Steve I'm a new subscriber and have binge watched your videos all day, I'm a veteran and was diagnosed PTSD and severe anxiety disorder but watching your videos has somehow put me at ease. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming.
"Steve, you were in a car accident and we had to amputate your arm" "Pretty sure that hurts. Let me poke the stump and make sure. Yup, that's searing pain right there..."
No joke. I’ve recently had some health issues that are causing constant anxiety and occasional attacks. I watch these videos and it actually helps! It’s distracting without being ‘exciting’. Steve is literally my hero right now.
My internal monologue as I watch these videos is always like "Steve wait... no don't eat that... okay good he's not... no Steve come on... oh God no, no Steve that's going to kill you... oh god stop no what are you doing..."
Though with Ian he admit things weren't better in the old days. but instead admits new stuff is just vastly better, since there has been more time to develop and refine things.
New to watching your videos and I gotta say it's very entertaining and gives a nice historical lesson as well. Every time you put stuff on a tray and say "nice" cracks me and my fiancé up. Keep it up.
Stumbled across your videos and I've literally watched them all day! I've heard my dad talk about old Navy MREs back from Vietnam era and it's cool to see exactly what he's talking about. Love the videos!
Man, I love your curious "Hmm this isn't bad" followed by a "Oh sweet Jesus what am I doing with my life", at least somebody is eating old food to show not all old food is "bad"
Ok dude...you've completely sucked me in.....you are severely entertaining for some odd ass reason. I even created a forum account on mreinfo....just to see what you're up to. You crack me the hell up. Can't stop trying the strange and bizarre stuff.....The shortbread cookie bit just busted me the hell up. I did 4 years in the Army back in the 80's....survived the "4 fingers of death, and Chicken ala Puke".....but these old ones are amazing.
That short bread freaking killed me! xD "Mm!It's sweet...with a...ugh...UGH!" Like that changed for the worst so quickly and the sounds you made were hilarious!
It must have been exposed to elevated temperatures over its 40+ year journey. Refrigeration or a dry and cool cellar may have kept the sucrose tablets from melting and tainting the other items. Your videos are educational and intriguing, keep it up!
Ooh shortbread.. yeah.. *nibbles*.. yeah it taste goo.. ooh.. oh god.. *trows piece on the table*.. tastes like rancidity.. no..noo..way..*pauses...grabs piece from plate...bites another piece off* :-D Hero!
I can only imagine what king Tut’s remains would actually taste like. Probably how one might imagine dust, soil, salt and pesticides tasting like all at once.
The 1961 West German pemmican looked way better preserved, at least it didn't bulge or smell "rancid". He seemed to enjoy it much more. I think it was nearly all meat, which is why it wouldn't have turned as much.
Yeah it should have had cigs or a plug of tobacco. If you watch the found film of the Russan guy on the life boat having a smoke was one of the things he fantasized about.
This is still cool, I was in the US Navy as part of an F-14 tomcat squadron aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga during the first Gulf war, and I remember looking at those big "barrels" fixed to the side of the ship and I always heard there was a 9 mm handgun for the highest ranking man on the liferaft and rations enough for x amount of people for 3 days, but never saw any of it! So this is cool to see
Watching your videos made me order some Chuckles and some Charms candies online from Old Time Candy which arrived today. Both are really good; until I saw this video I had no idea that Charms even made hard candies, I was familiar with Charms Blow Pops, however. Great work!
That can of fruit pemmican...the build up was like watching a horror movie as you squirm in your seat anticipating the inevitable.. You know it's coming, and half of you is saying "Run!", but the other half is saying "Go on, then. Do it!". Props Steve, even I don't think I'd try to eat that. Although if it was meat based pemmican packed in the same can, I think it would have either dehydrated into a brick and/or gone moldy. The sugar in the fruit might have saved the day.
And I thought I'd seen all of Steve and I tripped onto this older one, NICE ! The funny part is I had a 1945 lifeboat life raft ration and the chocolate and malt milk tablets were inperfect display shape. What blew my mind is your stranded at sea who is packing the P38? The C-1 survival vest ration had one taped to each ration. This should have had the key type opening system. You Steve are one brave cat for trying this stuff!
whike watching this my son (2) kept saying steve font eat the poop lol he thought the fruit and chocolate were poop lol but other then that hes like his mommy and love your channel keep coming with videos 😊❤
I always wish I could see some if these rations life's before they land on youre table ... like that bullet in the beginning of that nicholas cage movie Lord of War.

