I want to give Darrell Hammond a big hug. Not only did he do us all a big service by making us laugh on SNL but also doing the public a great service by being vulnerable and sharing his story and not sugarcoating it one bit. Darrell Hammond, we love you and you deserve all the love the world has to offer.

"This too shall pass." As a fellow childhood abuse survivor, I struggle at times with spiraling into panic shutdown crisis mode esp anytime I'm engaged with difficult/toxic people. I've realized I probably have some kind of cptsd...and it has taken me a long time to truly trust and be vulnerable with a very small circle of close friends. Yes, amen to earth angels/ guardians/ kind humans who want us survivors to still go on with our lives. To thrive. To be a light. After decades of enduring how our abusers were actively terrorizing us, tearing us down and instilling deep fear/mistrust in humanity early on- the light is still within us, buried from trauma, but still there. However, as Darrell discovered along with survivors like us, we have to seek appropriate support. And trust in ourselves again to recover, heal and grow with love.
I appreciate when Darrell mentioned about trying to prep for "grizzly bears"/toxic ppl; I try not to be hard on myself when I encounter one and find myself sucked into their pyscho- drama I didn't audition for 😅 the fact is that it's hard avoiding difficult ppl/situations - we are all human. All the best to you, Darrell! And thanks for sharing your stories as I'm sure it still is very painful to retell many parts of it. And here's to all of us childhood abuse survivors now grown adults- let's keep spreading our wings and soar above the haters down there, lol. 😂❤🎉

Same here, just the ineffable way that I can identify with the parental abuse was a tear jerker, but some of the things they said such as "this too shall pass", which I've always heard, but in this context made me... I don't know, I understand them and just knowing that I'm far from alone is powerful and emotional. The talk therapy, CBT, the ketamine infusion therapy, the classic psychedelics (mushrooms in my case) used in a strictly therapeutic manner. The way that their parents are, especially Darrell's mostly since he talked about it the most, the ruminating about who I would be if I had a stable, loving environment, working yourself to death or harming yourself whether through drugs and addiction or bad relationships or whatever, it just seems so perfectly tailored to be a an apples to apples comparison of my life. Not to mention the 5 guys that helped someone for free got me, because I am one of those 5 guys as I love helping others even if I don't know them, and also I feel helping others is helping myself vicariously through them. I am glad they spoke so openly about it, I'm glad more people are, and I'm glad everyone is here in the comments talking about it. Very powerful.
Whoever you are reading this, I love you and you are worthy

    • @triggerhappy77707

@MsWing-ijnb I don't have much to add, but my story is very similar to yours and from what I can tell you seem to have a similar general disposition on others.. All that is to say, as I'm sure you know, you aren't alone and I appreciate who you are and for being open about it.
Keep working at it, it gets much easier to open up about even terrible traumas. I hope you find everything you are looking for and deserve, along with everyone else in the comments section commenting about similar things. Much love, hang in there everyone

I'm a new father and recently, for some reason, every single podcast I listen to is touching on parenting and how unfathomably damaging it can be to have a parent that doesn't care, love, feel obligated on some level to be there for their child.
It's fuckin mind-blowing to me how anyone could look at a child, THEIR child, and not be overcome with love for it.
Thanks for this, Neal. And thank you for being strong enough to say this shit, Darrell.

I relate to this episode more than I should. One of the most redeeming feelings in the world is having the opportunity to "make it right" and not subject my kids to the same ptsd inducing way of growing up. Will I mess them up in some way? Of course. But they will for damn sure know they were loved, seen and taken care of to the best of my abilities. You get to be a kid one time.

I think one of the interesting things about this podcast is to watch all of them and contrast the differences of our human experiences and also the similarities.
