The IBO grunts are my fav, especially due to cost and the amount of customizations you can do with them without doing modifications. Graze, Shiden, Reginlaze, you name it - I want them all.
Just finished building Reginlaize and Reginlaize Julia. Kit looks good for display, but the building experience is not enjoyable. Some parts wont stay put unless it was glued (chest/back/calf armor). The gun and the hip-leg joint connector seams also needed generous amount of cementing/sanding.
@@First-Name_Last-Name IBO kits have that problem though it varies as to which part on which kit. Both Reginlazes are the worst but it also depends on how you built them. I literally just finished building the Windam an hour ago 😂 I've always loved the design, one of the few from Seed Destiny I actually like. I just wish I had a Doppelhorn or Multi Strike Windam
I'm sort of surprised the HGUC Zaku I didn't make this list in place of the HGTO version, given the high praise you gave it in your old reviews. Low price point, good articulation, good loadout (heat hawk, machine gun, bazooka, handheld spike shield, and sturmfaust), seems like a perfect army builder to me. I've personally been meaning to pick up a squad of them myself.
The GN-X units were, and still are, my favourite. Especially the GN-XIV commander type. I would love if Bandai made the Core Fighter variant. That would be perfect for a P-Bandai release
I live in the USA and it's hard to find a cheap Leo. Usually have to ship from overseas and ends up costing $15+ for one. It's a shame too, the Leo's are my favorite!
Late to the party, but try looking at Hobby Lobby stores, near the Star Wars model kits. If they have any gunpla, they tend to have the Leo, Gouf Custom, Jesta, RX78 Revive, Moon, and Char's Zaku II (Origins). They also have a 40% off one item coupon at all times, so I've gotten some leos for like 8 bucks each on different trips.

For more militaristic "grunts", there are the Helldiver from Patlabor, or the various models from Full Metal Panic, also if they are in 1/60 scale, they seems similar to the GMs or the LEOs, and could add a little variety to the troops.
Building my own squad of origin Zaku. Each gonna have own unique loadout and some slight kit bashing to fit with my lore for them. Driving me slightly insane to build the same kit 4 times but once they're done and painted up they're gonna be my pride and joy even over some of my MG and RG.
I recently got and built a Genoace and let me tell you, it goes together so easily and cleanly. Combine that with having incredible possibility and its a Gunpla I wish I had many, many more of. To be fair it doesn't have a lot of options, but I really enjoyed putting this kit together. On the other hand you've sold me on the Dovenwolf and will have to look for a kit next time I'm shopping for new kits. I've always loved the design.
I think another good UC grunt is the HG GM Striker. It has a cool loadout consisting of a gun, spike shield with a functioning spike and its main selling point and probably my most favorite UC melee weapon, the Twin Beam Spear. You could pretty much make a diorama of GM Striker fighting Zeon MS on Earth
I’m army building for Mobile Suit Skirmish, though I’m focusing more on a diverse range of units rather than a bunch of the same unit. The closest I’ve gotten with the latter is with the Maganac. I bought one standard unit plus one of each P-Bandai set, and I have enough leftover parts to make three or four more customized Maganacs depending on how many custom parts I use. I also have a North American MSIA Maganac Rasid Custom from back in the day which happens to be pretty much exactly the same scale as the kits, so that brings my total Maganac count up to four. It also helps that the Maganac was always one of my favorite grunts.
The Gelgoogs with Cannon gear was nice for me because I could, without modification, transplant parts around to make something more unique. I've got a Cannon with dual wrist rockets and akimbo beam rifles, and I have a Commander unit with two Bucklers and his default shield on his back. If I had parts from the ReGel, I'd be using his shoulder binders and maybe his backpack or a pack from the Marines or even the Jaeger for the real Full Armor Melee Gelgoog. I might get me a Doven at some point. Really growing on me.
