I think the Zaku 1 is rising in popularity lately, thanks to the spotlight of a certain sniper custom in Unicorn. To be able to wound a Jesta is a great feat. Then come the thunderbolt zaku 1 and ofc, origin. A deserved win for the OG grunt, i'd say.
The one in Unicorn is really loved for being so heroic. It's actually like every time a Zaku I appears in an animation, it becomes something quite special
I love how you pointed out those improved articulations which most of us back then appreciated (comparing to the older wing and g gundam kits. I know, I'm too old for this. 🤣) Thank you for this video. And more power to you sir! 💯🔥
Really appreciate the point you make about the simplicity of the early HGUCs being a selling point. As someone who can't help but add custom detail to all of my builds, these simpler kits are a great canvas to do what I want without having to work around complex engineering or molded in details.
Yeah, with all the panels pre-made and sometimes even split apart like on RG kits and Gundam the Origin kits, they can crowd out a lot of personal customizations:)
Correction: The front skirts can be separated. The point of that little tab in the middle is so you can split the peg down the middle and still have some material to keep the skirt from falling out. 2006 was also when the HGUC Powered GM was released. That kit was also remarkably ahead of its time with doubled jointed elbows and separable front skirts. Its D plate forms the basis for many GM variants, and who can argue with joints like that?
Yeah those funky fins on the bar can keep things in place. The EG RX-78 went back to that design for some reason. I usually don't mention that since the later ball types are more explicitly designed to let people split it. Thanks for pointing it out though!
@@HobbyClubhouse I wish they did that on the back skirts of the HG Gundam AGE units and their derivatives. It’s already really nice that the back skirts on those guys move at all, but it would’ve been killer if you could separate them like on the GM Cannon 2.
I have this kit...bought it around 2008ish, fell in love with it. And yes...back then i was amazed at the articulation on it, still am...it has an "old" crappy paint job i did on it from back then...so im thinking of removing that old paint and bringing this kit back to life.
It was fun building the Sniper Type of this kit recently, then watching this review and realizing that it didn't actually get upgraded that much from the original form, it didn't need it!: Just like the Zaku I in canon, you can't ignore this one just because it's old!
Just starting to look at model kits and I decided to get this one to start with. Honestly I don't see anything goofy or 'uncool' about the Zaku I at all. As a fan of Battletech and old Macross I love simple, utilitarian, highly militaristic designs and most Zeon MS have that in spades compared to the more 'samurai' or 'traditional giant robot' designs found in the federation, specifically in its gundams. I'm personally a huge fan of the Zaku 1 and I think it looks pretty cool because it just looks so rugged and built for combat. I think if I end up enjoying building model kits im probably gonna go for the Zaku 1 Sniper kit next, as its probably my favorite MS design ive seen so far.
Go for it, built the sniper type and fell even more in love with this mobile suit. Picked up the black tri star zaku 1 as a treat and this mold looks absolutley beautiful in black. Still hoping for a Topp Custom Zaku 1 HG from MS 08 team.
I really don't wanna ask something of you, but! If it's possible, do you think it's possible to do a review of the HGUC Zock? It's a kit that doesn't really have that much modern coverage which is a shame. It's such a weird but fun model kit along with it's odd inner frame details and mono eye.
Dude, I was literally thinking about the Zock moments ago! I was wondering why it hasn't been reprinted in a while. I want to do the whole Zeon Swim Team, so it's definetly something I want to do:)
Just discovered your channel, other reviewers would've brushed this kit aside as too old school. Thank you for bringing into light all the awesome features and accessories and what it can bring for modern Zeon kits!
it really surprises me how this og kit still holds the bar against some of the newer releases and a great army builder, but still if you want the definitive version of the zaku 1 go for the "the origin" line of kits
One of my favs ever since I saw the episode in the original series! Never seem to be able to find it in stock, though it’s definitely one I want to pick up one day.
They were pretty quickly sold out when I got this one a while ago, which I didn't expect for a Zaku I. Hope you'll find one of these gems for yourself soon:)
As far as the design, I genuinely prefer the Zaku I over the Zaku II. I think it’s the lack of the pipes on the legs that stands out to me and makes it look better. The Origin HG Zaku I kit is one of my top favorites.
I definitely like the Zaku I more in terms of design. If I didn't know anything about Gundam, I would have assumed the Zaku I is the II and the Zaku II is I because how sleek and streamlined the Zaku I is.
Fantastic review. I haven't liked the Zaku I's design but seeing this review makes me want the kit. It does look really cool and like a lot of care was put into the engineering. I also like the look of this a lot more than the Origin kit.
The designers really had a lot of freedom with this kit, and it turned out very different from most other kits of the time, which makes it really charming
Appreciate the respect you gave to my favorite underdog Ms at the beginning I've given up on a 2.0 and got a resin conversion but now I'm trying to get this one and the Black tri Stars version of hguc
A totally underrated kit indeed. I might pick one up along with a Origin version so I can have the best of both worlds. Another good review. Today's a good day.
The Origin one with the proper blue and green colors is pretty nice. A Zaku I really should have that color (even though I totally didn't follow that rule myself...)
I prefer these older HG Zakus over the origin versions. I feel they are more sturdy. These are great for customs. Less is more sometimes. I love that they included a peg hole and that shield is awesome. Great review.
You're very welcome:) I've only had a few AoZ kits, but some of them I've been really curious about, like the Hrairoo and the recent Barzam. Wish they weren't all P-Bandai now and I could get the new ones easier
@@HobbyClubhouse Yeahj, the hrairoo is one i want too, but the rest are p-bandai which is basically tripled in price for people in the uk due to scalpers.
I wonder if the zaku 1's torso is compatible with the revive zaku 2 legs. Because i was thinking about this combination since i joined this hobby, i have a spare zaku 2 char aznable ver revive kit and i wonder if i can improve the zaku 1 further by combining both.
glad I am not the only one who thinks the origin Zaku 1's head is a bit to small. I still like both but you really cant pass on the Older Zaku 1 you get so much bang for your buck with all the extra weapons
The lack of popularity a lot of the grunt suits have is due to those grunt mobile suits lacking a “face” or major character to tie them to. The Gouf (pronounced “Guff”) has Ramba Ral, the Gyan has M’Queve, the Zaku II has too many to list, the Dom has the Black Tri Stars, the Gelgoog has Char…
It's especially valuable when they come as these standard type of hands too, but they really are rare so you never have enough to donate to other builds
Correction:
The larger pink sticker is for the Zaku Machinegun's scope and not the eye - whoops... Thanks to
Peweskimooxy for pointing this out!

