I love urban fantasy-like stuff like this! I have a special weakness for psionic powers. Here's to hoping they make a movie out of this. Great acting, great lighting, amazing film!
It was good, despite being incomplete. I feel like this is essentially a pilot, which is why it doesn't give away the whole story. Someone wants to expand on this concept one day. I hope it isn't just laziness, but who knows these days. A lot of projects are purposely vague and unfinished to give the illusion of depth where there is none, so I really hope the storytellers get to finish their vision of this one day. If they had no vision, at least they are decent at crafting things visually.
If I remember correctly, DUST has actually said that sometimes these are in fact proof-of-concepts or pilots whose reception is gauged and that particularly successful ones can in fact go on to become more.
Sword of S Well, he is right, when these types of films are made, some details and certain elements are left out usually purposely to create mystery or wanting more and will soon get it. But other times people can use this as an excuse, when in reality they are just lazy. I’m not saying that’s what the people from Dust do, they have a ton of good short films so they are definitely not lazy.
according to me: Excellent movie for perverts and psychopaths; i.e. those who like to injure pain, whatever it is , frustration, disappointment (for example: because it’s about horror and not at all about Sci-Fi), etc. And, of course, no explanation or consistence whatsoever, just mind-fucking mysteries and psycho-enigmas.
There are so many things I loved about this! Great cinematography, great actors, great set, great lighting and costumes! This one is one of my favorites! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I liked the ending; thought/felt it was a superb mix of cinematic style, story, pacing and development. Really enjoyed watching it. Also, the direction, acting, editing, lighting, color-grading and casting was spot-on.
Got on a Dust watching binge. 8:22 am and have watched 11 shorts already😂Been up since beyond the butt crack of dawn.🤣Truly enjoy the shorts but my only problem is that many are cliff hangers and your wondering if it will be a series. Many are worthy of a full length feature , a series. They could put Hollyweird to shame.
Well, if they wanted to give him something, they easily could have just injected him while he was unconscious. In the circumstances, the pills would seem to be what they said they were. Now, if a stranger says "take the pills" that's another story.
Turns out that Fry's dog from Futurama chewed through Sam's dog's rope. She went on to join the Air Force & become part of a super-secret team of offworld explorers. ua-cam.com/video/H_ps9iMH1N4/v-deo.html
I was fascinated when i first started watching dust. .the futuristic to portals..sci fi genre....then eventually frustrating..never endings..yes i get it ..use imagination..but really !!!
It is very frustrating to the viewer. Most of the shorts are made to get attention for the producers, and followup on the stories are almost non-existent. I say "almost" because I figure that maybe some have gained attention and continuation/sequels, though I know of none.
@@Windrider6 For the first time I'm glad I went into the comments halfway through, I guess the headache I got and the constant ringing in my ears isn't at least worth it, so I guess I'll skip this one. Hi! I’ve noticed that there are two kinds of ‘camps’ when it comes to short films; the ones that have a full story arch, and then the ones that leave you questioning...your mind open to interpretation. Ergo, your answers. The great short films pick you up (or yank you!) and set you back down (or sometimes Drop you!) with a feeling of wanting to know more. That’s what makes them great short films. This is one of the latter! In my humble opinion anyway. 😉 Now if producers could realize that there are many talented writers with original concepts out here, that many are thirsting to see! Google This I so agree with you! I’d rather have the sweet, chocolate, gooey ness of the center of the brownie than none at all. Dust provides the essential of originality and excellent creativity, both things Hollywood has mostly forgotten.
My Mother was in and out of mental institutions all my life. This was the 1960s. She had shock treatment which they still do. It's a horrible way to treat anyone. She died at 39 years old from "accidental ", use of medication. Wtf does that even mean? Overdose? Not purposeful? So experimental meds have always been around. There's a expression, " I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy ".
Very nicely done! Sadly, though, the ending was very abrupt, leaving too much unanswered. Its a common thread in my movie experiences lately. Well acted and a great story idea.

