I love that he mentioned that there is a difference from startling people and actually scaring them
Diamond Johnson I love the fact you mentioned it also
And then adds a screaming jump-scare to episode 9 anyway...
@@WheretIB2 jump scares aren't bad the problem is when a "horror" show is nothing more than jump scares.
@@diamondjohnson3219 I guess that's true.
@@WheretIB2 But it wasn't a jumpscare that was used just for the sake of scaring people. It actually drove the character's journey in that scene
"Horror has been changing, it got to a point where the genre was content just to startle people..." = The politest understatement of the millennium.
i kinda wanted less jump scares and more psychological horror, where its so tense it sometimes its nothing just the building to that point is what makes me scares
@@NostalgicMem0ries Agreed. Also, I like your username.
@@magisterofsteam7880 thanks, it represents me very well :}
Mike Flanagan is one of the best horror directors working today
Honestly THE best.
I looove all of his movies seriously! Before I Wake and Hush are my favorites. There where so many moments in this show that reminded me of Occulus and I swear I saw The Occulus Mirror in the show too!
@@GoblinsAreAGirlsBestFriend I put him next to Ari Aster
Cheng Kane hereditary was amazing. Don’t forget the witch director Robert eggers
@@GoblinsAreAGirlsBestFriend No. Honestly, ONE OF the best.
This director deserves an award! This is the work of a creative mind. The mixing of past, present and future -- this director is like Thanos, but a good version. ✌🏽️😍
Oh my goodness. I freaking hope so man. Wow wow wow I just don't know how else to put it. 😭😭😭 it's so good and beautiful.
Um did you notice that he is white? Giving awards to white people only encourages white supremacy!
Joshua Vautour why would you bring colour into appreciating sheer talent? 🌚
Just finsished the series and now i have to watch all over again because it was so good. Beware the final episode i cried my eyes out. Thanks Netflix you scared me to the point i couldn't watch by myself at night and gave me a headache from crying
This looks gorgeous. Unbelievable cinematography, and that coming on top of what looks like one hell of an intense story. I like his thinking. And he's absolutely right. Just being startled has a place for sure, but that's all horror has been for a while. REAL scares are the ones that don't necessarily make you jump, or startle you, but come back and make you feel uneasy hours or days later. They get under your skin. Precious few horror movies have ever done that. I have high hopes that this will.
*"All the way throughout, i want see you guys scared the entire time. okay?"*
that's the motivation! wow. 😂😂
My mind is actually blown by Mike Flanagan's quality of work... I don't think anyone currently working in horror is at his level. It's so rare to see horror writers and directors who actually so THOROUGHLY understand WHAT horror is and how it should make the audience feel. It shouldn't just be a startle-fest. It is such a profound way for people to explore humanity. I'm really glad he's getting more and more of a platform.
The casting of this show was impeccable!! Especially the kids and their corresponding adult versions.
Stunning trailer. Whoever cut this together did a fantastic job. Loved the music arrangement and the emotional hook of this looked good. Not to mention strong production values. Very excited to see this. Also, what a great cast! :)
FUNNY SMS you wanna be friends ?
Damn right!!
It's not a trailer. It's a featurette about the director's process.
I am not a horror fan. I avoid horror movies. But I saw his two movies on Netflix and I like his style. So I am watching. But this maybe one show I will watch slowly. Probably one episode every other day type slow.
Same
The thing that I love about Mike Flanagan's films. Is he actually get's what real horror is, it's more than just jump scares. To be afraid, and fear for the characters safety on screen, you actually have to care about them first. Otherwise it becomes torture porn: "oh I wonder how this person is going to die!", that may have a place in cinema, but that isn't what I call true horror.
very true
Good luck. It drags you in.
I'm over here finishing it in 2 days and regretting it. Such an amazing show.
I haven't gotten wrapped up in a show like this since Stranger Things. We didn't get a new season of that this year, so this was a fantastic substitute for it and now i'm hooked on yet another fantastic Netflix production.
I think that was the point of releasing this show. They needed something good to fill the Stranger Things void and they delivered!
I'm in awe at his brilliance, the series was a cinematic masterpiece
He's so so much better than James Wan! Mike Flanagan is just underrated!!!!!