I still buy the SOS Bars to throw in our Get Home Bags we keep in our vehicles. Just an Apple/Cinnamon dense cakes scored into 3 portions per cake. Rather bland and not thirst provoking. They'll keep you alive if you have to hoof it to get home. I also keep a can of Spam in each bag. It can be eaten hot or cold. Good for protein and fats. Never thought about looking for Life Raft Rations. I'll have to check them out.
We had the 1973 version in the inflatable life rafts and one hoped they were still intact after two WESTPACS. In theory we would gather on deck and jump in and find a life raft. No real training on evading sharks or suchlike, but each packet was the equivalent of 12 candy Charms per man, according to our Master Chief. Not sure how well we would have fared if the reactor breached. Hope the Coasties had a P-38 available, but their emergency chow was definitely better than our candy Charms, at least if it held up.
Steve's reactions, patois and catchphrases always remind me of a guy I know from Cleveland. I wonder if Steve's from Cleveland originally. Hmm. Not bad.
How are you going to explain to the E.R. Doctors, that you've been, eating several decades old, rotten food. Lol. Your gut is made of steel. You're The Man !!!
Steve I'm a new subscriber and have binge watched your videos all day, I'm a veteran and was diagnosed PTSD and severe anxiety disorder but watching your videos has somehow put me at ease. Thanks for the videos and keep them coming.
Jason Pitts thank you Sir for your service.
Jason Pitts thank you for protecting us
Velocity Gaming no need to thank me. But you are very welcome, I would do it again if I could. I will say thank you for appreciating your veterans
thank you for your service protecting us all
Jason Pitts Thank you for your service Jason.
"Steve, you were in a car accident and we had to amputate your arm"
"Pretty sure that hurts. Let me poke the stump and make sure. Yup, that's searing pain right there..."

