, you knew Nebraska was a cinch.
The damnest thing happened though. He claimed Frazier was one of the best ever too. Who wants to pick cherries?
