I think a strong appreciation of their '90s material is essential in coming to that conclusion, which is something that sadly far too many Pixies fans lack. Those are the albums that raise the Pixies from a band that can hang with (and often better) the best Rock n Roll and Punk bands to a band that can hang with the best "serious" pop and art bands (Beatles, Kinks, Beach Boys, Pink Floyd, as well as stuff they inspired themselves like Radiohead and Arcade Fire). It's like three notes bro.. you want to hear a good baseline go listen to some Duran Duran. This is hilarious. They're on the same level as the smashing pumpkins which is pretty low. There's just so many better bands to listen to from the 90s. It's a bummer blind melon's one album that was called soup has 12 better songs then anyting these guys ever wrote. @Saint Cocaine Good luck in your wallowing in your ignorant, shallow, poser life. The guy was giving out a little advice. He wasn't trashing new music. It doesn't hurt to learn a little from people that have been there before.
@Saint Cocaine How about you grow some hair on your balls and listen to something that fuckin' moves ya. Nothing is original, Opie- everything has an influence. And you're right, it is about rebelling against the norm. But somehow, gettin' out there and fighting "the man" just isn't the same until you actually get out from your parents basement. Come talk to me when you actually get it, you little pissant.

You'll be the same guy in 10 years at the front of the "I need a living wage" protest for McDonald's employees.
Fucking amazing. The Pixies have always been about dynamics and nuances. An intricate machine of sound built around equally intricate dark sideways subversive poetry. Fucking amazing.
Sublime!!! Paz and David, the rhythm section from heaven..... the fabulous guitar histrionics and bellowing vocals equals the most important band still around today. Loved them 30 years ago.....and guess what?????? Love even more now!!! Paz is an asset to die for!!! Loved her in Zwan. Love her in Pixies TONS!! At Alexandra Palace, they just tore it up!! Awesome!!!!❤️❤️🤘🌹
Saw them first April '88 in Newcastle in a small club, they blew the whole place apart with their quiet.. build... and sheer propulsive NOISE.... loved them then and still now. thank you for this!
This is by far my favorite version of this song. Paz just does a fantastic job with those vocal notes. She sounds like the original for radio sound so much. Pixies has one of the best drummers ever. Just the best band.

Nah bro the album is supposed to be the album and the live is supposed to be live they done at least million different intros for this song in concerts its impossible to even say this the best intro
Having never really listened to The Pixies, this song is so rad! Everything about this recording and sound is SO perfect. Guitars, bass and vox sou d fantastic but the drummer is like a clock or a machine, just never missing the slightest beat. An amazing capture of that song! 👍 Oh, BTW, I come from the sludge and metal scene so this is quite different than what I've listened to fkr the last 20 years or so.
Paz is so cute and talented! I like her playing and her singing! She compliments and improves this song! I’m so glad they found her! She has reinvigorated and revived this band! And they are making good music! This late in the game that’s a minor miracle! And she can play the violin too! I’m glad they are still touring! One of the last great indie type bands! 🔥💥🎸😎

That bass line .... mesmerising.. love you Kim
Imagine being a kid who's never heard this song....wow I remember when I first heard it and I am jealous of those feelings.....what a band.
An absolute rippin' version...the band is sooooo tight!
Man, they are super tight. Joeys guitar sound is so good.
He used to be able to get those same sounds with nothing but a Les Paul and a marshall now he has a pedalboard the size of a table
This just just gets better and better!!! Such an amazing bass line. Yes, I'm pushing 50 and still love a good melt down.
They kind of remind me of a poor man's social distortion in this song. Also connects chicks stop breathing into the mic?
Also can the chick stop breathing/mumbling into the mic?
@@kane00000 Duran Duran and pixies are complete polar opposites lol you cant compare their music that's dumb
@@joechapman8802 No. what I'm saying is the pixies suck and Duran Duran is God.
@@kane00000 what ya doing commenting on this then you dumb dumb
I was 16 when this song was first released and a
young punk rocker at the time, after 5 or 6 pernods and black currants we would love dancing to this because it's so catchy❤
This gave me chills. Been a fan since 1990.
This band was always about less is more. Pay attention kids, if you want your music to sound intense there needs to be build-up and lots of dynamics.
@Saint Cocaine this is just unwarranted, jeez man chill
Thats the bloody secret, bring it up take it down, keep it satisfying but interesting
@Saint Cocaine You're lying. You're still in the basement, it's obvious by what you say. And wow, you're intuition was so close- not. My one and only kid hasn't been dependent on me pretty much since Junior HIgh, and she's in college now doing her thing.
And believe me, I'm not "venting" on you. You make me laugh with your grandpa accusations and general " I dont' need no advice from no old people" narrative. You'll be the same guy in 10 years at the front of the "I need a living wage" protest for McDonald's employees.
The raw simplicity of the video is fantastic… great song
Paz is absolutely perfect!

