I literally just finished building the Windam an hour ago 😂 I've always loved the design, one of the few from Seed Destiny I actually like. I just wish I had a Doppelhorn or Multi Strike Windam
I feel that you should have also mentioned the Leo NPD from Build Divers. Not only is it the same Leo, but it has even more customization with its various heads and unique backpack. ETA: I'm sure the Windam is also going to be joined by the upcoming Dagger L
I'm sort of surprised the HGUC Zaku I didn't make this list in place of the HGTO version, given the high praise you gave it in your old reviews. Low price point, good articulation, good loadout (heat hawk, machine gun, bazooka, handheld spike shield, and sturmfaust), seems like a perfect army builder to me. I've personally been meaning to pick up a squad of them myself.
I had a Shiden and all i can say is it's like building an ultra-cheap RG since it features a frame. ...but mine was scrapped years later because it eventually got the IBO syndrome.
I personally bought a bunch of those Gundam the Ground War kits. The Ground Gundam one comes with two hover trucks, and a GM head, and the Zaku ii kit comes with two M61 tanks, and 2 Wappas. They make a nice combined arms army.
Personally I've always felt that the Jegan is one of the best army builders. They're decently sized, good weaponry and have a few variations (more in P Bandai). But I agree with the Leo and Graze on this list. Especially as the Leo was the archetype that 30 Minutes Missions was built upon.
I recently got and built a Genoace and let me tell you, it goes together so easily and cleanly. Combine that with having incredible possibility and its a Gunpla I wish I had many, many more of. On the other hand you've sold me on the Dovenwolf and will have to look for a kit next time I'm shopping for new kits. I've always loved the design.
I’m army building for Mobile Suit Skirmish, though I’m focusing more on a diverse range of units rather than a bunch of the same unit. The closest I’ve gotten with the latter is with the Maganac. I bought one standard unit plus one of each P-Bandai set, and I have enough leftover parts to make three or four more customized Maganacs depending on how many custom parts I use. I also have a North American MSIA Maganac Rasid Custom from back in the day which happens to be pretty much exactly the same scale as the kits, so that brings my total Maganac count up to four. It also helps that the Maganac was always one of my favorite grunts.
The GN-X units were, and still are, my favourite. Especially the GN-XIV commander type. I would love if Bandai made the Core Fighter variant. That would be perfect for a P-Bandai release
Building my own squad of origin Zaku. Each gonna have own unique loadout and some slight kit bashing to fit with my lore for them. Driving me slightly insane to build the same kit 4 times but once they're done and painted up they're gonna be my pride and joy even over some of my MG and RG.
For more militaristic "grunts", there are the Helldiver from Patlabor, or the various models from Full Metal Panic, also if they are in 1/60 scale, they seems similar to the GMs or the LEOs, and could add a little variety to the troops.
Ah, the leo... my first ever gunpla kit, i customized my first one, broke the hip joint, bought another one, and now said new one is on my shelf, with some minor customization of course. That kit got me into gundam, and i love it.

The Gelgoogs with Cannon gear was nice for me because I could, without modification, transplant parts around to make something more unique. Thank you for this video! My younger brother is still trying to find a way to get his hands on a 1/144th scale Mass Production Jegan D-Type (I believe colors are White and Red) for his next Grunt kit, but to no avail. I will definitely be sharing this video with him. Keep up the amazing work as always!
I think another good UC grunt is the HG GM Striker. It has a cool loadout consisting of a gun, spike shield with a functioning spike and its main selling point and probably my most favorite UC melee weapon, the Twin Beam Spear. You could pretty much make a diorama of GM Striker fighting Zeon MS on Earth
I live in the USA and it's hard to find a cheap Leo. Usually have to ship from overseas and ends up costing $15+ for one. It's a shame too, the Leo's are my favorite!
Late to the party, but try looking at Hobby Lobby stores, near the Star Wars model kits. If they have any gunpla, they tend to have the Leo, Gouf Custom, Jesta, RX78 Revive, Moon, and Char's Zaku II (Origins). They also have a 40% off one item coupon at all times, so I've gotten some leos for like 8 bucks each on different trips.
@@CokeIzGud I have tried! Was a nightmare. They had run out and changed the SKU to some silly SD's. Had to return em for a refund and no Leo ): Super bummed I cant find any at local stores!
I'd say that now the Gundvolva, Zowort, and Dilanza's can all join in being some of the coolest new grunts added in the lineup of army builders. The Gundvolva especially ranks high for me, given its simplicity in being a gundam shaped drone bit.
Idk why but the land man rodi from IBO is one of if not my favorite grunt suit. The color scheme is quite striking, the design is very unique and cool, and it kinda reminds me of a frog. It looks a little silly but still capable. A true grunt.