nice
+he pokes a stitch to hard and blood starts spraying+ "nice hiss"
Lolol
"I need to get that taste out of my mouth" *grabs and eats a 43 year old candy*
Hahaha!!
yep
It's weird but I really want to eat a jelly bar and especially a tropical chocolate bar
All of Steve's videos... they're just peaceful. It's like zen. This is therapy.
No joke. I’ve recently had some health issues that are causing constant anxiety and occasional attacks. I watch these videos and it actually helps! It’s distracting without being ‘exciting’. Steve is literally my hero right now.
"With a very sharp tone of RANCIDITY"
*sounds of disgust*
"Aw man.."
*takes another bite*
itwasabaddream kek
"I just wanna make sure."
Double check that rancidity.
Guys I found the best website that will helps you on how to survive. Here SurvivalGuide5.blogspot.com
so awesome. "That's really horrible." pauses, doubts himself, chomp, "yeah, that's awful." Gettin our money's worth.
"It tastes sweet, with an undertone of foul, and then... mint. It doesn't make any sense..." God, you crack me up :)
Chiclets contamination
My internal monologue as I watch these videos is always like "Steve wait... no don't eat that... okay good he's not... no Steve come on... oh God no, no Steve that's going to kill you... oh god stop no what are you doing..."
He's the Steve Irwin of MREs .... MRE Hunter?
You're the Forgotten Weapons of Food Ration reviews
He's even got the same hair-do. LOL. Now they've got to team up and do a co-op review channel. That would be priceless.
Lol ian and steve would make a good duo wonder if he has any guns?
Lol, we are so predictable, it's like Forgotten Weapons -> Steve automatically. :D
Quite frankly, nice.
Though with Ian he admit things weren't better in the old days. but instead admits new stuff is just vastly better, since there has been more time to develop and refine things.
Uh... mmmmm... uh, wait... eww... wait, I don't know...
Commentary gold!
and in the middle of it it he keeps on eating that's what I like about him he takes risks for his viewers.
+brah ket she must be a professional mre taster
He must have had miss Liz's class.
it's an emotional rollercoaster whenever he tastes something
Exactly
"This is just...unnngh...very sweet...and then rancid...ugh....undertones of mint and rot..." *still eats half the packet*
actorsnonactors hahahaha oh man he ate half of each one 😂
8:54 "shortbread.... smells pretty rancid" im not surprised, prolly turned into longbread by this point
Long bread.
I’m just imagining someone running with their shortbread and then it turns into a baguette and they scream
Let's get this out onto a tray...
Nice.
That's the good part!
New to watching your videos and I gotta say it's very entertaining and gives a nice historical lesson as well. Every time you put stuff on a tray and say "nice" cracks me and my fiancé up. Keep it up.
Pemmican is what American Indian tribes would make out of bear fat, berries and dried salmon. It was the first long lasting sports bars.
Yep, and they would pack it in hyde bags lined with bear grease or bison tallow.
Wtf??? I saw Pemmican and thought he was about to eat some fruit cocktail or some shit.......NOPE!!! lol
1 part any suet and 1 part any dried meat. everything else is optional.
Stumbled across your videos and I've literally watched them all day! I've heard my dad talk about old Navy MREs back from Vietnam era and it's cool to see exactly what he's talking about. Love the videos!
I love when he goes back an forth. "Mmmm.......oh, UGH, no......no....that's nasty......wait.....well, it's not bad"
"it's like compressed coffee grounds or like rich soil" *proceeds to eat it*
"mmm...uh,wait...eww...wait, I don't know"
eats more
"I like it"
I love it. Laughed out loud the entire video after that.
This was awesome hahaha. From "this is soil" and "bulge" to "mmm!" in 10 seconds! You cant get better unscripted entertainment than this. Thanks man!!
Man, I love your curious "Hmm this isn't bad" followed by a "Oh sweet Jesus what am I doing with my life", at least somebody is eating old food to show not all old food is "bad"

I think the US Government got more of it's money's worth with the P-38 Can Opener than anything else they've ever bought.
One of the most useful “tools” they’ve ever had developed for the military.
Literally everything in this ration was rotted asf and yet he tried everything... Legend
Steve, I've watched so many of your videos now...and I always say "now here's a guy that's gonna die on his own terms."
I love when he gets something that tastes good for a second then he goes...UGH.
7:45 These sequences drive my asmr bonkers. Gonna melt right out of my chair.
i love how you sound so forced to eat this stuff but then your tone changes and your perfectly fine trying XD
That short bread freaking killed me! xD "Mm!It's sweet...with a...ugh...UGH!" Like that changed for the worst so quickly and the sounds you made were hilarious!
Dude you are absolutely out of your mind trying that pemmican but love the video. Commentary had me laughing out loud. Good job, man.
It must have been exposed to elevated temperatures over its 40+ year journey. Refrigeration or a dry and cool cellar may have kept the sucrose tablets from melting and tainting the other items. Your videos are educational and intriguing, keep it up!