One of the most influential bands still doin their thing.
This is by far my favorite version of this song. Paz just does a fantastic job with those vocal notes. She sounds like the original for radio sound so much. Pixies has one of the best drummers ever. Just the best band.
First time hearing. Very nice!
Espectacular
no es sencillo, para nada. una flor es sencilla? solo si no sabes nada. ;)
Su complejidad está en su simpleza
Saw them in Cardiff two days ago, went out for a cig quick came back in only to hear the last note of this song. Long story short, I've quit smoking.
Dude, that sucks. I'm seeing them in 2 days at Leeds!
Who the fuck goes to smoke during the show, Ive been smoking for 10 years and have never done that
Malaysian_ Asian were a lot of the songs played off their new album?
@@ojasvipatel1281 setlist.fm is a great site!
Maybe just try and quit being dumb as spit. Leave during Pixies. Maniac.
The lady on bass is amazing
As a matter of rock’n’roll, ladies on bass always are amazing.

@@fernandoahumada8909 Nah. That's not Kim
Always been my favourite pixies song and god damn it was good when I saw it live.. yes kim was great but I’m so sick of people not giving Paz the respect she deserves. She had big shoes to fill and I am never going to forget hearing this !
As good now as they’ve always been, simply incredible how good they sound after all these years. Never leave us Pixies ❤️

Wow! I think this might be my favourite version of this song. Love the Pixies.
Had the privilege of seeing them last year. I’ve been a fan for a long time now, and I must say that their show really surpassed my expectations. Cheers for anyone who’s gonna see them anytime soon. Freaking Pixies rule
Best version on UA-cam. Period.

Try this one
The balance of that bass, damn...gives me goosebumps!!!
Just got into the Pixies...what the hell took me so long? I can't even describe their sound, I just know it kicks ass...
After building the tension for over two minutes that chorus really comes crashing in bringing a wave of relief.
Good comment finally
Exactly. Pixies are all about contrast between bassy calm verses and noisewall choruses
Nah, bro. It brought a wave of mutilation.
Saw these guys late 80's in a school gym in San Diego. One of the two best shows I've ever seen in my life.
I'm in love with that bass tone.
i wish the elongated intro like this was on the album version cause this actually is better than the album version for that reason alone
Nah bro the album is supposed to be the album and the live is supposed to be live they done at least million different intros for this song in concerts its impossible to even say this the best intro
I agree but they must've had their reasons, maybe the vinyl record couldn't fit anymore length? lol
Oh the irony, ignored by the mainstream back in the day.
So true
Tnk god
Gouge Away
/
Lyrics
Gouge away, you can gouge away
Stay all day if you want to
Missy aggravation, some sacred questions
You stroke my locks
Some marijuana, if you got some
Gouge away, you can gouge away
Stay all day if you want to
Sleeping on your belly, you break my arms
You spoon my eyes
Been rubbing a bad charm with holy fingers
Gouge away, you can gouge away
Stay all day if you want to
Chained to the pillars, a three-day party
I break the walls
And kill us all with holy fingers
Gouge away, you can gouge away
Stay all day if you want to

David at the end was my fav part of this particular rendition. 🤘🏻
tame at Brixton or hey on that English tv show - probably the best 2 live performances if I had to choose, although gigantic with a giggling kim deal is right up there too - this effort just doesn't compare
Lol it is great.
@@broken1394 this tune is always great - cos its so easy to play - easily structured. but that's the beauty of the pixies. what im saying is - its those magic moments in their prime that have now sadly gone. but that happens with every band their age. every band passes its peak. but we still love them - and im dreading the day they stop touring
