THIS is THE TMT I know & love so much ! When they do pop, soul & Doo Wop , there is just no one better. When they get into jazz, vocalese, & scat, I get lost . I loved the " Brasil" album, too.-----This one was penned by the Great, GREAT, Rod Temperton, with Stevie Wonder helping out. ----Janis on lead. -------MJL, 76 y/o
The spice of life is in all of the variety Some of a faithful life seek out piety Some of wayward life seek sobriety Some searching variety face anxiety Variety is the spice of life in society
This song was originally recorded by Michael Jackson for his Thriller album in 1982. Unfortunately the song was never released. So he gave the song to The Manhattan Transfer in 1983!
This is very nice. But if you listen carefully this is like a copy of Baby Be Mine. It's completely similiar. So why would Michael put on album 2 comparable songs. But I'm so mad Michael's version didn't appear on Thriller 40..there are more songs like this one to put on the record and this definitely deserve a place.
Again a Rod Temperton song...quality as ever..songs that hold up from the beginning to the end...and a surprising Stevie Wonder harmonica who has to jump on the Rod Temperton bandwagon and come up with a rythmicaly and melodicaly solo that really fits well....but ok ..Stevie Wonder..they knew who to ask!!
Listen closely and you'll hear in this track a lot of Michael Jackson's "Baby Be Mine". Rod Temperton was writer for both songs. Always recycle. Seriously though, both are excellent songs.
There are 2 very funky guitar parts going but they are mixed way too low. Bringing those up in the mix would change the whole feel of the track to funk-at!
This song remind me (baby be mine) of Michael Jackson.❤️ In fact Is the same author R. Temperton. ❤️
Rod T was the man back in the day.
This song was for the Thriller Album, but it didn't become clear, I think it was because it was similar to Baby be Mine
Yes i think so. Thanks
Assolutamente sì! Io la mixerei con Down on the Street degli Shakatak 😊

Yes friend Is perfect👍
Stevie Wonder on the harmonica! Yassss!
I just heard this for the first time about a month ago and as soon as I heard that harmonica, I knew that sound could be only one person.
Just found this on 7 inch for 50p my dad worked with stevie wonder..thanks for the info
Good song by the Manhattan Transfer. Nice, and smooth Jazz from a group that knew how to harmonize! Thanks for sharing, and God bless you!
Don’t make ‘em like this no more !
Rod Temperton was a genius songwriter and once with the group Heatwave. Love this song.
Also reminiscent of Quincy Jones' "Razzmatazz"
it’s cuz they’re both 80s post-disco, best genre ❤
Both are Rod Temperton compositions.
Just my kind of music

Some of wayward life seek sobriety
Some searching variety face anxiety
Variety is the spice of life in society
THhs is another hit by the late-great, Rod Temperton. Janis is on the lead, from '82.
Superb 80s Song x ❤

If this isn't 1980s N.Y.C I don't know what is
Great dance floor funk!
Underrated album. 🏆🙌🏾👍🏾
Saw them perform this on Soul train as a kid
この曲を聴くと何故かケニーロギンスのハートトゥハートを想い出します

I'm really happy that he did -- they did a superb job!!!
Stevie Wonder's harmonica solo...magic!

Chorus / intro melody is pretty much like Baby Be Mine!

Manhattan Transfer vocal harmonies are originally theirs, it's not for other groups to copy. They can't tho'

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO VOCAL HARMONY?????
There are 2 very funky guitar parts going but they are mixed way too low. Bringing those up in the mix would change the whole feel of the track to funk-at!
Rod Temperton composed it and arranged it. Just like he did with WackoJacko.
His name is Michael Jackson, clown.
Who are you again? Lmao!
