We live on a lake in upstate New York that used to freeze over completely. By 2018, the maximum ice coverage had dwindled to around 10% and we had toxic algae blooms in the summer for the first time ever. Last winter, a La Nina year (which means colder winters in the Northeast) there was 0% maximum ice coverage for the first time ever. This year of course there's 0% ice again. Toxic algae blooms have happened every year since 2018 and get bigger and more widespread each year because the water keeps getting warmer and warmer.

I hate to say it, but John; you’ve done me wrong. Some time ago you mentioned your love of dried pineapple. Great views of Superior in the winter. As to your comments about how mild it is remember, that Climate Alarmists have short memories. The winter of 2013/2014 was extremely cold with lots of snow. All of the great lakes were completely frozen over even lake Superior (80 %) this subsequently resulted in the water level to rise over 4 feet.
I watch a lot of these channels with similar content and all the UA-camrs that live up in the northern states, Canada, and Alaska are all saying the same thing, how mild this winter has been. But us Californians are having the wettest, coldest, and longest winter we've had in a long time 😂. I'm watching these guys from Canada and Alaska camping in -20° and my brain can't even comprehend that cold 🥶. I'm thinking damn that's mild to you guys, I would never make it up there. My hat 🤠 is off to all you artic dwellers!
I'll say this about weather. An extreme rainstorm knocked off all the buds of a tree across from my place during last spring. Come Summer it had less than a quarter of its leaves. The other trees were lucky due to their guarded position. What happens when these storms happen to hit where all the food grows? What if crop yields dropped by 75%? Most food comes from 2,000 miles away. More than half the world lives in cities. Cities are not self efficient. They could be. They could grow their own food. Dump out a building or two and practice vertical farming. I'm guessing the idea of a shelf has been around for a good quarter of a million years; I would even guess that critters were putting things on top of other things even before humans did. Food could still be grown on farms they way they are taking up one large one level platform, but it also could be grown on the countless levels of a high rise building. People are not ready to talk about food. They are removed from it. They go to the restaurants and the grocery stores. Food is an after thought. In my country close to 400 BILLION bucks in food is wasted while 40 MILLION people are food insecure. People are not ready to talk about food; not the amount of gasoline it takes to transport it, grow it, manage it, manage that managing of it, nor the waste of it. What happens when our soil starts sucking; what happens when weather conditions disrupts multiple food sources within a season? We could mange our farming techniques with greenhouse and even multistory greenhouses. We consume at such a high rate with an ever growing population (only 2 billion people at the start of the 20th century and consider their consumption patterns compared to ours). Growth or consumption is fine and dandy, but responsibility should tell us when enough is way way way too much. There are solutions. There is even money. People would rather though talk about their local sports team, hollywood, and whatever f%cking else.
I live in Eastern Europe and we also have very high temperatures. There were years when the end of February we had like -20 deg, all the little lakes and ponds were frozen. Now its +10-15, thats totally not normal. Not to mention 20 years ago winter started on december and ended up in march, now we have 2-3 weeks of freezing and thats it.
Blue green water laps Crackling ice shards rim the shore A canoe glides past My attempt at Haiku. 🙂Enjoyed the video! I think we will be paddling early this year here in the Adirondacks.
Watched your Nipigon The Sixth Great Lake story last night and now this. Your work is compelling and stunning. We camped the eastern shore of Superior - the sound of Superior I will never forget - exciting and deafening - the dull roar you described. I love all the other sounds you include in your stories. And your description of smells is a way for us to be present. Thank you.
One of my local news stations said 2015 was a stronger El Nino than this one. If that's true, I find this weather trend disturbing. Never seen anything like it in my Northern Minnesota lifetime. We have downpour rain events every winter now and overnight lows have been steadily trending higher. Even in the "normal" winters like last year. Was never a thing for me growing up. Clearly more at play than just natural cycles.
hey man, long time viewer and subscriber from Louisiana, an avid outdoorsman. I get to nature whenever I can, but I have never seen the Northern Lights and I just turned 40 so I told myself I would go. Any pointers on when and where?

Climate change is good for late winter canoe trips and eventually mid winter canoe trips and eventually....
Wow. Every part of this video was just breathtaking. Thanks for sharing and always being on the safe side❤️
Blue green water laps
Crackling ice shards rim the shore
A canoe glides past
My attempt at Haiku.
Thank you.
Awesome trip with some beautiful sights! Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
The weather is crazy, I am on Vancouver Island, the daffodils are coming out and the. Cherry trees are full bloom.
Clearly more at play than just natural cycles.
sometimes ya just have to get out there . A beautiful but cold little paddle and camp . Gday from OZ
hey man, long time viewer and subscriber from Louisiana, an avid outdoorsman. I get to nature whenever I can, but I have never seen the Northern Lights and I just turned 40 so I told myself I would go. Any pointers on when and where?
It was 80° f in my hometown when it’s usually just above freezing this time of year. Very weird year for sure. Gonna be a brutal bug summer I’m afraid
Beautiful video. And climate change is truly terrifying.
Crazy over here in Alberta as well. Friday was plus 10, grass on the ground everywhere...today we got a foot of snow and tomorrows temperature is -20