Hero!
Was anyone else thinking, "How the hell do they fit a 'Lifeboat' AND 'Liferaft Rations' in a can that size?" haha
Thanks for the great videos!
Its sad how old food was so much better back then before they discovered all the cheapest chemicals possible that they put in so much modern foods.
at least there's no giant Tootsie roll block at the bottom
Im seriously addicted to these videos
I love the way you say 'lifet raft' - not taking the mick i genuinely love it ^_^
holy shit steve! 4 videos!? Marathon time, woooooooooohh!!
J
Eating That pemmican was like eating a piece of king Tut.🤢
@Tomleç YT lol
I can only imagine what king Tut’s remains would actually taste like. Probably how one might imagine dust, soil, salt and pesticides tasting like all at once.
Your videos are my favorite.
*etirovaf ym era soediv ruoY
Sorry, just a simple correction.
i love this channel, the sense of humor goes perfectly with the content lmaooo
It looks like the pemmican was perfectly preserved, that's what it's actually meant to look and taste like as far as I know.
The 1961 West German pemmican looked way better preserved, at least it didn't bulge or smell "rancid". He seemed to enjoy it much more. I think it was nearly all meat, which is why it wouldn't have turned as much.
This made me laugh more than any of your other videos. The commentary is great.
Heck if your starving just about anything will taste good
I have been watching these vids all day. You are a brave soul.
"It tastes like beef jerky mixed with dried fruit." That's the definition of pemmican.
there not really edible, let me just try this bit
Lol
"it's sweet...with an undertone of fowl.." *proceeds to bite into all jelly bar pieces* lol
Yeah it should have had cigs or a plug of tobacco. If you watch the found film of the Russan guy on the life boat having a smoke was one of the things he fantasized about.
Hey Jason thanks for your service and yeah Steve's vids are hilarious and always remember "embrace the suck"
This is still cool, I was in the US Navy as part of an F-14 tomcat squadron aboard the U.S.S. Again, Another Great Review!
Steve, you should have baked those Tropical Bars like you did with the Desert Bars!! Great channel and sub!
Is it just me that finds the sound of the p38 opening the can sped up therapeutic or....
Sam Bell I like to hear him stir drinks to. I want a p38.
the can opening is my fave part. the noise is delicious to my ears
whike watching this my son (2) kept saying steve font eat the poop lol he thought the fruit and chocolate were poop lol but other then that hes like his mommy and love your channel keep coming with videos 😊❤

Same here. But I won't be too surprised if I see mentos in future packs.
+karebu2 I think that's too thirst provoking
Like a mean joke. "Oh, candy! That's nice. Okay... More candy. More candy... Candy, candy, candy... Noooooooooooo!!!"
right? where are the cigarettes?
No kidding! Just pack some cans of spam, and call it a day...
I always wish I could see some if these rations life's before they land on youre table ... like that bullet in the beginning of that nicholas cage movie Lord of War.
Were Lifesavers candy inspired by Charms? Is that how they got their name?
You can still buy charms. www.ebay.com/itm/Charms-Assorted-Hard-Candies-20Ct-Box-/361564280297?hash=item542ee915e9:g:-DMAAOSwuR5XPl2o

Steve with another legit mr e review
I still buy the SOS Bars to throw in our Get Home Bags we keep in our vehicles. Just an Apple/Cinnamon dense cakes scored into 3 portions per cake. Rather bland and not thirst provoking. They'll keep you alive if you have to hoof it to get home.
I also keep a can of Spam in each bag. It can be eaten hot or cold. Good for protein and fats.
Never thought about looking for Life Raft Rations. I'll have to check them out.
The greatest chad of youtube cannot be scared by mere foodbourne illness. Those are the trappings of mortals
That's a good name for a metal band. Rancidity
We had the 1973 version in the inflatable life rafts and one hoped they were still intact after two WESTPACS. In theory we would gather on deck and jump in and find a life raft. my hometown
Rancidity. New word. Way to go Steve.
Steve's reactions, patois and catchphrases always remind me of a guy I know from Cleveland. I wonder if Steve's from Cleveland originally. Hmm. Not bad.
Loving that old school can opening tab.
awesome show! keep it going man!!
Made in my hometown! So cool!
I saw one of those lifeboat ration tins at a gunshow the other day. Said it was from 1945 I think. I was really tempted to pick it up.
Steve 1989 I would like to hang out with you your a cool dude and I love your enthusiasm for this stuff.
I can't find part 3 to this tho
Charms!! I loved those.
“Let’s get this out onto a tray! Nice, okay....”

How are you going to explain to the E.R. Doctors, that you've been, eating several decades old, rotten food. Lol. Your gut is made of steel. You're The Man !!!
I live in covington tn! About 10 minutes from the charms factory.
Got to love Steve’s iron gut
Hey my pops used to eat those when he went on patrols when he was in the uscg, retired after 27years at the rank of 03
