    Description:
    In this video I am presenting my new and first table saw the Makita 2704. I was looking for a table saw for building furnitures, which implies a high precision for the saw. First, I had some doubts if the Makita 2704 would meet my requirements, especially considering its price of about 780€ and some average reviews I have read.
    As far as I can tell I am pretty satisfied with it.
    I am looking forward to present the Makita 2704 in my future woodworking projects.
    Hope you like it :-)
    I would be pretty happy for any comments or a thums up :-)

    Hi, I have a question for you, I have this table saw and I have built also the cross cut sled. The problem is that when I turn the saw on, the blade moves a little bit to the side (like a vibration with every start, like a wobble) and it always cuts into sleds groove for the cut and it destroys it (if I turn the saw when the sled is on it). Do you have the same problem or does your saw start smoothly? I am thinking of having it replaced because of this. I hope I am clear. Thank you very much for your answer.

      Hi, the saw has kind of a rough starting sound when it gets switched on. I've been asked this for many times from many people. Also it seems to be normal behavior that the blade wobbles a bit when starting from zero rpm. For myself I can live with that pretty well since the saw produces great results. I am not sure if I got you right, but if the blade cuts a bit into the side of the groove of your self made sled (the groove where the blade runs), this should not be a problem since this doesn't affect accuracy of your sled or anything else of the cutting process. Hope I could help a bit, feel free to ask again if I didn't get you right. Cheers

    Excellent review, thank you. I was looking at the MTL100 and as another has said, this fence looks much better.
    Brave man drilling and screwing on the shiny new saw bed, I did grimace hoping that you didn't go too far and put holes in it!
    Anyways... I want a 2704 now if it is accurate, so i'll go and see if I can play on a demo. Thanks again

    • @sharenicethings
      @sharenicethings  7 років тому +1

      Really appreciate your comment thanks. The saw bed is doing well ;). As I mentioned in another comment, the accuracy depends on how you adjust your fence. You have to adjust it before you use it for the first time. The manual tells how to do this. Hope you will be happy with your future table saw.

    Nice video Use the 5 cut method to set the fence properly.

  • @LoveZick
    @LoveZick 7 років тому

    Hey, good video. Though it's sad to see the same play in the cross cut rail/guide; especially when this saw costs the equivalent of 1440 USD here in Peru, whereas the almost equally equipped MLT100 costs 510 USD, which in my opinion is a reasonable price for what's the table saw. I think the 2704 is really way overpriced. I believe the BOSCH GTS 10 is equal to this Makita 2704 considering its price (less than half of it). And the BOSCH GTS 10 XC could have been a better choice.
    In fewer words, the 2704 is like a MLT100 with less things to fix out of the box. It's a really disappointing thing to have to fix several flaws out of the box. I think I'm buying the MLT100 anyway, but I'll inspect it for flaws before leaving the store. This 2704 couldn't compensate its ridiculous price. It's the MLT100 or I think I'm ok with my current Stanley STST1825, which after fixing its few flaws its very reliable, for a fraction of the price of one Makita with flaws to fix out of the box too.

      I am sticking to this saw, I built several furniture Where you need good accuracy without any problems. I can’t complain about this saw at all. You need to be aware that you need to build your own crosscut sled since the original is very sloppy, but thats not a big deal, and technically this is for me the only downside. I am planning on doing an update video for the 2704, so let me know in the comments in which details your are interested the most to get those covered. Cheers

    You do have to spend some time setting the saw up... blade, fence, etc. But once done, the saw is great. Fairly compact which is Nice ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxXh-4_3-ZT1fFWP91ZV7iVqzElr0lEb-a I did get an Incra Miter Gauge which takes some setup as well. The stock miter gauge can be adjusted in the miter slot with a little painter's tape... this tightens up the side to side play a lot.

    good video. what you think about the bench? there is loadz of bad reviews about this saws being Makita fan really difficult it is for me to read those one but the numbers speaks volume, like you've said in your video the cross cut guide got bit of a play and ive noticed the extensions of the bench wobble a bit.

    • @sharenicethings
      @sharenicethings  7 років тому +1

      I have used the saw for a few weeks now. I have no problems with the bench at all. The right extension where the rip fence is running is tight as hell, without any wobbelings and the fence stays always super parallel. I think in my video I forgot to fix it.
      The rip fence in my opinion is one of the most important things for a saw. This fence is adjustable in several ways to get it perfectly parallel to the blade. I am not sure if people read the manual before they do a review about this saw...
      The extension behind the table is a bit slaggy but perfect for its usecase. Its use is to avoid boards falling off the table and it does a great job for it.
      Yes the cross cut fence for me is the only draw-back for this saw. Its useless. But for me I am working with 90 or 45 degree angles so I can cover these use cases by my own sledges and it works great. I also am excited about the 24 teeth blade. It does a great job even for bevel cuts.
      The dust extraction of this saw is in need of improvement. I have made a few simple modifications and it works great.
      I think I will make a video about the details and the dust extraction for this saw.
      Please feel free to ask any questions about this saw, I ll try to answer it.
      Greetings

    • @sharenicethings
      @sharenicethings  7 років тому

      Hi Joe, I never had any problems with this saw. As I mentioned the crosscut sled is not very useful for accurate cuts but you can easily build your own as shown in the vid. The dust extraction could be better but this heavily depends on your vac. I also did a video how I dramatically improved the dust extraction by a second dust collection port. I can tell I am totally satisfied with this saw also regarding accuracy. Sometimes it would be helpful to have a wider table st the left side of the blade and I will build one and do a video about it. Sadly I am very busy these days.

      I would judge this saw to be very precise because it has an excellent rip fence. The supplied cross-stop is not very accurate in my opinion, so I built one myself.
      I use this circular saw to build solid wood furniture where high precision is required and I am completely satisfied.

    Can this table saw use dado blades? In the uk?

    • @unklejon4690
      @unklejon4690 4 роки тому

      No. All U.K. table saws are supposed to have a shorter arbor to preclude use of dado blades. I have had one of these for along time and still find it a cool tool

      Best value for price table saw you can get. Just my opinion. If you do not care about the crosscut sled as mentioned in the video (build your own one), go for it. Awesome adjustable fence which is key for any table saw. Great dust collection if you attach a second dust port on top of the blade guard (watch my other video about it). Also super portable saw. Cheers Daniel

    Are your 45 degree cuts accurate?

    • @sharenicethings
      @sharenicethings  7 років тому +1

      If you are speaking of bevel cuts:
      I always use my digital bevel box like this one: www.amazon.com/Digital-Bevel-Gauge-Angle-Protractor/dp/B00M9ZHSPE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1495792272&sr=8-1&keywords=bevel+box
      If you are speaking on miter cuts:
      the supplied miter gauge has to much play to get used seriously. Maybe you build one easily by yourself
      If you are speaking of the cut quality at angle of the delivered blade:
      I am totally satisfied. The supplied blade delivers top quality at any angle.
      Hope this helps. Feel free to ask any question :)

    Which saw is better Mlt 100 or this one

    • @kamhaq
      @kamhaq 5 років тому +2

      stay away from MLT100 piece of junk, the concept is good in this saw but, with Chinese built turn into shity saw/ Stuff need to upgrade/replace:, fence, insert, mitre gauge, the sliding extension, dust collection on top of that the wear down on the aluminium thread which raises the blade. mine blad just went down one day got to insert copper bushing with the stupid double thread