Top 5 best kits to fight an entire army alone 1)- HGUC Rozen Zulu Episode 7 version 2)- HGUC Kampfer 3)- HGCE Force Impulse Gundam 4)- HGBD Gundam Seltsam 5)- Any of the 5 main HGAC Gundam (Shenlong coming soon)
My favorite is the Death Army. Cool Zaku-esc appearance G Gundam (FINALLY) Good articulation Several variations -Death Army -Death Beast -Death Air -Death Navy -Death Master -Death Dragon The only problem is that Bandai clearly needs to make more G Gundam kits. WHERE IS MY HGFC DEVIL GUNDAM BANDAI???? AND THE 4 EVIL KINGS (minus Master Gundam)
The Leo is the gruntiest grunt to ever grunt IMO. Got my Full Weapon set from someone of facebook at a bargain of 40 aussie dollars. Looking forward to making my Leo force. 😉
When you mentioned the Leo to army build, I see only one problem: are the blue and purple ones available as stand-alone kits? I only ask because having only one color army Leo isn't enough; it's best to have all 3.
Haha, that's exactly what I did.. I bought 4 Leos, the weapons set, and an RG Tallgeese to lead them. But I haven't decided what colour to paint them (or if I need to paint them at all). I'm not even a Wing fan, I just couldn't resist because they were so cheap (I think I paid $7.99 for each Leo.) But my actual complete army is made of Geara Zulus. They're fully painted, and I customised them with parts from other kits, like the Gouf Custom's Gatling Shield, missile pods from the Zaku F2, Claws and knives from the Zee Zulu, etc.
Here's my list of Army building kits, even if some of them are waiting to see if they get created as kits: - UC Zakus = Origin Zaku 2 Type C /C-5 - UC Zakus honorable mentions = Origin Zaku I + Zaku Half Cannon - UC GM = Origin GM, in Classic and Morrocco colors UC GM Honorable Mentions = Ground GM, Origin RGC-80 GM Cannon + Origin Guncannon Gundam Seed = HGCE Dagger L + "Revived" HGCE Mobile GINN Gundam Seed Honorable Mentions = Windam, Buster Dagger, "Revived" HGCE 105 Dagger, ZAKU Warrior + ZAKU Warrior with Gunner and Blaze Wizard packs. Everyone's thoughts???
My personal list for army building. UC Fedies: 1. GM Type C - (Fave GM grunt design) 2. GM Ground Type - (same as video) 3. GM - (so cheap how can I not) 4. GM II - (looks good with OG GM) 5. GM Sniper - (fave GM overall) UC Zeon: 1. Zaku II FZ - ( fave Zaku II design) 2. Zaku I - (bunch of weapons!) 3. Gelgoog - (commander unit) 4. Dom Tropen - (so many weapons!) 5. Gouf - (Fave Zeon unit overall) Seed / Destiny: 1. Murasame (tied) 1. Windam (tied)
My honorable mention goes to... HGUC Zaku I aka Old Zaku HG00 Tieren Series (Ground Type, Space Type, Space Commander Type) HG SEED Mobile GINN HGUC Gelgoog/Gelgoog Cannon HGUC GM (C'MON!!! It's only 700 yen)
3 Hizack (2 Titan Green (1 converted for custom beam cannon-backpack), 1 E.F. Blue), 1 Zaku II, 1 Zaku Gunner Warrior (Lunamaria Hawke Custom), 1 vintage EWAC-Zack, 1 vintage Gouf Flight Test Type, 1 vintage Zssa, 1 Leo standard (I consider it the Zaku of AC era, fight me if you dare), 2 GM Cold District, 1 GM Sniper II, 2 GM Commander, 1 GM Commander Space, 2 GM Custom. Rounding this off is a 1/2400 Gwazine and 1/1200 Musai, with base jabbers, a mega ride launcher, and a Gyan equipment pack from GBF, Valuable Pod.