The Leo is the gruntiest grunt to ever grunt IMO. Got my Full Weapon set from someone of facebook at a bargain of 40 aussie dollars. Looking forward to making my Leo force. 😉
The graze is one I army build based on the designs and multitude of weapon option sets. But gms and zakus are always easy to army build just cause of all the variant kits over the years.
There are alot of cool army builders you left out like the genoace II, the maganac, the ginn, the M1 astray, the Gm/Gm, The zaku warrior, all cheap and fun to build.
I can agree that the Graze is a great kit, i've built all the retail iterations of it and could probably get all the P-Bandai versions but my box is full.
I love the Graze. Especially when I spray it with british camo green/black pattern and attach 2 enormous shoulder cannons and call it “Graze Artillery Support” xD
3 Hizack (2 Titan Green (1 converted for custom beam cannon-backpack), 1 E.F. Blue), 1 Zaku II, 1 Zaku Gunner Warrior (Lunamaria Hawke Custom), 1 vintage EWAC-Zack, 1 vintage Gouf Flight Test Type, 1 vintage Zssa, 1 Leo standard (I consider it the Zaku of AC era, fight me if you dare), 2 GM Cold District, 1 GM Sniper II, 2 GM Commander, 1 GM Commander Space, 2 GM Custom. Rounding this off is a 1/2400 Gwazine and 1/1200 Musai, with base jabbers, a mega ride launcher, and a Gyan equipment pack from GBF, Valuable Pod.
I'm a simple Zombie... I love my GN-X iii! The power plant and more refined design from the original is awesome! Combine that with how easy it was for the Earth forces to mass-produce them, they are one suit that I would love to fly around in for a joy ride!
If you haven't tried it yet, you should look into the fan made table top game using 1/144 models. Only have played it by myself cause my friends who would play have moved all over the country but it's very fun.
My favourite Gunplas are always or almost always ground suits. I don't buid armys, sometimes a little diorama with a pair or two, but I don't knw why I love the looks and feels of them much more than the celestial being type suit. Tastes!
And here's me making plans to army build with Master Grade kits cos the GM Sniper 2 and the rest of the GM kits that are available in Master Grade are not only quite cheap but also super modable. Plus I have two Master Grade GMs already. Still though it's nice to see how people would do it with the HG kits.
I'm seriously considering doing an army build of Zakus and Leos in a vs match-up. But also with same scale modern military vehicles and infantry. I think a ZTZ-99 looks good supporting a Zaku.
Funnily enough, I just got a GM ground type last week, a day before GM Day (ジムの日, 6th April). I was honestly surprised by what it offered relative to the price.
An army of 1/100 ZGMF-1017 GINN and ZGMF-1000 and 1001 Zaku. 1/100 scale is easily to work with, as its compatible with plenty of 15mm scale miniatures designs.
GM Sniper II is my favorite GM and the GM is my favorite grunt mech, ever. I envy you so much for having the Lyddo Wolf version, I could not get that. I do have the White Dingo, as well. I also really like the GM/GM from Build Fighters and next month they will release a new GM with some missile pod add-ons. But it's the original GM just with modern HG technology so I had to buy it.
I wish they would make some table top rules for Gundam combat. I was thinking of modifying Imperial knight rules from 40k. Just imagine how cool a army of Gundams battling it out would be!!👍🤘
The HGGTO Zaku 1 is literally the best Zaku 1 you can buy. Price point, perfect for painting or straight building, great accessories. I've been praying for a MG 2.0 zaku 1, but it's not a unicorn or Grandaddy, so bandai doesnt care, otherwise we'd have 2.0 0083 kits by now.
Zaku 1 also has the older version like zaku 2, so I will say it's the OYW version. That technical issue aside, good job as always. I more prefer get only one or two grunts for each because I may lose my motivation of building them with better quality as well.
My favorite would be the Jegan Type D and it’s variants because they are 100% compatible with pretty much everything from Gundam Unicorn and the different variants have a respectable set of accessories ... but I am not army building even though I creating a couple unique ones with the first being a Beltochica’s Children replacement of the Jesta.
@Emperor Maoh Shin Chandelier Mirage that’s actually possible? I mean i noticed the design similarities in the arms but I didn’t think it was possible.
Late to reply to this but hey better late than never, I've begun army building recently and i have decided to go for a Coamic Era earth federation army, well it's more of a squad, i have a Dagger L as the commander unit (with Aile Striker equipped) and 3 Windams as wingmen

Demi Trainer, Zowort, Heindree, Dilanza and Beguir Pentes are also perfect for army build since HG G-Witch kits are more famous above else..
Have you not tried newtype or other sites? Sure you have to pay shipping but of you get more than one it ends up being pretty cheap.