Well james wan did a fantastic job on so many horror movie staples, and the swamp thing was amazing.
WOW.. I just finished binge watching it and all i have to say is INCREDIBLE.. A must watch 10/10
1:23 Glad to see Carla 💘
She was stunning in _Gerald's Game_
Watched Hill House two times in a row on its release. And just finished watching it for a third time today, after watching The Shining & the extended Doctor Sleep just before. Have also seen the second Haunting (Bly Manor) two times, Midnight Mass, and everything else from Mike. Such a skilled writer+storyteller, producer and director.
There can be so much cruelty in life, and only those who have suffered and "survived", would have enough empathy to fully appreciate the "Haunting" series (and some others from Mike). It goes beyond just "surviving" though, and has a message about living your life truthfully, kindly and honestly, without letting fear, regret, etc. getting the better of you.
I hope there is a worthy third Haunting series someday 🙏❤️
Incredible series, instant classic. One of the best. It actually never startled or even scared me but I lost count how many times it gave me chills, goosebumps & the willies.
I LOVED THIS SHOW SO MUCH IT'S BEAUTIFULLY MADE, LIKE THE CHARACTERS, COLOR PALETTE, PLOT, SCENES SKDJ everything
I CANNOT WAITTTTT, Netflix... you're killing it., good job.
Fantastic series. Binge watched it all today. Great writing and great performances. Genuinely creepy with a great story.
So excited to see this! It's already on my list!
BRILLIANT!!! Best Series I've ever seen! Not only was I scared but even cried. Please Make More!!
This was brilliant!
I really like this cast. This looks good.
You had me trying to find the show after your first October video a few weeks back. Ghoul is good and this I'm sure will be really good.
Can’t wait! Flanagan does not disappoint.
Stunning trailer, I loved it and I am so excited for this and I am definitely looking forward to it, great trailer
Really looking forward to watching this.
It's rated fresh on rotten tomatoes baby
OMG I can't wait
Can't wait for this!
Definitely a show that can get you scared, nervous, sad, depress but at the same time, happy... I just love it, love it, love it! America Horror Story S1 can eat its heart out because this show is brilliant, and I'll keep mentioning it to everyone until they all watch it!
Omg!!! Im just so excited for that
So looking forward to watching this. 😱
Yeeeeeessssss🙌🙌🙌 thats what im taking about. A freaking masterpiece man, you will not be disappointed. ❤❤❤
Just believe the hype!!!
^ This man, this director, definitely knows how to make good horror/psychological terror!!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Mike Flanagan is the goat
This show is perfection
I would love to see the behind the scene of episode 6.
Based on the bts i have seen so far of episode 6, i feel like a full bts video would require almost as much editing as the episode itself did. Not choreography, just editing so that everything you see and get told makes sense.
im rewatching this show for like the fourth time rn
Kudos to the director I can tell this is going to be good
Can't Wait
Timothy Hutton is in this? I'm sold! Ever since Leverage I'll watch anything with him
omg this is gonna be good!
Well done.
mIKE Flanagan is great. I'm so excited!
Man I really loved this show so much.
Idk if it's just gonna be 1 season
Cause good lord it would be great for a second season maybe ABOUT THE HILLS?
I wish I was able to watch this, but I honestly can't handle it! Looks like an amazing show though!
THE CAMERA WORK IS SO FUCKING GREAT
ESPECIALLY THE CAMERA WORK FOR EPISODE 6 IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL
Mike Flanagan should direct a Silent hill movie or show.
can't wait to not sleep at night again!
Bring on Season 2!
Netflix makes its content on everyday basis.
It realeses a new content on an average everyday
Rated 100% on rotten tomatoes,😍😈
I'm scared to sleep tonight!!!
just watched "the bent neck lady".
Mike, you bastard!
Mike is a visionary best horror movie director in the world
If anyone has watched "Twin Peaks" or the Danish show "Riget" ("The Kingdom")m they know that suspense is a much more frightening form of horror than the constant use of shocks in an attempt to startle people is.
buena serie la mejor de terror y suspenso que vi en mucho tiempo
A highly recommend show
Best Horror TV series i have ever seen, beware episode 9 scared the shit out of me lol
He makes you more afraid of you don't see on screen... so true hahaah
It's upsetting that all of these featurettes weren't included in the Blu-Ray release.
horror is back to being good again
That’s impressive
It’s so well made and I pray the legacy lives on but don’t make a season 2...the story is beautiful as it is. Unless Mike Flanagan is going to grace us with his ingenuity by building on more layers or tearing them down...love the show!!!
