  • The emphasis on this video is mainly the importance of Shaping, the 5th Element of Singing, and using the proper accent for a particular genre of music. I also go over primary melody and transitional notes and how to break them down. If you would like to learn how to master these techniques check out my online course singingfromscratch.thinkific.....

      I'm dutch, born and raised. We get to learn English in the British way. Here's a tip, watch a lot of American spoken movies/series, with subs in your language. After 2 or 3 months, watch the same thing again but with the American subs. And after another 2 or 3 months, watch the same thing again, but without any subtitles. You'll see that your American WILL improve :)

    Love this demonstration. I've gotten down Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard easily as my voice is already pretty nasaly. I feel results you'll get depend on what your natural voice sounds like, as well as stuff like how big or small you are physically. Biggest thing I see people do when doing country is forgetting to put belly air behind their vocals.

    Mike - this is great, well done, very clear and informative. As a UK Brad Paisley fan and a performer this is very helpful. Like you I've listened a lot to his voice and also the recording technique. Brad obviously has access to the best gear - he uses a Telefunken 251 microphone for recording (about $12000) But he also makes use of the 'Nashville' sound which a lot of country singers do. This involves recording a very close exact harmony with the main vocal and mixing it well behind the main voice. So its there - but not 'in your face'.....the net result is a much nicer thicker sound without the listener noticing that there is a harmony present. I've looked for such an effect for live performance, but haven't found anything yet (I have a Boss V8 which doesn't quite cut it!) Brad's recorded sound is obviously engineered by experts in the studio with high tech equipment. Thanks again - great post! Keith

    Man the accent changes everything. It sounds like a different genre without it. Maybe something Ed Sheron would sing. I'm having trouble with low notes and keeping the accent. I think I just need to practice more scales since I usually sing in a higher pitch. I grew up with mostly Rock but I love the deep sound of country singers.

      I've had sung both. When I say R&B though I mean old school. Dobie Gray, Wilson Pickett, etc. Really, it's about the accent of the culture the genre of music is found in. Want to nail country? Learn how to speak with a southern or Texan accent. Feel how it is shaped in your mouth and then sing with those muscular tensions.

    Thank you for choosing Mister Paisley: his vocal range matches mine (though I think my range is slightly wider). Personally I would not emulate Mister Paisley due to his nasal resonance--- I dislike it, and I reject the notion that it makes the sound "Country." I have found some challenge in Eddy Arnold's THEN YOU CAN TELL ME GOOD-BYE.

      Same, been a metal musician all my life, tried to sing country once and it's like a big f u from the universe because that's what I'm gonna be able to write and sing good instead of being able to sing like I want lmao I'm from Georgia too, so I'm about to start my journey of learning to sing country and get some people to notice me lmao like ofcoarse this is what I'm gonna be good at, some of the music I write is here on UA-cam from my old band if you want to check it out, it's called "the fear frequency" listen to mr bleusox or 1111 if you want to check it out

      lol! Well, I'd have to say that it is more important to me to write and sing what I want when I want without obligation or expectation. Singing the same show 265 nights a year over and over never really appealed to me. I've done the road gig. It's everything you hate about travel without getting to experience everything you love about it. Fame is fleeting and fortune is subjective.

    George strait? Aaron Tippons amazing vocals? Kenny Chesney? Of all people you picked Brad Paisley, Joe Diffie is better than him

    • @singingfromscratch_official
      @singingfromscratch_official  2 місяці тому

      Love King George, being a Texan. Adelida is my favorite of his to perform oddly enough. Joe Diffie is one of my favorites as well as Aaron. All of those guys are amazing for sure. I've performed song by all of them. Two reasons why I picked Brad's song. One it has a heavier accent then most of the others you listed (which was the point of the video) and two, it was a song I had recently rehearsed and performed for a gig. So it was fresh in me brain. And as much as I dig the other guys, you have to admit. They can't even touch Brad's guitar playing. The guys a monster. And he has some really entertaining lyrics.