0:38 THIS IS NO ZAKU BOY. NO ZAKU
for all of the goufs that got mixed up in this zaku pile
the gbn guard frame would be a nice army. they look like cops.
doven wolf is great, but i prefer d looks of the silverbullet.
Jegans are my go-to army building kit, but army building in a sense that im just getting every single variant of it out there
id say the gmgm or gbn guard frame. they beat all the mentioned kits in articulation and just like the graze they are compatible with most hg weapons
I'm glad you gave the Doven Wolf some love on your list, but do you know where I can pick up the kit for non-scalper prices?
The Leo is the gruntiest grunt to ever grunt IMO. Got my Full Weapon set from someone of facebook at a bargain of 40 aussie dollars. Looking forward to making my Leo force. 😉
The graze is one I army build based on the designs and multitude of weapon option sets. But gms and zakus are always easy to army build just cause of all the variant kits over the years.
GM II and III is also a good grunt suit. Pretty much straight forward grunt suit with customability at the nice price
There are alot of cool army builders you left out like the genoace II, the maganac, the ginn, the M1 astray, the Gm/Gm, The zaku warrior, all cheap and fun to build.
me: sees the video
also me: sees my wallet without anything
I can agree that the Graze is a great kit, i've built all the retail iterations of it and could probably get all the P-Bandai versions but my box is full.
I love the Graze. Especially when I spray it with british camo green/black pattern and attach 2 enormous shoulder cannons and call it “Graze Artillery Support” xD
Have you thought about doing a video on custom builds? I'm constantly blown away by some of the insane custom gunpla I've seen out there.
Only have played it by myself cause my friends who would play have moved all over the country but it's very fun.
so anyone here remembers the Hi-Mock from Build Fighters Try? those are excellent army builders too.
My favourite Gunplas are always or almost always ground suits. I don't buid armys, sometimes a little diorama with a pair or two, but I don't knw why I love the looks and feels of them much more than the celestial being type suit. Tastes!
I'm army building with the old 2005 hguc kits because I like the ascetics and proportions on them way more than the modern kits.
Gotta agree with the gm ground type, it’s a great kit.
My most wanted army once quality gunpla release:
5 Virgo's, Epyon, Merc and Vaye.
1/144 is also east to work with as it’s close to 10mm for wargaming. Also much cheaper.
I like the Stark Jegan, Nemo and Origin Zaku I enough to buy several of each.
I'm a big 00 fan, so when I though about which suit I'd army build with, all I could think about is the Flag and OverFlag flying in formation.
i have 3 HG leos built with 5 in my backlog. ima start collecting either ground GMs or Quels
I wish they would make some table top rules for Gundam combat. I was thinking of modifying Imperial knight rules from 40k. Just imagine how cool a army of Gundams battling it out would be!!👍🤘
Since Witch from Mercury is now exists, I recommend the Heindree, Dilanza and Zowort as an army build, too..
Ooh yes me too! I always love grunt suits!
graze army is cool, I have like dozen of graze myself, Strongly recommended.
id recommend the GM sniper 2 and the ground gundam over GMs and both the ground gundam and GM sniper 2 were mass produced
The Leo for $10 is an AMAZING value. It's just gut wrenching how the recolors are FOUR to FIVE TIMES THE PRICE. @_@>>>>
I like to put a 1/100 main suit with 1/144 grunts because the main suits are always portrayed larger than life it give me that feeling
Only down side to the windam is how rare they are. While they are actually less customized i might just get a few GM IIs to make into an army
Zaku 1 also has the older version like zaku 2, so I will say it's the OYW version.
That technical issue aside, good job as always. I more prefer get only one or two grunts for each because I may lose my motivation of building them with better quality as well.
My favorite would be the Jegan Type D and it’s variants because they are 100% compatible with pretty much everything from Gundam Unicorn and the different variants have a respectable set of accessories ... but I am not army building even though I creating a couple unique ones with the first being a Beltochica’s Children replacement of the Jesta.
needs more gm/gm mentions
This could he a fun side-project. Thanks.
I saw a picture from our fb group a guy who had tons of Windam XD i felt envious
I army built the HG Exia awhile back. Boy do I regret buying so many now that their joints are all worn out.
@Emperor Maoh Shin Chandelier Mirage that’s actually possible? I mean i noticed the design similarities in the arms but I didn’t think it was possible.
I've been working on army building the Gunbarrel Dagger, each with a different Striker Pack on it.
I need a Doven Wolf, hopefully ZZ, but can't find it anywhere from US sellers other than DABAN. How tf do u get yours?
Late to reply to this but hey better late than never, I've begun army building recently and i have decided to go for a Coamic Era earth federation army, well it's more of a squad, i have a Dagger L as the commander unit (with Aile Striker equipped) and 3 Windams as wingmen
Thanks been looking for a place to start at now I know it’s with the Leo’s.
