My son just 3D printed me a Groot pothead. I need to paint him. Thanks for the tips.
Good job. A couple tips: Groot actually has brown eyes but the pupils are large, so he needs some dark brown on the outside, maybe with a little bit of a light catch in the brown using a slightly lighter brown to give it depth. Also to keep a model from appearing like it's always looking to a corner with the light catch, it helps if you do one small catch and one larger catch on different corners of the eye. Then the model has a more neutral forward look. Guess it depends on what you're going for? I just 3D printed mine with wood filament so I'm looking at various videos for inspiration. Think I might use like a walnut stain and then brush lighter like this. I also had the idea to use a 3D pen with some green filament to have little sprouts coming off of him like he does in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Might play around with that to finish him. Maybe try adding a couple tiny leaves and painting them. Maybe get some model moss from a hobby store. Thanks!