Ironically one of the biggest things to scare me in this series was a "startle" moment. But agreed nonetheless that horror as a genre hit a climax somewhere along the way.
I cried in the finale;-;
Ok why was this not nominated for any Emmy? 🤨
pause sharply at 2:23! it 's the ghost of Poppy Hill! remember when on the last night, Theo was holding Young Hugh's hand and she saw many flashbacks or something and one of the flashback scene was this- Poppy Hill's ghost smiling. But how can Theo see that because, Poppy Hill's ghost didn't confront Hugh until the last episode, i.e. until when he is old and all his children come to hill house one last time? DID YOU GET WHAT I SAID? I'M curious about DID I MISS SOMETHING?
I'm going to be a little biased because I'm watching the show right now and they mention my hometown Ojai why do you recommend this show it's phenomenal
Make a horror comedy, those are always awesome movies
Uh not always. They can be though. The Haunted House and Scary Movie ones are stupid.
He should direct Superhero movie like other horror icon directors Sam Raimi
The book by Shirley Jackson is a classic and the Robert Wise directed movie starring Julie Harris is the most frightening haunted house movie ever made. In my opinion, nothing even comes close so this Netflix entry has it’s work cut out for it.
Did anyone else also captured that one scene where theo is standing in front of Shirley in her house and the scene is mirrored? Episode 8
He really is an auteur 👍🏻
Oh yeah yeah
Hype.
now come the trailer Stranger Thıngs
•°•The gifted please•°•
I want to be as good as him someday
I really hated Steve’s character at the start but you begin to realise why he his the way he is
But he is the oldest. That was his job cuz dad wasn't around at all. But what do i know? 😂😂😂 no one likes Steve man😂😂😂
Spoiler alert: it's a masterpiece.
What about Shirley Jackson? Is this an adaption of her brilliant work or not? Judging by the material we've seen so far, this has got nothing to do with her book and the cast & crew didn't mention her here either. Hearing about how amazing the director was, one might think that he cooked this all up by himself - it was like she didn't exist! I was really looking forward to seeing her work get adapted for the screen again, but I guess this is not it. How about next time you just choose an original name for your original material and leave her stuff alone?
franni ferrari It is an adaptation but not a straight adaptation. It is certainly inspired by it, but it changes a lot of the original story. Still, it doesn't ever give you the sense that all they wanted was the name. It honours the source material and stays true to its themes and atmosphere.
This halfway feels like a troll post, honestly. Clearly Mike Flanigan isn't trying to pass this off as his original work. He didn't create the characters. He may have changed some of the backstory but sometimes you have to do that in order to make what's on screen make sense. That goes for anything that gets adapted from a novel.
I enjoyed the movie with Liam Neeson. I'm sure I'd enjoy this
Coloca templo Shaolyn1 e o 2 ,era do gelo,thanks
That "-ette" in the word featurette bothers me a bit😅
Its bcos all About know more in A New Generation of Sound Technology That is Dolby ATOMS,Sprilers in Musics,WOW
dude is winning in life, making amazing movies and getting to tap that katie siegel ass :O
This had better be good netflix or I swear to god....
While I have a keen interest in the paranormal, having had an experience of forewarning/precognition, even as a child I was drawn to it We had a haunted house event in an old part of North Jersey that actually was racoons. Nevertheless in the last 3 decades what has passed for horror is shit. I saw both film versions of Hill House (old one much better). Yet I am somewhat intrigued with this Netflix version. While it simmers at about 60 % scare/ fascination/ interest that is far better than 5% "cut em up" or shock horror and 95 % boring bs. This is because of a multi-decade story weaving between members of a large but close family impacted by what seem 0:37
Who came back here after watching Midnight Mass?
Who's watched the show more than once?
Better than James wan.
I absolutely love this show but wasn't a fan of the ending.