Surprised there wasn't a mention of the Leo NPD in the Leo section, since, it's literally just the same as the Leo but with an extra torso, 3 extra heads and a bunch of alternate shoulder armour options. Also the GM GM from Build Fighters, is a great army builder too. My top 5 kits for army building would be: HGBD Leo NPD HGBF GM GM HGUC GM Sniper 2 (+Variants like the HGBF GM Sniper K9) FG Zaku II (I have like 4) HG Death Army
When I get done with the crossbones gundam with cloth done n the msg 08th team custom gouf I am gonna purplize the Leo I got from hobby lobby for like 9.99 wish they had the pack but a standard will do...NO FRIGGIN DOMS ANYWHERE
Hey Kakarot, I can't really argue your choices but I believe the new HG Dagger L kit is going leave all the other dagger kits behind, (especially once it gets some weapon options & Striker packs later this year), (I should be receiving my 2- Dagger L's from HLJ next week), so anyways, if mixed with the HG Windam, it could make a great army option. As well I think you can really improve the weapon load out options and functionality if you mix the HG Ground GM with the HG Ground Gundam, again they're both mass production Mobile Suits that come with a crazy amount of different weapons when mixed.
GM Sniper II is my favorite GM and the GM is my favorite grunt mech, ever. I envy you so much for having the Lyddo Wolf version, I could not get that. I do have the White Dingo, as well. I also really like the GM/GM from Build Fighters and next month they will release a new GM with some missile pod add-ons. But it's the original GM just with modern HG technology so I had to buy it.
I'd say that now the Gundvolva, Zowort, and Dilanza's can all join in being some of the coolest new grunts added in the lineup of army builders. The Gundvolva especially ranks high for me, given its simplicity in being a gundam shaped drone bit.
Here are some of my 'army' (I have just a squad with 2-4 models) Tieren (space & ground types) Ahead (w/Ahead smultron as commander option) Geara zulu (normal and guards types) Zee Zulu Ginn
No love for the Death Army from G Gundam? It's right there in the name! Personally, I'm waiting for a revive Z'Gok and Char's Z'Gok before I start army-building suits, maybe a Zogock or two. I am very fond of that suit; though I'd love some 3d-printed Val Varo style forearms for it as well.
Mine is the rgm Jegans from Gundam UC especially the ECOAS version with a dash of dc10 Loto. If specializing in hit and run tactics the Rezel variants due to their awesome load outs. And also the ever chad looking Geara Zulu and Doga to complete my planned diorama.
I love the Graze. Especially when I spray it with british camo green/black pattern and attach 2 enormous shoulder cannons and call it “Graze Artillery Support” xD
IBO kits are a great army builder, if only you can find them today in 2021 for a great price... theyre hard to find in stock, and the only choice sometimes is to go to ebay which sellers think theyre GOLD!!!! too bad, i wish bandai would reprint them.. id buy more...
I’m up to about 12 Leos atm, so I’m waiting for pretty much all the zodiac suits. As for HGUC I’ve army built GMs and guncannons, Zeon forces not so much since I’m a feddie boi. I also need to buy a heck of a lot more GM Quels gonna be using them as a elite titan anti-terrorism squadron the blood knights with gundam mk II parts & custom red and dark titans blue color scheme.
When is Bandai going to make a true Miniature war game? People want to buy what they are selling in large numbers already and add in the war game aspect they could sell even MORE product. Specially if they put it to an odd scale compared to their other kits. Like 1/200 or 1/250. They would be able to print even more money then ever before. Thank you for all the work you have done.
You dont need the Tallgeese, the Leo with shoulder cannons is typically seem as the commander unit, and then the Döven Wolf makes more sense price wise to be either the heavy hitting specialists within the army, or for higher ranking and more competant, experienced personnel among the army so typically there'd be like 1 in 10 of any given unit in said army. (The concept being that for every 10 man squadron, one would be a Döven Wolf that is either leading or anchoring the unit with its OP weaponry) Also, Kakarot, why no links to buy these mobile suits?
