In the situation these Engies were in - where the Spy they were up against was taking his time and sapping/stabbing when it was impossible for them to see it coming and fight back - I'd suggest doing what I do: Switch to the Gunslinger. Being less dependent on keeping a leveled Sentry Gun up leaves you much more available to looking elsewhere. Sure, a Mini Sentry isn't nearly as powerful as a Level Three, but it's way easier to replace when it gets sapped, and in the end - a Mini Sentry is better than no Sentry. Spy is the intended soft-counter to the Engineer, so it's impossible to be 100% invulnerable to them... but you can make their jobs a lot harder by turning around (which, by the way, these Engies never seemed to do that very much, even when they weren't preoccupied with anything) and using your Shotgun as your primary source of damage. They can't sap your Shotgun! Use it! Anyway, Mr. P - great video, demonstrations like this teach me more about the dedicated Spy's mindset, which makes it easier for me to both play - and play against. :)
yep, mini-sentries are always a problem for spies, if you ignore them, they will hurt you.... if you sap them for destruction, they will be rebuilt with ease in a new location... if you red tape them to keep them disabled, the sounds of the sap will alert the enemy... on the plus side, your teammates don't need you to take out a mini for them, so move your attention to the combo, the MVP, or the snipers...

I just wanted to say, you are probably the best tf2 youtuber I've ever seen. Not to say that the others like uncle Dane and array seven are bad, it's just that you explain everything so well, you understand the game so much, and you also are so good at spy. I don't know about others, but this video definitely helped me play spy better.
All those points are great. Mr. Paladin doesn't need editing to explain the points. He can just use live commentary and say, "you called spy and there's no spy" "I'm here to disrupt your stuff and not let you rancho relaxo behind a lvl 3 gun with ure dispenser and teleporter"
As a pyro main, I usually try to keep/catch spies in somewhat small areas and keep them against a wall. Also I don't just try my hardest to light them on fire with my flamethrower, thats what my scorch shot is for. Because of the knock back on scorch, wide radius, AND increased knock back on burning players alongside my airblast, I can keep a spy near a wall where I can keep attacking him with little to no escape. This is also useful for pretty much anything but a demo, soldier, or pyro. As the soldier and demo could catch you with spam projectials, and the pyro doesn't stay on fire and can also airblast. Using this tactic against heavys is just A BIT harder then some other classes since all you really need to do is spam and directly hit him with the scorch to keep him back, (while behind some cover so you don't take constant damage) usually ending up to do more damage then the heavy expected you to do with just your scorch. Also personally I find my self to hear decloaks of any kind extremely well.
11:20 Backstab friendly teammates to give them health... Sounds like a great way to support a small team behind enemy lines, but knowing Valve, the downsides would probably make it not worth using most of the time. Maybe if you were planning a flank you could bring a spy equipped with a Crossbow bolt, to backstab people with, but otherwise you'd have to replace your crossbow bolt really often...
NicolBolas2 I agree. There should be a knife that doesn't instantly kill but basically guarantees death within a few seconds. Could be bleed damage, a timed explosion or whatever. What would be the upside though?
Coming back here is so nostalgic. Been following you since I am in my elementary days. And now I' on my second year on my job. Still playin and watching. Thank you MrPaladin.

To increase the chances of a telefrag, sap the tele for then once; make it look like you're trying to sap the tele to death. Keep an eye on the, uhhh "team tab" on the top of the hud. Finally, after he takes off, uhhh, threeish sappers, walk through the tele for a tele frag. Does not work everytime, but it seems to increase your chance of a telefrag by a 99999999%.
One for Heavies. P.O.T.I.S. Push forward with your team, giving them the confidence that big Russian Heavy, not a fatty fat fat, can rely on. Observe all around you, notify if you think some sneaky Frenchie is in your team. Tank damage for small baby classes on your team if you're at full health, careful not to take too much. Intellectually navigate around the map for places to catch the enemy team off guard. No one expects the surprise Heavy. Simple and clean is the waaaay... wrong one Simple, don't go for the stupid buffalo steak and KGB. Keep your load out simple with as little gimmicky stuff. You're not a degreaser pyro.
