@@marcusmcgill4423 this was nowhere near the Bond Fleming envisioned. That Bond was not so trigger happy and was a former officer in the British Navy. This Bond was still OK but a stand apart. What happened to him in the last movie definitely is not thematic.

EON productions, who own the rights to make the Bond films, were able to buy back the rights to the Casino Royale novel (which Ian Fleming had sold to a movie producer back in the 1950s in the hope of getting a Bond film made), and the Bond producers decided to film that novel next. They wanted to go back to a darker, grittier Bond, at the beginning of his journey as a ‘00,’ so what better way to show that then by using the source material of the first James Bond novel, ‘Casino Royale.’
The producers went in this direction, mainly in response to how over the top (in terms of gadgets and spectacle) the previous Bond film, ‘Die Another Day,’ had turned out. So Pierce Brosnan was out and Daniel Craig was in! The film follows the novel quite closely. At the beginning of the book, Bond is already in France and about to have his tussle with the villain, Le Chiffre at the casino. All the stuff from the start of the film, right up to when Bond enters the casino, wasn’t in the novel. At the start of the novel it’s mentioned that Bond has only just recently gained the ‘00’ prefix, which allows an agent to kill in the line of his duty. Fleming doesn’t tell the reader who the two kills were, for Bond to gain his ‘00’ status.
The stuff with the Ugandans, the stair well fight, Bond drinking the drugged Martini and his subsequent resuscitation with Vesper’s help, wasn’t in the novel. Mathis is an ally of Bond in the novels and is not a traitor. Felix Leiter is introduced in this novel as well, but his character is a straw haired blond white Texan. In the novel (as in the film), Le Chiffre beats Bond and Leiter comes to his rescue with the additional funds. The torture sequence in the film is the same as in the novel, but in the book, Le Chiffre uses a carpet beater to attack Bond’s manhood.
The book ends with Bond finding Vesper in bed, dead from a self inflicted overdose, and Bond reads a letter from her which explains why she betrayed him. The last line of the book has Bond on the telephone saying, “The bitch is dead!” Vesper’s death in both the novel and the film hardens Bond to distance himself from true love in his subsequent missions, making him the hard nosed, blunt instrument we’ve all come to love.
Did you notice that throughout the film the James Bond theme is never played, especially during the action scenes? We hear little, half snippets of it, but it’s not until the last scene, when the once rough around the edges Bond has become the suave, sophisticated Bond we’ve come to know from the previous 20 films appears, that this is the first time we hear the James Bond theme in its entirety, and only after he says, “Bond, James Bond,” in that way, for the very first time in the film.
I loved Craig in this film, but grew to dislike him in his subsequent four films, mainly because those films couldn’t hold a candle to the story and plot of Casino Royale. The reason? Because no one can write a Bond story better than Ian Fleming. Craig was, IMO, given poor story lines with ridiculous villains and uninspiring action sequences (compared to Casino Royale) and by the end, I think most Bond fans were pleased that the Craig Bond era was finally over. I know I was.

Bond played baccarat in the past because that was the popular game in casinos when Ian Fleming wrote the novels. He would’ve used something else had that been the game in fashion.
Today, Texas Hold’em Poker is the most popular game in casinos worldwide. It’s a superior game to baccarat as well, as Fleming acknowledged.
Baccarat relies entirely on luck. Poker is a game of skill. That Bond is a great poker player says something about his character and how smart and competent he is.

To rebuttal homie’s comment in regards to why they are rebooting the franchise it isn’t because of the super realistic style. It’s simply because Daniel Craig is too old and tired to continue in the role. The man was born for five films in the span of almost 15 years and in that time, his body took way too much damage doing his own stunts. Now. As to the films if you do continue, they do in fact, get better with the exception of two out of the five films. Quanto solace, which is the next film after casino Royale does feel very slow in terms of plot, but you could fault that due to the writer’s strike of 08, and the films script was left to be written by Craig and the Director. But once you get to Skyfall, which is arguably the best of the Craig Era, the remainder of his tenure is for the most part smooth sailing.

This movie is what REALLY got me into James Bond 👨🏼‍💼 🔫! I grew up watching the old James Bond films as a child & liked them, but they WERE campy & you never felt that James was in danger. Plus, James was non-emotional & one dimensional. He was just about completing the mission & getting draws 👙💁🏼‍♀️. With Daniel Craig's introduction into the franchise with this film, he kept that debonair nature of the other incarnations of Bond, but gave him a relatable human side with him actually having a RELATIONSHIP with Vesper in this movie. It really made you care what happen to him & added so much richness to the franchise. Daniel Craig is my FAVORITE "Bond" --- HANDS DOWN! Next is Sean Connery's "Bond." Roger Moore was OK as Bond. Nothing at all grabbed me about Pierce Brosnan's or Timothy Dalton's interpretation.

Actually your comment about where the FBI works, I had a buddy who was in a some sort of very specialized unit of the military. He told me that the when the CIA needs to ...take care of people... That are needing to be very quietly done. They actually use very specialized people from the FBI to send to "resolve" the issue. I dont know if this is true, but I have no reason to disagree.

Syntell, he didn't tip him anything. Tournament chips have no cash value at the casino They are literally only made and used for poker tournaments. If you look at chips, you won't find a "$" on there anywhere. It is one thousand chips, not one thousand dollars.

This new actor portrays the degree of sociopathy of people in this business ;-) Le Cheffe looks like Putin. First 4 movies in this series are great, 5th movie is a letdown.

THe first few Bond's of Craig were good, however recently they've made the last few movies for 'modern audiences' and Bond is feminine and is constantly saved by 'strong female characters' the kind that appear in all modern movies and the reason why movies and cinema is currently dying on it's ar$e. The real audience doesn't want it, it's why Star Wars has been utterly derstroyed and why the likes of Top Gun Maverick killed it at the box office. I have zero hope for the future of Bond. The Franchise is dead and will be for the next 10 or 20 years until Hollywood stops putting identity politics into everything