My favorite would be the Jegan Type D and it’s variants because they are 100% compatible with pretty much everything from Gundam Unicorn and the different variants have a respectable set of accessories ... but I am not army building even though I creating a couple unique ones with the first being a Beltochica’s Children replacement of the Jesta.
When the Rick Dias (black ver) comes out, would you consider adding it to the grunt list? It's a P-Bandai release so it's not as inexpensive, but it seems like it would be nice to have a squad or 3 of those teamed up with the Mk II, Hyaku Shki, or Zeta.
I guess I will count it as army building but I bought 1 GM Quel 2 years ago then that expanded to ordering another GM Quel and the Gundam TR-1 Hazel II. Oddly thought I’ve found with using panel liner on the hands of the HG Gm Quels they tend to just fall apart and break.
Late to reply to this but hey better late than never, I've begun army building recently and i have decided to go for a Coamic Era earth federation army, well it's more of a squad, i have a Dagger L as the commander unit (with Aile Striker equipped) and 3 Windams as wingmen

id say the gmgm or gbn guard frame. they beat all the mentioned kits in articulation and just like the graze they are compatible with most hg weapons
Building my own squad of origin Zaku. Each gonna have own unique loadout and some slight kit bashing to fit with my lore for them. Driving me slightly insane to build the same kit 4 times but once they're done and painted up they're gonna be my pride and joy even over some of my MG and RG.
if only i could find an hg gfaze that doesnt cost 50 bucks lol. I feel like there is a gunpla shortage and man its annoying.
Zaku 1 mg 2.0
Please Bandai
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease
I have four doven wolfs three gelgoog cannons and a bunch of zakus and three doms and a rick dom 2
Never expected to see the Doven Wolf on this list. However is is a great Gunpla!
I've always loved the design.
one of my favorite grunts is the gm/gm, I was blown away by its design and functionality
How about the hg loto and ball? Both of them come in two packs so you can buy a whole lot
Better pray for Gelgoog Vertex kit in the future then.
Quote Kakarot- EXPLODIUM
gelgoog army or nothing
so anyone here remembers the Hi-Mock from Build Fighters Try? those are excellent army builders too.
my brain says yes while my wallet begs for mercy
Can you please make a 1/60 scale video please
Top 5 best kits to fight an entire army alone
1)- HGUC Rozen Zulu Episode 7 version
2)- HGUC Kampfer
3)- HGCE Force Impulse Gundam
4)- HGBD Gundam Seltsam
5)- Any of the 5 main HGAC Gundam
(Shenlong coming soon)
My favorite is the Death Army.
Cool Zaku-esc appearance
G Gundam (FINALLY)
Good articulation
Several variations
-Death Army
-Death Beast
-Death Air
-Death Navy
-Death Master
-Death Dragon
The only problem is that Bandai clearly needs to make more G Gundam kits.
My top -
Zaku 2
Galbady B
Dijeh
Powered GM
Yeah another series, to me, the grunt cant isnt so good.
Haha, that's exactly what I did.. I bought 4 Leos, the weapons set, and an RG Tallgeese to lead them. But I haven't decided what colour to paint them (or if I need to paint them at all). I'm not even a Wing fan, I just couldn't resist because they were so cheap (I think I paid $7.99 for each Leo.)
But my actual complete army is made of Geara Zulus. They're fully painted, and I customised them with parts from other kits, like the Gouf Custom's Gatling Shield, missile pods from the Zaku F2, Claws and knives from the Zee Zulu, etc.
>Geirail
>not Shiden or Leginraze
WHY KARAKOT197 WHY, Shiden and Leginraze was peak of IBO line.
Patio shoulda covered the Zaku army.
Infantry, Anti ship, Sniper, Melee, Unarmed, Recon, Artillery, Amphibious..
Zaku did it all.