Your spy plays earned you another sub. I've only clocked in 2 months in TF2 and I'm a decent medic at best. Keep the good stuff coming you magnificent man
I really love watching your videos. Unlike other youtubers, no matter how many times you explain yourself in previous videos, you walk us through everything you do, and because you explain these things, it's what I think of when I play spy. So, thank you Mr. P c:
I love how you explain the concept then run through your gameplay after. It really helps to better understand the mindset behind a good spy, not just the technique. Third vid ive watched and ive subbed. Good shit
MrPaladin, I want to thank you for making this video. Not because it helped me with Engineers, but it taught me about using the enemies awareness against them. I played a game just before making this comment, and I realized how helpful it was at different times during the game. We started out with 4 or five Engineers, which was quickly taken care of due to coordination between us Spies and our team. However, the Engineers then switched to paranoid Pyros. All throughout the game, there were Pyros flaming everywhere. I thought back to this video, and started using what I remembered. And it worked. Every time there was a Pyro flaming a corner, I waited JUST until they turned, stalked them, and stabbed them, cloaking away as to avoid detection. This caused mass panic, as I also used this method on the rest of the team to much success. From here on out, I'll remember this video - it's a very fundamental lesson to learn as a Spy main, and on behalf of all Spies watching this - Thank you. The TF2 Spy Community needed to learn this lesson, as did I.
It would be amazing if this whole video was just a prank and none of this was correct so you could troll engineer mains into thinking you're doing what you're not.
Watching both videos again, I think it's just the situation you and your team is in, If you're an engie winning, your team will be focusing on the objective while you have a good nest for mobility with your teleporter. Therefore they're ready and will know if the enemy team will start to attack the nest and one spy can't take out a team constantly teleporting, but if you're losing, you're team will be trying to make a push leaving you vulnerable while you try to upgrade or use a wrangler such as that engie on upward at the final point. If you're a spy on the winning team, the enemy will be so focused on your team's big classes such as Medic, Heavy, Soldier, and Demo, leaving them vulnerable and even if you get caught, like you said, they'll be too focused on you that your team will eventually take them out, but if you're losing, your team might ask you to change classes and kick you if you don't. The enemy team are already countering your team and that could be a perfect opportunity to change the tide if they don't see you and don't have that awareness, if they do however, you might aswell focus on those who aren't on the objective.
I think you're right in large part. Except for the pyro spy checking. I dont think he need to do it everywhere. But if he knows there is a strong spy vs his team. He can focus on defending nest and surrounding allies while engy is elsewhere. And if he succeed at that, he is maybe not gona kill you BUT: he will or slow you down or completely disrupt your effectiveness and while he is doing that the argument of he is not focused on hitting your team welll i do like to say ita one player killing no one for an other one killing no one except that the spy is too effective and for me its worth it
also watch out for callouts..i recently just died because the spy yelled 'WE HAVE GOT TO STOP THAT BOMB' -couldn't disguise cause i was using the eternal reward-
Older Mr. P videos always helping me out, you've influenced a lot of players in this game and your effect is never-ending for the future of the players
L.O.T.R. fans: "So you have chosen death."
Zack Bond I want people irl to use that
"JESUS WHY DID YOU STAB ME?"
"BRO! I was healing you!"

I agree.
MrPaladin plays as spy: *the enemy team is full of blind players*
Me when I play as a spy: *enemy team gets x-ray vision with teammates actually helping the engineer*
I played with you and I didn't know it? Shame on me..
I could be any one of them ;)
+MrPaladin so true...i think tf2 was dead but when i look at the upload date....ok im gonna erectin' a dispenser now.
"He could be you, he could be me! He could even be-"
Ded
sap tele entrance, wait for the engi to save it, repeat till you accidentally go through and telefrag him
Engies don't fall for it that much, and there's a risk of a spawning enemy seeing you
some still fall for thiss.... btw this is Juudolf's strat... look up "Let's Bully the Engineer"... three evil little vids
works alot for me lol
idk who juudolf is. cant wait to watch the vid and laugh tho lol
Simple and clean is the waaaay... wrong one
Simple, don't go for the stupid buffalo steak and KGB. Keep your load out simple with as little gimmicky stuff. You're not a degreaser pyro.
Uncle dane : shows how to deal with spies
Mr. Paladin : shows how to deal with engineers
Uncle dane : "suprised pikachu face"
Images done with words.
Watching this gameplay makes me want to become a better Spy main even more.
Your spy plays earned you another sub. I've only clocked in 2 months in TF2 and I'm a decent medic at best. Keep the good stuff coming you magnificent man
19:05 is where the best line in the game happens.
"Why don't we just give up, pardner?"
I really love watching your videos. Unlike other youtubers, no matter how many times you explain yourself in previous videos, you walk us through everything you do, and because you explain these things, it's what I think of when I play spy. So, thank you Mr. P c:
you're welcome
23:37 the fact that you're asking is exactly why it's there.
3:27
Why engies are better than spies. Engies always know what’s happening.
Insert meet the medic line : *no zey don't*
That is very wrong
XD "whos gandalf?"
when your friend is an engie main and you 1up him with your superior frenchman skills
I want to see Mr paladin and Uncle Dane fight on tf2
I love how you explain the concept then run through your gameplay after. It really helps to better understand the mindset behind a good spy, not just the technique. Third vid ive watched and ive subbed. Good shit
as a engi main this is a treasure trove of what a high level spy does and possible counters
I was in that Upward game with Mr. Paladin. No wonder "KnowOne" was so good!
