0:48 something about the idea of this is really funny to me beyond it being a good scary idea. I just imagine pressing start game and it does a dramatic camera pan into the character pov, never getting that monster out of sight, and at that point the panic I can see overcoming the player is truly the best thing to imagine.
For being made by a 13 year old this game hints at a lo of psychological things. Obviously the spaces getting tighter but also the gurneys, which in a way remind people the inevitability of death. These things may be things that were just picked up from playing other horror games but it's still really cool.
Hey Gurnee that slowly follows you around and that you see on the home screen and when you start the game it's just there and as you try to move away it follows you. Somebody make this happen I don't have time right now.
16:25 the Gurney's aren't scary so much as the association, you really only see those when someone is near death whether it's from sickness or injury, or to transport bodies. Seeing a room full of Gurneys makes your brain immediately associate that with 'death happens here'
At first I thought "ah this game is kinda stinky" but now with the context that it was made in 2 weeks by a 13 year old it's genuinely very impressive I hope he keeps up and makes something truly great
A credenza is a wide, low to the ground, shallow dining room sideboard with several storage cabinets, typically with no legs, and a polished top which can be used as a buffet table. In the Middle Ages, it was customary for members of noble families to have a servant taste their food before it was served to ensure it didn't contain poison. The tasting was done at a dining room sideboard buffet table. This table would eventually be referred to as the credenza, which is Italian for "confidence", as they wanted to be confident that they weren't being poisoned by their enemies.

Thankyou for bringing a smile to my face, even in my bleakest moments 💕
This game does mood and setting very well. Its plagued by marketplace assets and poorly animated monsters, but the solo dev behind it has talent! Its very impressive.
lol when you were making the noises while turning it brought back a memory of my brother and I at a haunted hay ride for Halloween. To make it less scary, we forced out laughter and would make jokes about the stuff that wasn't supposed to be funny. It's the best when you have someone else's energy to feed off of. It was good fun!
I’ve had a similar idea to what mark mentioned at the beginning of the video. It’s just an idea, though. I’m not a game developer. Anyway, I thought about a wakeup sequence where you calmly sit up in bed. It’s day outside and the sunshine hitting the white curtains on your windows lights your room up nicely. You take the covers off of you and slide over to the edge of the bed. You look to your left and see a bottle of pills and are prompted to take them. You pick up the bottle and suddenly, an explosion shatters the silence and sends you tumbling outside of your home on and onto the street a story below. Your head is spinning, your vision is blurry, and you’re injured, but you manage to catch a brief glimpse of the monster that did this. You see they are preparing to attack again. You muster up the strength to get up and a chase sequence begins. You run through the streets, only now realizing that the world has gone to hell. Abandoned cars, dead bodies, and debris from destroyed buildings crowd the street and cut off some paths. You narrowly avoid attack after attack before finding shelter in some creepy abandoned place. Maybe a sewer or an abandoned building. From this point forward, a more or less traditional horror experience can begin. I just thought this would be a different intro to horror games. Most horror games start off slow and slowly build tension. There’s nothing wrong with that approach but I think it would be cool to see something like this in a horror game.
I used to have nightmares like this. Watching this reactivated some sort of fear I've long forgotten, but Mark up there really makes the entire thing funny. Thanks Mark.
16:10 I mean...same applies about the mandatory wheel chair in a horror game. Also hats off to this boy, its impressive he made something like this at such age.
The idea at the start is crazy because the monster on the menu makes you think its chill cuz the game hasnt started yet but you hit play and it's immediately time to survive. Its almost like oh shit he could've killed me already but just hasnt
The game had some good moments, reminded me of some other fun horror games, but the developer at the end saying he was 13 was the biggest surprise in the game. Keep up the great work, hopefully Mark will play more games from you in the future.
0:45 That is an amazingly good idea. The monster on screen seems to be dead, but when you press start, the camera suddenly pans out as it comes to life, telling you to run. You have an entire chase sequence running through doors, evading obstacles, until it catches you and kills your character. Cue intro cinematic and enter main character's dialogue of how he is about to enter haunted setting.
You know when somebody has no shame and is a man when he violently scratches his balls on camera and keeps it in the video. Mark is a fucking legend and so essential to youtube XD
I think you nailed it on the head with the gurney thing. I don't think people think about it, they just know it's been used in horror before. I don't know which horror game made it a common horror trope, but games like Silent Hill and Alan Wake used them allot because it was symbolic of the plot.
Even though this game isn't very scary and uses mainly jumpscares for it's horror, the fact that a 13 year old made this is extremely impressive! Especially, since it was made in only 2 weeks! The coolest part was definitely the ceiling monsters, in my opinion. Best wishes Vasco, if you want to make more games, keep practicing and learning! I bet some day in the future you'll make some really awesome stuff! 👍
21:25 Grats, Vasco! I'm impressed at what ye accomplished at age 13 in just 2 weeks! The only critique I can offer is to keep in mind basic physics. The part at 19:55 where the door behind the boards were both knocked down. The door should've been in the back under the boards. The way ye had them implies the door somehow went thru the boards and landed in the front of the barrier boards whilst the boards somehow managed to pass thru the door and land in the back.
When mark enters the room around 14:00 Mark started running then pausing then back to running, I got Jim Carry vibes. So funny Mark keep it up I wouldn’t know what to watch without you.