Here's my list of Army building kits, even if some of them are waiting to see if they get created as kits:
- UC Zakus = Origin Zaku 2 Type C /C-5
- UC Zakus honorable mentions = Origin Zaku I + Zaku Half Cannon
- UC GM = Origin GM, in Classic and Morrocco colors
UC GM Honorable Mentions = Ground GM, Origin RGC-80 GM Cannon + Origin Guncannon
Gundam Seed = HGCE Dagger L + "Revived" HGCE Mobile GINN
Gundam Seed Honorable Mentions = Windam, Buster Dagger, "Revived" HGCE 105 Dagger, ZAKU Warrior + ZAKU Warrior with Gunner and Blaze Wizard packs.
Everyone's thoughts???
Every MS grunt: Everything is customisable
Doven Wolf: What are you a Communist?
My personal list for army building.
UC Fedies:
1. GM Type C - (Fave GM grunt design)
2. GM Ground Type - (same as video)
3. GM - (so cheap how can I not)
4. GM II - (looks good with OG GM)
5. GM Sniper - (fave GM overall)
UC Zeon:
1. Zaku II FZ - ( fave Zaku II design)
2. Zaku I - (bunch of weapons!)
3. Gelgoog - (commander unit)
4. Dom Tropen - (so many weapons!)
5. Gouf - (Fave Zeon unit overall)
Seed / Destiny:
1. Murasame (tied)
1. Windam (tied)
My honorable mention goes to...
HGUC Zaku I aka Old Zaku
HG00 Tieren Series (Ground Type, Space Type, Space Commander Type)
HG SEED Mobile GINN
HGUC Gelgoog/Gelgoog Cannon
HGUC GM (C'MON!!!
GM ground type was my absolute favorite MS for the longest time
Surprised there wasn't a mention of the Leo NPD in the Leo section, since, it's literally just the same as the Leo but with an extra torso, 3 extra heads and a bunch of alternate shoulder armour options.
Also the GM GM from Build Fighters, is a great army builder too.
My top 5 kits for army building would be:
HGBD Leo NPD
HGBF GM GM
HGUC GM Sniper 2 (+Variants like the HGBF GM Sniper K9)
FG Zaku II (I have like 4)
HG Death Army
I wish bandai made an entry grade zaku, so we can get it cheaper
Or re-release char zaku II revive as normal zaku soon
GM Sniper II is my favorite GM and the GM is my favorite grunt mech, ever.
I envy you so much for having the Lyddo Wolf version, I could not get that. I do have the White Dingo, as well.
I also really like the GM/GM from Build Fighters and next month they will release a new GM with some missile pod add-ons. But it's the original GM just with modern HG technology so I had to buy it.
*Five months later*
I kind of wish I'd brought one because damn everyone's left on pre-order.
I'd say that now the Gundvolva, Zowort, and Dilanza's can all join in being some of the coolest new grunts added in the lineup of army builders.
The Gundvolva especially ranks high for me, given its simplicity in being a gundam shaped drone bit.
The Leo for $10 is an AMAZING value. It's just gut wrenching how the recolors are FOUR to FIVE TIMES THE PRICE. @_@>>>>
Here are some of my 'army' (I have just a squad with 2-4 models)
Tieren (space & ground types)
Ahead (w/Ahead smultron as commander option)
Geara zulu (normal and guards types)
Zee Zulu
Ginn
Doven Wolf is my favorite. I owning HG Unicorn ver. HG the Origin Zaku 2 C5 type is the best HG choice.
I guess I am technically Army Building Core Gundams lol. I have almost all of the Core Gundams and their Planet Armor sets. Missing just 1.
Since Witch from Mercury is now exists, I recommend the Heindree, Dilanza and Zowort as an army build, too..
Oddly thought I’ve found with using panel liner on the hands of the HG Gm Quels they tend to just fall apart and break.
the only issues I have with the origin kits is that the joints get worn out really quickly. If that wasn't the case then I would have legions of them.
Late to reply to this but hey better late than never, I've begun army building recently and i have decided to go for a Coamic Era earth federation army, well it's more of a squad, i have a Dagger L as the commander unit (with Aile Striker equipped) and 3 Windams as wingmen