Hey there, thanks for being chill and having fun
MrPaladin Thanks for giving us tips on how to improve in TF2. You're awesome :)
There's no trick to it... its just a simple trick
A simple trick indeed, but one I had yet to learn.
but MrPaladin... Spies are *made* to take out engineers XD
Spy is engie's soft counter, demoman is the hard counter.
Eddie 'JaggSauce' Gluskin Yeah I wish they wouldn't do the reverse counter stuff.
@puppy dog No :-D but I've seen scouts getting pwned by a mini sentry
EDIT: What weapons did that scout use?
@puppy dog just like scouts promo video.
23:28 Hahaha
When you try to teach how to deal with Engineers, and an Engineer sneakier than you saves you with their sentry.
Me, watching uncle Dane: "Alright, now I know what to do against spies!
Me, watching Mr. Paladin: "Oh... A good spy is immortal... got it..."
G'Night Mr.P
Don't worry about the monster under the bed, the one in the closet can eat him whole.
XD
That feeling when you have OCD and Mr.p doesn't reload his gun.
And that good feeling when he reload his gun.
autorelaod is on, it reloads when you are not in cloak. you cant reload while cloaked.
MrPaladin ik but It's just my habit to reload before cloaking or take a short break to reload.
yeah not reloading before cloaking really bugs me out... and when i see mr p did it i was liek
OMG WHY MR P?!
its not ocd
It's more efficient ocdgasms when he finally reloads his gun.
"Spies thrive on chaos"
THE SPY IS LITTLEFINGER CONFIRMED!
You and Uncle Dane have helped me become a better engineer main. Thanks.
I love the way you use cloak and dagger as a normal invis watch
It would be amazing if this whole video was just a prank and none of this was correct so you could troll engineer mains into thinking you're doing what you're not.
You cant trick mr.p cause mr.p can read you like a book.
Pffft since when do people in 2017 read books?
Mustache HoneyBadger
there are some pretty good books that I've read.
Why did I think of the stand 'Heaven's Door' when I saw that lel
14:17
MrPaladin forgets about the Homewrecker Pyros
11:26 mrp: you guys need healthpack? I'll give you healthpack, IN THE BACK
11:34 also mrp: i need healthpack
Correction it's "I need the healthpack"
Watching both videos again, I think it's just the situation you and your team is in,
If you're an engie winning, your team will be focusing on the objective while you have a good nest for mobility with your teleporter.
Am I the only person who feels bad for killing F2P's who obviously don't know what to do?
Sir Scrubbington yes
Sir Scrubbington no
No, as it gives me the feeling of being a superior F2P.
That F2P Engi you mean yes?
Nope.avi
Mr paladin today marks the anniversary of me going into heart surgery and thanks to your videos I. wasn't as bored waiting for me to recover :)
I hope it goes well!
MrPaladin it was an aerodic valve replacment
Touching.
This is anti - engi propaganda and I wont stand for it.
@puppy dog .....
@puppy dog stfu
puppy dog it’s a joke, mate
yippe kaye my dead illiterate friend
“I Built That.”
"Can I please do one useful thing for my team?" You have broken this poor man.
With this smooth voice and gameplay without too much editing, it is relaxing to watch his videos
Mr Paladin your videos are the reason i got better at spy. Thanks and i love your videos :)
SirKe idem dito. (Exactly the same for me.)
21:02 imagine listening to this with no context
I think you're right in large part. Except for the pyro spy checking. I dont think he need to do it everywhere. But if he knows there is a strong spy vs his team. He can focus on defending nest and surrounding allies while engy is elsewhere. And if he succeed at that, he is maybe not gona kill you BUT:
he will or slow you down or completely disrupt your effectiveness and while he is doing that the argument of he is not focused on hitting your team welll i do like to say ita one player killing no one for an other one killing no one except that the spy is too effective and for me its worth it
*Spy kills Engineer and disguises as him*
Spy (Engineer): Spah around here!
Me: watches a tutorial on how to spy
Also me: Pyro main
MrP's response was to dom engies in payload servers to show us uncle Dane was wrong
We need a video on how to deal with a class both engies and spies need to worry about
also watch out for callouts..i recently just died because the spy yelled 'WE HAVE GOT TO STOP THAT BOMB' -couldn't disguise cause i was using the eternal reward-
8:41 Lol it’s been a while since I’ve been hit with a sandman ball and get stunned. Tbh I miss that stun the sandman had.
Older Mr. P videos always helping me out, you've influenced a lot of players in this game and your effect is never-ending for the future of the players