I love the Zaku I. Its so simple yet so appealing for some reason. Theres just something about that slick form that draws me in
It's like a blank canvas for you to explore what to add to it (like how lots of people love adding the Gouf shield and heat sword to it)
it's so underrated for bein THE FIRS Mobile Suit, yeah there were Mobile Workers before it like the Catl, but it's still the first Mobile Suit lmao

Great review, I bought this kit today with the idea in mind of turning it into Topp's Zaku from 08th MS team
With all of these old kits you rewive it realy makes me wonder just what your full collection looks like. Great vid btw

Didn't change my mind.
I love the 2006 Zaku I. Amazing review
So you already knew how great the kit was:) it's strange how they didn't make an upgraded Zaku II out of this
I would half argue that the Zaku II was the base for the Zaku I for some reason as many of the engineering seems like it was upgraded from the Zaku II
My second gundam build and it sure was fun! Love this lil dude!
Your reviews are amazing and resonate with me quite a bit due to your love and appreciation for overlooked Gunpla kits.
ordered a Black Tri Stars version of this kit because of your review. Excellent job as always!
Super awesome!

I honestly don't mind the scalp, I think it adds a bit of character and makes the head less dull.
It also happens to make it easier to remove, even though it probably wasn't intentional
@@HobbyClubhouse See?
Always a silver lining. XD
You can always put a dab of super glue where it connects too. (let it dry though)

I mean they made the Zaku I really badass with the Sniper Type.
And a Zaku I Commander destroyed the RX-78-6 Mudrock Gundam!
Finally! I love this hg so much, it's so incredible for 800¥, great review!
The MS itself is great and you get a crazy amount of stuff, it's unreal how good it is
I love the Zaku I. That basic design just really does it for me
Thanks for covering this kit!
I will definately want it now.
I also have 1 request: Advance of Zeta kits.
I think you will think highly of them.

Excellent review! :)
Thank you and welcome to the channel! Despite the Origin kit being real great, this kit remains great as ever:)
The little zaku that could
This one's really good at coulding
Im leaving this comment to help you in the yt algorithm. Keep this up!! Love your review style.

The fact we have a still really good Zaku I kit I am super surprised bandai has not done Garret Shmitzer’s Midnight Fenrir Zaku I
Ah damn it doesn't have a thigh swivel. What a shame
Really good classic HGUC.
It really is lovely gem
I miss having this kit. There's something about it!
Also, one of the pink stickers is for the machine gun
Oh hey, you're right... I totally missed that and thought it was just a bigger eye...

PS: it helped that I already really like the zaku I design :)
The kit tries so hard to be great, it's hard not to love it:)
I can't post the link but a old msv book had the shoulder gimmick
Hm, is that so? I'll look through what I have and see as well
My god, you're right! I found the pic!
Mine cannot hold the shield, heathawk and the panzerfaust tightly. Idk why
Nice video! I have a suggestion for your next video. Can you do a review on the real touch Gundam markers?
They've been back in stock recently, so I'll certainly think about it:)
I really wonder why Bandai doesn't make left trigger hands for all High Grades or at least the grunt suits.
It's especially valuable when they come as these standard type of hands too, but they really are rare so you never have enough to donate to other builds
With this many weapons, it would be worth the price
Even more so when so much of the arsenal is unique to the kit
I need that gas launcher for my zaku 1
I know, right? Bandai was sneaky and never told people what that weapon was in that pack

this but in mg 2.0

Zaku 1 is awesome I want this version my zaku 1 ace custom is made from a zaku 1 the origin
They re-release this version of the Zaku I quite often, but they also sell out really quickly too :')

Ironic how this is leagues better than the hg zaku II
And also odd how no later Zakus reuse its engineering

Not sure how you think this model is goufy. It doesn't resemble the Gouf any more than any of the other Zakus.

When you got into Gundam too much that you think the word "goofy" means "goufy"
It’s pronounced “Guff”
Jokes on you I think the zaku 1s goofy AND cool. (;
He's got a charm that makes people specifically want him in their collections:)
cool