At first, I agreed with you that it should've been East North West South in order of the seasons if you start with Spring. But then I realized that mentality only applies in the Northern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, the equivalent order would be Autumn Winter Spring Summer. So, having the puzzle order be exactly as it's written actually makes sense to be more universal. Honestly, prolly cause bros been getting sleep with his medication change.
Its a good thing :)
Also he's probably been working really hard this past year on a movie coming up probably
i think hes just finally had time to catch his breath, filming a movie in a year and finalizing everything must be so stressful, i hope hes had plenty of time to rest :)
Agreed!!!!
It’s probably the medication he’s taking. It’s basically the equivalent to speed lol
Mark scratching himself while maintaining intense eye contact for 5 seconds was the best laugh I had this year!

That 13y/o is absolutely gonna go places, i hope he keeps at horror games as he has a good sense for bamboozling/cornering the player. Plus mark was second guessing the jumpscares nonstop, thats good suspense
Edit: wow 1k, thank you kindly, all you beautiful folk!
Yeah same
0:48 something about the idea of this is really funny to me beyond it being a good scary idea. I just imagine pressing start game and it does a dramatic camera pan into the character pov, never getting that monster out of sight, and at that point the panic I can see overcoming the player is truly the best thing to imagine.
Something about the player realizing slowly that they need to do something here, or they’re screwed, sounds like the funniest thing
For being made by a 13 year old this game hints at a lo of psychological things. Obviously the spaces getting tighter but also the gurneys, which in a way remind people the inevitability of death. These things may be things that were just picked up from playing other horror games but it's still really cool.
Someone needs to make a whole game for him with just gurneys
And the monster is a walking gurney.
@@pison1000 yes
Hey Gurnee that slowly follows you around and that you see on the home screen and when you start the game it's just there and as you try to move away it follows you. Somebody make this happen I don't have time right now.

A flashlight that actually looks like it works like an actual flashlight, amazing
16:25 the Gurney's aren't scary so much as the association, you really only see those when someone is near death whether it's from sickness or injury, or to transport bodies. Seeing a room full of Gurneys makes your brain immediately associate that with 'death happens here'
At first I thought "ah this game is kinda stinky" but now with the context that it was made in 2 weeks by a 13 year old it's genuinely very impressive I hope he keeps up and makes something truly great
What software was it?
Yeah it's better than anything I've ever made! (I haven't made a any horror games yet but I plan in the future BUT also it's genuinely pretty decent!)
18:10 “Skrrr, newrrm” is such an inspirational saying. I am extremely moved.
Markiplier's slowly but surely getting sick of the modern horror game tropes, and it rocks.
I love how every single indie horror game that mark plays is listed as Five Nights at Freddy’s

@@Ghibli_Otaku thats what i thought
"good JOG NOOOO"

I used to have nightmares like this. Watching this reactivated some sort of fear I've long forgotten, but Mark up there really makes the entire thing funny. Thanks Mark.
mark opening his video with the greatest idea for a horror game i've ever heard is pretty on point for him
16:10 I mean...same applies about the mandatory wheel chair in a horror game. Also hats off to this boy, its impressive he made something like this at such age.
the face of disappointment 💀💀 12:50
The idea at the start is crazy because the monster on the menu makes you think its chill cuz the game hasnt started yet but you hit play and it's immediately time to survive. Its almost like oh shit he could've killed me already but just hasnt
The game had some good moments, reminded me of some other fun horror games, but the developer at the end saying he was 13 was the biggest surprise in the game. Keep up the great work, hopefully Mark will play more games from you in the future.
Being 13 and making something this good with promise is a feat all on its own.
Brilliant!
I like when a horror game gets to mark, u can clearly see his antics becoming defenses for himself instead of just content for us xD
12:36 😂 the fact mark thought he was onto something was hilarious. I was dying 😂😂
Mark might’ve just invented a new way of creating horror games

I think you nailed it on the head with the gurney thing. I don't think people think about it, they just know it's been used in horror before. I don't know which horror game made it a common horror trope, but games like Silent Hill and Alan Wake used them allot because it was symbolic of the plot.
I miss seeing Lixian pop up in Mark's vids. Doesn't seem to happen as much these days. Lixian, ur my fav and I big preesh you! :3

(Personally, I say the NH seasons in order as Winter Spring Summer Autumn lol)
I'm glad Mark's finally bringing the horror gurney discourse to light. This is a very important issue we need to discuss.