oh I'd say it was pretty resolved. You didn't see the eyes in the last shot? (well I guess you didnt know what that meant bc you skipped through) If you see a nuclear missle coming in, do you really need to see the mushroom cloud? ...cuz I hate to be the one to tell you: you're not going to. the misslie will be the last thing you see. Theres only one reason why the kid would send the girl to safety, tell her he'd find her, and then turn back to the facility. Like most good horror movies, they left the goriest part to those in posession of imagination.
Like most DUST films this leads into a much larger story but does 't finish the story. The rest is left to the imagination. I think I like it that way. That said, we are just scratching the surface of the human mind. Who knows what we are capable of. That could be really great. Then again...We've seen some things people have done that was great for humanity and some things that were terrible. We can only hope some things will be for the betterment of us.
.....and right there at the end, starting with his eyes he turned into a pillar of fire, and then collapsed in ashes..... (oh, and simultaneously, the hearts of all the guys in the hall burst inside of their bodies.)
Definitely got Akira vibes with a heavy overtone of Stranger Things government facility coverup/cause. Was Sam the one creating the forcefield or was it all him and she was just collateral? Leaves me wanting more. Great job.
Tom Innis I didnt see it as a cliff hanger. He started getting his memory back, he realized the doctor was lying to him, he realized that the people in the facility he was in was responsible for the crash and that his mother wasnt killed in the crash. He understood that because of his special gift that he was being used as a guinea pig. His anger at being kidnapped, drugged and deceived got him mad enough to bypass the effects of the pills he was taking and was able to overcome his abductors allowing him and the girl to escape; and from the last scene of his face I think he was in full control of his gift and he and the girl got their freedom back. A pretty full story line to me.
I kept tapping to see how much time was remaining, getting nervous. I binge SF books, & it seems like *every damn time* I realize "There are like 20 pages left, and fucking Niven is gonna leave me hanging **a...gain!"** But I love it.
I know dude, I made this shit in college though, first thing I ever mixed. I was following level specs for theaters, was also taking those specs (like having dialogue sit between -6db and -15db ) way too literally, and didn't mix so much with my ears, if that makes sense lol) also, didn't understand how to crash down 5.1 to a stereo mix properly. But hey, that's what this college shit is for!
Not every question needs to be answered in a short film. It can still feel complete and satisfying with an open ending. Unfortunately, this one, like many others on DUST, just don't feel complete and satisfying at all. If someone could answer just one question for me: Why is this called "The Roma Project"?
I'm thinking he's an alien, but doesn't know it yet. The question is, is the mom alive? Will he and the girl have hybrid kids? Will they ever find each other? What's gonna happen with the man with the glasses? How did the mom and her son get here? This is good
Man, I got so invested in this. I really, really want to see the rest. This is SO worth making it into a complete full length movie.
I would be very suspicious of a hospital or similar facility that was so poorly lit.
You have got to make this a full length movie! Can't leave us hanging like this!

Always tell your kids what's up...don't leave it till tomorrow because tomorrow might not come.
Awesome cinematography when he breaks the news that his mom died. Wow.
Thanks for the spoiler
Why was this not a full length feature film? It would have raked in millions.
I WISHHHHHHH this was made into a full length movie! I love this kind of spin off of firestarter..
Looks like New Mutants and this share quite a lot
Absolutely brilliant! The cinematography was superb, editing perfectly timed and acting extremely so profeessional. I'm super impressed.
Another quality short.
Shadowy government agency. Human experimentation. Powers and abilities.
Lovely all around.
Not fiction then.
I prefer this way than the Hollywood feature lengths because it does not take up my time more than 15 min yet leaving me playing around in the field.
These creators have vision....great job everyone and kudoes to Dust for bringing them out

When institutionalized if they instruct the patient to ingest medication, then that's what the patient shall do one way or another.
